Alpha Kilian, weary from his return from Baykeep, was bombarded by countless messages on his phone. But before he could even read them, a call came in from Lara.
“Alpha Kilian, I don’t know what happened to my father, but he suddenly passed out. My mother fainted too when she saw him. I don’t know what I’d do if something were to happen to them. What should I do?” Lara’s voice cracked with fear.
Alpha Kilian, aware that time was short as his phone battery dwindled, didn’t have the luxury of providing comfort. “Where are you now?”
“We’ve just reached Skyline Hospital.”
“I’ll be right over. My phone is going to be-” Alpha Kilian’s sentence was cut short as his phone screen went black.
“What’s wrong, Alpha Morris?” asked Fabian, who was in front of Alpha Kilian.
“Go straight to Skyline Hospital.”
Fabian nodded and steered the car in the right direction.
When they finally arrived, Alpha Kilian handed his phone to Fabian before getting out of the car. “Charge it for me.”
Meanwhile, Lara waited in the corridor, her solitary figure huddled with worry.
“What happened, Lara?” Alpha Kilian inquired as he approached her.
As soon as Lara spotted Alpha Kilian, she threw herself into his arms. “What do I do, Alpha Kilian? I’m so scared. The doctor said my father might have a malignant tumor. I don’t know what to do if something happens to him.”
Alpha Kilian gently removed Lara’s arms from him. “Just calm down and tell me everything slowly.”
Lara, tears streaming down her face, struggled to catch her breath. “I can’t calm down right now. I really don’t know what to do, Alpha Kilian. I just… What should I do?”
After a moment of contemplation, Alpha Kilian replied, “I’ve got it. You stay here and wait for me. I’m going to speak with the Director.”
Lara hesitated for a moment before ultimately deciding to trust Alpha Kilian, nodding in agreement.
Not long after Alpha Kilian went upstairs, he returned with the Director and the authoritative physicians.
Lara anxiously awaited by the door, her eyes locked on Alpha Kilian. He was her only beacon of hope in this dire situation.
“Don’t worry, Alpha Morris. I’ve already contacted the best oncologist. You’ll have the results by tomorrow at the latest,” assured the Director.
“Thank you, Director. I apologize for bothering you at this hour.”
“Nonsense, Alpha Morris. You can come to me whenever you need me. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way.”
“Thank you.”
Once the Director had left, Lara approached Alpha Kilian once again. “Alpha Kilian…”
“It’s okay. Your father’s condition has stabilized, but we won’t have the full diagnosis until tomorrow,” explained Alpha Kilian, his gaze fixated on her.
“Do you think he’ll be alright?” Lara looked back at Alpha Kilian, her eyes filled with desperation.
“Lara, let’s not dwell on that until we have the results,” advised Alpha Kilian.
Lara nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. “If it weren’t for you today…”
“You helped me when I needed it most. This is the least I can do.”
“Then, do you think you could stay with me tonight, Alpha Kilian? I’m terrified,” Lara asked, keeping her gaze locked on him. “You’re the only person I know here.”
Alpha Kilian furrowed his eyebrows slightly, but nodded nonetheless. “Don’t worry. I won’t leave until we have the results.”
Finally, a small smile graced Lara’s lips. “I appreciate that. Thank you, Alpha Kilian.”
“Now, let’s go see your father.”
With that, Lara nodded gladly, grateful for Alpha Kilian’s unwavering support.
As Harry’s condition stabilized, he was moved from the emergency room to the general ward.
Caroline, upon waking up, couldn’t stay conscious for long, as her emotional state overwhelmed her and she fainted once again.
Only after comforting Caroline did Lara return to Harry’s side.
Upon entering the room, Lara noticed Alpha Kilian peacefully sleeping on the couch.
She tiptoed over and watched him slumber, his furrowed eyebrows giving way to a softer, more approachable expression.
Pulling out her phone, Lara leaned in and took a picture of Alpha Kilian.
She uploaded the photo to Instagram, adding the caption: Thank you for being there for me when I needed you most. I’ll do the same for you.
Satisfied, Lara put her phone away and gently covered Alpha Kilian with a blanket.
Just then, her phone beeped, displaying a screenshot of a news article sent by her assistant.
Lara immediately recognized the person in the photo attached to the article.
She hurried outside to call her assistant. “Where did you get this?”
“It happened this afternoon, and by night it was all over the news. But the article quickly disappeared for some reason. This is just a screenshot,” the assistant explained.
Lara, confident in her assessment, muttered, “Nelly Jackson.” She continued, “Why do they say the car was a gift from Alpha Kilian?”
“We’re not sure. It’s just rumors. Nobody can prove Alpha Morris was involved,” the assistant replied.
“Could this photo be fake?”
“It’s been analyzed and confirmed to be real.”
Lara couldn’t even begin to describe her distress. “Understood.” She ended the call and continued to read the news article.
Despite her efforts, Lara found nothing substantiating Alpha Kilian’s alleged involvement. So why would they say it was a gift from him? Could this be Nelly’s doing?
After browsing through the sports car and Nelly’s story, Lara couldn’t help but feel that there was some truth to the rumors.
After taking some time to collect herself, Lara returned to the ward, her conflicted gaze falling upon Alpha Kilian, still sound asleep on the couch. What exactly are you thinking, Alpha Kilian? Who is it that you care about?
Meanwhile, Alpha King Larry made a phone call to the press, frustrated by the disappearance of the big scoop he had given them. “Why did it vanish so quickly?”
“We don’t know, Old Alpha Morris. Our articles keep getting taken down, no matter how many times we upload them!”
“How is that even possible?”
“Maybe we’ve offended some expert. Whenever we post a new article, it disappears instantly.”
“So who have you offended?”
“We have no idea.”
Alpha King Larry furrowed his eyebrows, deep in thought. “Forget it. You’re wasting my time. I’m never working with you again.” He abruptly hung up.
Dan, the butler, looked at Alpha King Larry with concern. “Old Alpha Morris, aren’t you afraid Mr. Alpha Kilian will find out?”
“What proof does he have? Besides, what can he do? Get angry with me?”
Dan chuckled softly. “I thought you wanted to protect Ms. Jackson from Mr. Alpha Kilian. It doesn’t seem like you’re doing that.”
“You misunderstand. I’m trying to stir up trouble where there isn’t any,” Alpha King Larry explained, a smirk playing on his lips. “This brat has fallen in love. If I don’t teach him a lesson, he won’t know the pain of unrequited love. At the very least, I’m teaching him to be grateful.”
“I hope Mr. Alpha Kilian sees your intentions.”
“Don’t expect too much from that heartless brat!” Alpha King Larry cursed under his breath.
