Alpha Kilian, who lounged on the couch throughout the night, awoke with a throbbing pain in his neck.
Just as he was about to twist his neck to alleviate the discomfort, a pair of hands materialized and began massaging his shoulders. Alpha Kilian froze in place for a moment before swiftly standing up.
Lara loomed behind him, offering a faint smile. “You’re awake?”
“Hey,” Alpha Kilian breathed a sigh of relief. “How’s your father?”
“He still hasn’t woken up,” Lara responded, disappointment etched on her face.
Alpha Kilian checked his watch and reassured her, “He’ll be fine, don’t worry.”
Lara nodded, a thought flitting across her mind. She gazed at Alpha Kilian for a moment before speaking up, “I bought breakfast. Care to join me?”
The ravenous Alpha Kilian nodded, realizing he hadn’t eaten since the previous night.
Lara set the breakfast on the table, watching Alpha Kilian intently as he began to eat. Her mind drifted to the news she had stumbled upon the night before. After hesitating for a moment, she finally gathered the courage to ask, “Alpha Kilian, I came across some news last night-”
Before she could finish her sentence, the doctor approached them. “I have the test results.”
While Lara remained in a daze, Alpha Kilian walked over to the doctor. “What are the results?”
A grin spread across the doctor’s face. “It’s not malignant, don’t worry.”
Lara felt a weight lift off her shoulders as she heard the doctor’s words. “Thank you, doctor. Thank you so much.”
“Since the tumor is non-malignant, we can easily remove it through a simple medical procedure. Let me know your decision so we can schedule a date for the procedure,” the doctor advised.
Alpha Kilian glanced at Lara before speaking, “What do you think?”
Lara nodded with determination. “Yes. Let’s do it.”
“Very well. We’ll arrange a date to remove the tumor then,” Alpha Kilian stated.
“I’ll take care of the necessary arrangements,” Lara responded.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. We’ll always be here for you, Alpha Morris,” the doctor affirmed before walking away.
Alpha Kilian turned to Lara and reassured her, “He’s a renowned neurosurgeon, don’t worry.”
Lara let out a sigh of relief. “Okay. I trust you, Alpha Kilian. And thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.”
Suddenly, Caroline emerged from the room, calling out, “Lara! Lara!”
“Yes, Mom?” Lara turned towards her mother.
“How’s your dad? How’s he doing?” Caroline inquired anxiously.
“Mom, Dad is fine. The doctor said the tumor is not malignant,” Lara answered.
Caroline perked up at the news. “Really?”
“Yes.” Lara nodded. “If you don’t believe me, you can ask Alpha Kilian.” Caroline then noticed Alpha Kilian standing beside Lara.
“Thanks to Alpha Kilian, we received the test results quickly. The doctor will arrange the procedure to remove the tumor. Dad is going to be fine,” Lara announced, a smile lighting up her face.
“Is that so, Alpha Morris?” Caroline directed her attention towards Alpha Kilian.
Alpha Kilian nodded. “Yes. The doctor in charge of your husband’s procedure is a renowned neurosurgeon, so you needn’t worry.”
Caroline finally smiled, her lips curling upwards. “That’s wonderful! Thank you so much, Alpha Morris. Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. I’ll do anything for Lara,” Alpha Kilian declared.
Lara froze momentarily, caught off guard by Alpha Kilian’s statement. She gazed at him, her eyes sparkling with a mix of surprise and admiration.
Caroline glanced at Lara before turning back to Alpha Kilian. “I’m relieved to know you’re with Lara.”
Alpha Kilian didn’t respond directly to Caroline’s comment.
“Alright, Mom. Alpha Kilian should go home and rest. He spent the night here yesterday. I’ll accompany you to visit Dad,” Lara asserted.
Caroline was taken aback by Lara’s decision. She looked at Alpha Kilian and advised, “You must be exhausted. Go back and get some rest, Alpha Kilian.”
“Alright.” Alpha Kilian nodded.
“Lara, you don’t need to accompany me. You should walk Alpha Kilian out. I can go see your father on my own.”
“It’s fine-” Lara began.
“Oh, no need to worry. She can show you out,” Caroline insisted, nudging Lara towards Alpha Kilian.
Lara understood her mother’s intentions and turned towards Alpha Kilian, saying, “Come on. I’ll walk you to the door.”
Alpha Kilian decided to accept Caroline’s kind gesture and exited the ward with Lara.
Caroline watched their retreating figures, relieved to see the two together.
In the hospital lobby, Lara gazed at Alpha Kilian, her voice filled with curiosity, “Are you heading home to rest or going straight back to the office?”
“I’ll go home and change before heading to the office,” he replied.
Lara pursed her lips. “Thank you for your help last night. I would have been lost if I were alone.”
“Stop thinking about it. Take care of your dad at the hospital, and don’t worry about work in the office,” Alpha Kilian advised.
Lara nodded.
“I should go now.” Alpha Kilian turned around and left.
Lara stood by the door, watching him walk away. Her stomach fluttered with anticipation. Alpha Kilian wouldn’t have done so much for me if he didn’t have feelings for me. He wouldn’t have made those sweet remarks either.
Taking a deep breath, Lara returned to the ward.
Meanwhile, Caroline, who sat next to Harry in the ward, noticed the smile gracing Lara’s face. “Someone seems very happy today.”
“Mom, stop it,” Lara chided as she walked over and sat beside Caroline.
“It’s written all over your face, honey.”
“I’m happy because Dad is out of danger,” Lara insisted.
“Come on. You’re my daughter. I know what’s going on in your mind,” Caroline teased.
Lara looked at her mother, feeling bashful. “I’m not sure.”
“Alpha Kilian is a capable man, Lara. Seize the opportunity, and you’ll have a comfortable life,” Caroline prodded.
“That’s not what I’m looking for in a man,” Lara muttered.
“Meaning Alpha Kilian possesses other admirable qualities? Even better!” Caroline exclaimed.
“But I don’t know how he truly feels about me.” Lara furrowed her brow, her tone tinged with dejection.
“He wouldn’t have spent the night here or done all these things for your dad if he didn’t care about you. Did you not hear what he said?” Caroline pointed out.
“Yes, I did. Sometimes, it feels that way, but…” Lara trailed off, struggling to put her thoughts into words. “But I sense that he treats Nelly differently. I can’t explain it, but my gut tells me she holds a special place in his heart.”
Caroline smiled knowingly. “Men can be fickle creatures, darling. Besides, Nelly is his ex-wife. It might not be easy for him to forget her completely, but it doesn’t matter because, in the end, the woman who stands by his side is the real winner,” Caroline concluded.
