When I opened my eyes, I found myself back at the hillside villa.
Awakening in my wolf form, I held Courteney tightly in my arms.
Seeing the tear stains on her face forced me to recall what had happened.
Seeing me wake up, she held me tightly, kissing me repeatedly as tears fell.
"Has Melissa gone home?" I asked, scanning the room but finding no trace of her. Courteney didn't even dare to meet my gaze.
"Where did she go?! Where is my wife?"
I shifted back to my human form, my tone growing urgent.
Courteney bit her lip, her expression filled with grievance.
"They suddenly attacked us. You were almost hurt, so she rushed in to protect you and was taken by them. We were going to save her, but we got caught up fighting the others. Melissa... she was taken by those people."
Her account of the events excluded the fact that she had pushed Melissa out in the first place.
I couldn't bear to imagine how monstrous my expression must have looked, how far my furious roar had echoed.
I pounded the ground in a near frenzy, my joints leaving cruel trails of blood.
What had brought us to endure such a painful life?
Why did I have to face the dreadful days of being separated from Melissa?
Tears streamed down my face, each drop landing on my hand, merging with the blood. I realized this time, I might truly lose her!
In the end, I had become just another bastard, abandoning my wife and children like all the other Alphas!
What had my alliance been doing at that time?
The Dark Alphas had stripped me of my land and money, demanding taxes each month, yet not a single one had shown up when it truly mattered. Perhaps they thought this/attack was just a coincidence, but weren't they gathered here. precisely to combat such/sudden threats?
Escaping the hillside villa, I returned to the home I shared with Melissa

Chapter 9: Realizing Her Departure
Inhaling her scent lingering in the room, I sank wearily onto the edge of the bed, my hands cradling my head as my fingers gripped my hair tightly.
I dared not open my eyes, mumbling to myself incessantly.
"How could I have been so foolish to make such a blunder! I shouldn't have attended the community banquet, allowing Aaron and Courteney to get too close. I should have had a more perfect life... and now I've destroyed it all with my own hands." Melissa was such a clever and gentle beauty.
Yet, in her presence, I had let her know that another woman was carrying my child.
I had repeatedly subjected her to pain; I was the root of all her suffering.
But Courteney's situation was also very sudden. If it weren't for the pack, perhaps I wouldn't have acted this way.
I was indeed the source of all of Melissa's anguish.
After waiting several days in our shared home, I received no news about Melissa.
Instead, it was Courteney who approached me with a notice from the mission office.
"The meadow wolf pack has no Luna, Mr. Kauffman. You should know this is problematic." Courteney's eyes were filled with hope. "No one can replace Melissa. I won't allow it."
Fate had already robbed us of our happy life; I wouldn't let it interfere with anything else
now.
"Melissa Helberg is gone for good! Even our alliance struggles against the Dark Alphas. No one in the pack will actively attack for her."
Surprised by my unwavering stance, Courteney scrutinized me.
"I am more valuable than she is. My father will help you."
Her words echoed in my ears, but I paid them no mind, feeling like a mere shell of a man.
The community seemed to be aware of the situation, treating me with respect, mistakenly believing I had voluntarily abandoned Melissa for the stronger Courteney, all for their sake!
"You are all wrong! Completely wrong! If it weren't for Melissa, it would be all of you who are dead now!"
I ran through the streets, shouting loudly in my frenzy.

Everyone speculated that there were unknown secrets behind the incident, but the important thing was that they were alive now.
Melissa was the true hero, the best Luna the pack had ever known.
Now they had no Luna because I refused to marry Courteney.
The Luna of the Meadow Wolf Clan-no one could replace Melissa, not even in a million.
years.
The Special Mission Office soon sent someone to summon me to a meeting, and Courteney took the initiative to follow me.
Her father insisted that I bring her along to participate.
The expressions of the Alphas present were grim; some had sacrificed their daughters, while others had sent their Lunas into servitude.
Atrias Elliotson, who had remained absent during the ambush, sat there unscathed.
"You bastard, how dare you show your face here?"
My anger nearly blinded me as I raised my fist and charged toward him.
"It seems he knows nothing except how to flirt with another man's wife," Swan remarked, resting his chin on one hand without a hint of intention to intervene.
I knew that this scoundrel had traded peace at the expense of a Luna and certainly didn't care about the life or death of others.
"It's because of people like you that those scum hiding in the North can act with such audacity. It's the reason Melissa was abducted!"
Veins bulged on my muscles, and I nearly overturned the conference table in front of me.
These people sat there with an air of self-importance, not a single one mourning the loss of their packs or Luna.
"No! Mr. Kauffman!"
Courteney desperately grabbed my arm.
"You can't solve anything like this. We are an alliance; we need to sit down and talk calmly." Suppressing my emotions, I cared little for what these people had to say.
I only wanted to scream obscenities at the smirking Atrias.
"Aren't you at fault at all? You were right there when they attacked Melissa!"
Atrias's gaze was particularly intriguing, as if he didn't care at all about my current frantic

state.
"I certainly knew all of this; it was just that at the time I still had..."
He was right; all I could think about was keeping Courteney and the child safe.
Blinded by the joy brought by the child, I hadn't even noticed the approach of the Dark. Alpha Legion.
"So, the reason Melissa ended up like this is because of you?"
Hearing him cruelly reveal the truth made me feel nauseous.
"I can only wonder how those who were taken are faring. I imagine the leader wouldn't appreciate secondhand sexual slaves."
Swan scrutinized Courteney standing beside me, his gaze eventually shifting back to me, clearly believing I was utterly hypocritical.
"I have lost everything."
I slumped in my chair, my mind filled with images of Melissa's smile..
"Come on, hasn't fate already delivered a new woman to your side?"
The other Alphas couldn't help but laugh; to them, my current actions seemed like a performance.
"As long as you accept this, a new Luna stands beside you.
Those present urged me to remain calm and to always prioritize the greater good.
"I believe we need to bring them all back."
Perhaps it sounded insane, but trying might lead to a glimmer of hope!
"Give
it up, Elliott! Right now, our priority is to minimize losses! Fate has already sent the right person to you, you know?"
Swan didn't want to waste any time, shouting directly at me.
"Don't say that word! It destroyed my life as it was! Fate makes me sick!"
I trembled as I spoke, completely forgetting Courteney's presence beside me.
"No offense intended, Mr. Kauffman."
Atrias raised his head, explaining earnestly.

"That guy is far more complicated than we thought. While you were attacked in the meadow area, things weren't any better on can't but the situation has already been set in motion, really take in what we're saying right now my end, so I'm stretched thin. I know y
and it won't get any worse."
This didn't resolve my problem at all. If I couldn't bring Melissa back, I was just a failed Alpha!
