Chapter 105 She Must Like Me
“Mrs. Adam!” Maggie rushed over, reaching out to support her without a second thought.
Mrs. Adam’s vision blurred, and her chest was pounding painfully. In the haze, she could only make out a young girl with a bright face and fair skin offering her assistance.
Before she could focus, consciousness slipped away entirely.
“Mrs. Adam! Mrs. Adam!”
Maggie was shocked by the sight. She knew Fiona was not well, but she had not anticipated it being this
serious.
“Doctor!
“Doctor!”
With tears in her eyes, Maggie held onto Fiona, preventing her from collapsing, and scanned the area, calling for help.
Just then, Ericko and Phillip returned from different directions. Ericko, spotting Maggie with Fiona, hesitated briefly before quickly moving to assist.
With no time for pleasantries, Maggie hurried to find a doctor while Phillip swiftly fetched a stretcher.
“Quick, to the operating room!”
A professor with white hair, evidently acquainted with Phillip, promptly organized the doctors to transport the patient.
In a flash, the operating room lights flicked on, and the doors sealed shut.
There was an ongoing commotion around them as they had not had a chance to use the larger upstairs operating room. The downstairs emergency room was bustling.
Yet amidst the chaos, Maggie felt a chill run down her spine among the crowd.
Standing several meters from the operating room, she was lost in thought as if the noisy surroundings were irrelevant
When did Fiona pass away in my precious life?
Maggie tried to recall. Fiona’s demise occurred about three years later, amid her ‘contributions.
The Adams‘ project encountered numerous setbacks and caused Phillip’s hair to whiten with stress, and Fiona’s health to decline. Ultimately, she could not endure when Phillip faced adversity.
This won’t happen again, right?
Observing her pallid complexion, Ericko seemed inclined to say something, but with Phillip nearby, he stopped himself.
Maggie’s eyes welled up with tears, and she addressed him tenderly, “Ericko.”

“It’ll be fine,” Ericko reassured her in a soothing tone, his gaze drifting to her hospital attire, which caused him to furrow his brows unconsciously. “Why are you here?”
Lost in thought, Maggie did not want to disclose the stomach ache from last night’s meal, so she simply.
remained silent.
“Let’s sit over there,” Ericko suggested gently, noticing her discomfort.
“But what about…“Maggie glanced toward the direction of the operating room anxiously.
that
“Dad will take care of it. Dr. Stone also oversees Mom’s treatment. He’s her attending physician so everything will be fine.” Ericko assured her gently, noting her complexion was nearly as pale as Fiona’s.
“Also, we’ll be quite close. We can get there in two minutes.”
With his reassurance, Maggie nodded, following Ericko absentmindedly as they made their way back to the lobby where she had encountered Fiona earlier.
“Why did Mom faint all of a sudden?” Maggie asked softly, her gaze shifting between Ericko and Phillip, sensing the gravity of the situation.
Ericko paused for a moment before answering slowly, “Mom’s heart isn’t in great shape, and her body is too frail for surgery, so the risks are high. We’ve mainly focused on conditioning over the years, but it hasn’t yielded much improvement.
“She felt unwell a few days ago, and this morning it worsened significantly. So, Dad and I decided to bring her to the hospital for a check–up and some medication,” Ericko explained gently, though his tone turned somber as he discussed Fiona’s condition.
Fiona had actually felt unwell the night before, but she did not want to be a nuisance and only mentioned it in the morning.
Phillip postponed his morning meeting, and Ericko canceled his plans to accompany her.
Upon their arrival at the hospital, Phillip went to fetch the medication while Ericko consulted Dr. Stone about Fiona’s health.
Unexpectedly, Fiona collapsed right then and there.
After hearing Ericko’s account, Maggie fell silent, her expression crestfallen.
She had not even had the chance to acknowledge her, let alone address her as Mom..
And at that moment, Nathael emerged from the bathroom. When he did not see Maggie anywhere, he grabbed his phone and noticed a message she had sent, “Your darling has gone to get breakfast. Be back
soon.
Nathael frowned, puzzled. He had actually asked Alex to fetch breakfast, but he did not anticipate Maggie waking up now.
Judging by the time, it had been almost half an hour.
Nathael dialed Maggie’s number, but she did not pick up.
So, he pursed his lips and his gaze darkened. After that, he changed into fresh clothes and headed

downstairs.
“Maggie, you look a bit off, Ericko remarked in a deep voice.
“I’m okay, Maggie replied softly. Physically, she felt fine. She woke up feeling refreshed and did not feel any pain. She was in great spirits.
She just could not shake off the worry about her mother.
At that moment, she felt adrift, uncertain if her actions were right or wrong.
Choosing not to reveal her identity to Fiona and Phillip to pursue revenge against the Camerons and uncover the truth–was it truly worth it?
However, if she ditched the Camerons, she would not be able to protect them. Yet, sticking with them meant she could not be with her family.
Would things really change in a few years?
Would her efforts even matter?
Lost in thought, Maggie felt Ericko’s hand reaching out to hold hers, a small comfort amidst her turmoil.
“Nana.”
Maggie’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, sensing warmth emanating from Ericko’s touch.
“Ericko,” she replied, meeting his gaze with red–rimmed eyes. She had so many things she wanted to tell him, but she did not know where to start.
At that moment, Maggie felt a pang of loneliness, knowing there were countless secrets and truths she could not reveal.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take you to visit Mom when she wakes up. She’ll be very fond of you,” Ericko reassured her. After that, he tousled her hair, draped his coat over her, and offered her gentle comfort.
Understanding his gesture, Maggie felt her eyes prickle with tears.
Yes, she could be there for her mother first, even if they did not immediately acknowledge each other. Just being by her side would be another falsehood to the Camerons.
“She must like me. I saved her after all: Maggie smiled weakly, a flicker of joy amidst the uncertainty.
Not only did it give her a reason to be around Fiona more often in the future, but also because Ericko just got her.
It was no surprise they were siblings; many things did not need to be said between them–her brother always got what she was thinking. It was comforting.
Once more, Maggie felt the strength of family ties. With that unshakeable bond and connection, it seemed that a simple smile or a few words were all it took to understand each other’s intentions.
When Nathael arrived downstairs, he witnessed this touching moment.
