Chasing My Ex-wife Back

Chapter 87

Chapter 87

Hailey stepped into her room and proceeded to the nightstand in search of her phone. It wasn’t there so she went ahead to search the bed, putting aside the pillows. She eventually found the device wrapped around her duvet. She

reached for it, unlocked it,

d it, and car

came face to face with tons of missed calls and a few text messages. Cole had called 18 times and texted 7 times. She saw Tyler’s call and text message too.

Hailey decided to return the head manager’s call first. She dialed his number and took slow steps around the room, waiting for him to answer her call. “Hi, Luis.”

“Good morning, Ma’am.”

“Good morning, How is it going over there?” Hailey asked, one hand kept the phone glued to her ear while She fiddled with the hem of her nightdress with the other hand.

“The press were here earlier today. A couple of them but the securities did a great job in handling them.”

“So far, there is no decrease in sales yet but we will monitor closely and give a report tomorrow. A few of our partners have also reached out to me to ask how we are fairing. But again, ENROL Incorporation has been trending all day on all socials.”

“No attacks against our products or the quality of the products we dish out to people. Just attacks on you that are tied to the company. Some nasty people feel the company should be canceled just

because it is owned by you.”

Hailey sighed deeply. “It is crazy that I built the company from scratch with so much effort, and then here am I, ruining all that I toiled for.”

“Please don’t say that, Ma’am. Things like this happen. Success comes with challenges like this. Some people can’t stand your success so they come up with all sorts to pull you down and when it happens, the public will always pick a side.”

“I guess this is your first time experiencing this with the company. But please don’t panic. Everyone here knows how hard you work and just so you know, your staff here will forever remain loyal to you.”

“The company is thriving so much that madam Vanessa had to use made–up lies to defame your hard work but we’ve got proof. Evidence of your start–up is with the company house so she has no case. And I really hope you sue her because she has to pay for the damages done.”

Hailey massaged her temple. “Yes, I just spoke to Ludacris.”

“That’s a good move, Ma’am. I also had a meeting with the PR team earlier today. We are all working hand in hand to fix the rumors. We’ve reached out to all the partners to let them know there was a misunderstanding.”

“That’s calm to hear. Thank you.”

“No need to mention, Ma’am, everything is under control. There is a partnership meeting tomorrow. Will you be available to attend? Or do you want it virtual? And we can always postpone it till when you feel you are up for it.”

“Yes, Please, Let’s have it next week.”

“No problem, Ma’am. Twill send out a memo, informing everyone of the new date.”

up.” Hailey said, then ended the call. She took slow steps towards her vanity area “Thank you. Please keep me updated if anything come and stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her hand instantly went to her flat belly. She slowly rubbed it in a circle as she made conversations in her head.

She wasn’t freaked out about getting pregnant again. It was just that she was scared of the change that was going to come with it. She had no idea if it was something she was physically and mentally ready for.

A knock came through Hailey’s door making her snap out of her thoughts. She took her hand away from her belly, shifting her eyes towards

the door. “Debbie?”

She got no answer but the door opened, revealing Cole with a food tray.

After successfully detaching himself from the kids, promising to come back to play with them after seeing Hailey, Cole made his way towards the counter. Debbie was done setting up the food tray.

“Her taste buds have been crazy since yesterday so I’m not sure if she would be fine with orange juice. Maybe coffee instead?” Cole said

politely.

Debbie shook her head, wondering how she was going to avoid the coffee talk. “She said she was craving orange juice so I made her some. Hopefully, she will be able to enjoy it.

“Okay. Thank you.”

“Would you like me to serve you something to eat?”

“No, it’s fine. My appetite is nowhere to be found right now.”

“Scared of what’s happening?”

“It’s already becoming something continuous. I fear that Hailey will eventually get tired and want nothing to do with me.”

A small smile crept to Debbie’s lips. “I don’t think so.”

“I try to tell myself that too but again I wouldn’t blame her if she does. I am very angry as to what is going on. I can only imagine how pissed

she was.”

“You don’t have to feel that way or think that way. All I know is that she needs you now more than ever. Just follow your heart and everything will be fine. I am rooting for you!”

“Thank you,” Cole mumbled, then reached for the tray of food on the counter. It contained pancakes, eggs, bread, bacon, and a glass of orange juice.

“Babe,” Cole mumbled the moment he helped himself in. With the tray resting in one hand, he carefully shut the door with the other hand.

Cole proceeded to the nightstand, placed the tray on the table, and then made his way over to the vanity area where Hailey stood.

“My love.” He pulled her in a hug and then placed a deep kiss on her forehead.

“I’m sorry,” Cole said, holding her left hand and staring deep into her eyes.

“For?” Hailey’s voice came out hoarse.

“You didn’t pick up my calls or reply to my text/messages, you didn’t hug me back and you would usually kiss me after we shared a hug. I was worried sick that is why I am here. I know you are mad at me because of what happened.”

“I wasn’t with my phone.”

Cole looked down at Hailey’s hand. She was holding her phone.

08:43 Mon, 8 Jul

Hailey sighed. I only just found it. I had to call the office first. To make sure everything is okay over there.

“You are mad at me. It’s okay to lash out at me.”

Cole was expecting Halley to shout at him, expressing her anger but his heart fell when he saw her burst into tears.

“Sweetheart,” Cole brought his hand to her face and instantly wiped the tears away with both his thumbs. But it seemed fruitless because the more she wiped, the more tears rolled down her cheeks.

“Please don’t cry, my love. Everything is going to be okay I promise.” Cole pulled Hailes into a hug, gently caressing her back as she cried her heart out against his shoulder. The duo stayed like that for a while until Hailey pulled away from the hug. Her eyes were red and her face

blotchy.

Cole remembered he had a handkerchief in his pocket. He took it out and wiped Hailey’s face. He intertwined his hand with hers and led her to the chair on the opposite side of her room and he made her seat.

Cole leaned close to Hailey, placed a deep kiss on her forehead, then knelt before her. He took her free hand and placed a kiss on the back of

her palm.

“It kills me to see you this way and knowing you are going through this heartbreak because of me makes me so mad at myself. I’m sorry that Vanessa pulled this nasty trick. I am sorry that your reputation and that of your company were damaged because of me. I don’t know how but I am ready to do everything in my power to make amends. I don’t mind putting out an interview clarifying that you are innocent in this and Vanessa is just a freak.”

“I contacted Jessica already and she is doing her best to make sure Vanessa doesn’t evade punishment for defaming you and misleading the public.”

“I was insanely worried that is why I am here. I’m so sorry I made you cry, baby. I’m going to fix this. Vanessa will be dealt with, I promise.” Cole released her hand, he brought his hand to her left cheek, and caressed it as he stared into her eyes. “I’m sorry. Please forgive me, baby.”

“This isn’t your fault. It is just depressing that we get attacked every time. I am not mad at you. I’m just really sad about everything.”

“I’m not happy about it either. And I was so scared that I lost you already. It’s been from one sickening episode to another because of a psycho who’s ridiculously jealous of us. I promise this is going to be the last time something like this is happening. I give you my word that I am going to protect you and the twins with my life.”

“I’ve got a social media account. I honestly can’t remember the password but I will probably retrieve it. I’ll respond to all of Vanessa’s allegations. I’ll make a video and post it. The world should know her evil deeds and the fact that she keeps ruining my moment with my family,”
