After Death, Love Unveiled (Elara and Lysander)

Chapter 258

Asher said, "Daphne isn't that kind of person. She has a good personality. If you don't stir up trouble, she won't bother you." "But..." Dana tried to explain, but Daphne had already opened the car door and gotten in.

Seated in the passenger seat, Daphne glanced at Dana's aggrieved expression and then at Asher. "Did you scold her?"

Asher replied, "I said a couple of things. Work's been exhausting lately, and now I have to pick her up too. It's frustrating."

With a gentle smile, Daphne said, "Dana, if you have any issues, just talk to me or your brother, alright? Stop running over to their place. You know Elara doesn't like Asher. You're just troubling him."

At this moment, Daphne's voice was soft, completely unlike her usual cold demeanor.

Dana looked at her, remembering all the things she had just said behind her back.

In this situation, she knew Asher wouldn't believe her. She sank into her seat quietly.

"Alright, let's head home," Daphne said to Asher.

Asher glanced at her. "What did Elara say to you just now?"

Recalling how Elara had pulled her aside, Daphne gave a bitter smile.

-Daphne said, "She told me not to bully Dana. But you know I'd never do that. Dana hasn't even met Mrs. Smith's brother, yet

she's claiming I'm bullying her. If Dana doesn't want to go on a blind date, it's fine."

She continued, "It's just a meeting. Things are difficult for our family right now, but she doesn't want to help at all.

"Trailblaze Group is already working with Mr. Walker's team. I pulled every string I could just to get connected with Mrs. Smith. And now..."

She sighed. "Forget it. If we lose the deal, so be it. In the end, you're the one who'll bear the burden anyway."

Asher said firmly, "I'll handle the company's problems myself. Just don't make things worse for me."

"Got it," Daphne replied, then added with a hint of exasperation," Still, Elara is something else. She doesn't like you, so why is she so involved in our family's affairs? She probably can't wait for us to go bankrupt." She added, "She's in cahoots with Mr. Hassiron! Always trying to ruin things for us. And now she's telling up with anyone."

Asher said flatly, "Her hatred for me isn't new. Let it go."

I can't set Dana.

Daphne chimed in, "Exactly! We don't have any powerful connections. What can we do?"

Sitting in the back, Dana listened to Daphne paint herself as selfless and Dana as inconsiderate.

Frowning, Dana said, "If it's just a blind date, I don't mind. But I don't want to get married! You heard what Elara said. That man has tons of girlfriends outside!" Daphne responded, "It's just a blind date. Who forces anyone into marriage these days? Since you've agreed, shall we proceed with tomorrow's meeting?"

Asher looked at Dana through the rearview mirror. "You don't have to force yourself. I'll handle the issues."

Dana's heart swelled with a mix of guilt and determination as she gazed at him. "I'll be fine."

She knew their mother had always been harsh on Asher. Dana felt a deep sympathy for Asher and wanted to help ease his burden.

Hearing his reassurances now, she trusted that he wouldn't put her in a bad situation.

When they returned home, Dana went to rest.

Daphne and Asher went back to their room. Daphne told Asher, I'll take Dana to meet Pamela tomorrow. I won't go to the office, so the company matters will fall on you." "Alright," Asher replied.

Daphne leaned closer, kissing him on the cheek. "Thank you for understanding me, Asher. Otherwise, people would really think I'm mistreating Dana!"

Asher looked at her calmly. "You handle the family matters."

"Of course," she said with a sweet smile.

The next morning, Asher left for the office, and Daphne took Dana out for the blind date.

Before leaving, Daphne dressed Dana up.

"I don't like this dress," Dana said, eyeing the low-cut gown Daphne had picked for her.

Daphne said, "Silly. You're not a kid anymore! You're an adult now, so you can't keep dressing like a little girl. Trust me, we're just putting on a show. Everyone dresses like this. If I had your figure, I'd wear this too." Daphne looked at Dana's innocent face and found it laughable.

They shared the same mother, yet while Asher had endured so much hardship, Dana had been shielded from life's difficulties.

Daphne recalled how Edith had taken Dana to Elara's wedding but had excluded her, acting superior.

Daphne mused inwardly, 'When Dana marries into the Smith family, Edith won't keep that smug attitude anymore.

Felicity and Elara arrived at the restaurant that morning to discuss a film project. Felicity took charge of managing the cinematic adaptation of Elara's novel.

Having some free time, Elara decided to accompany Felicity on this outing.

As they reached the entrance, they saw Dana and Daphne.

Elara frowned and called out, "Dana."

Hearing the voice, Dana turned around. "Elara."

Elara started to walk over but stopped when she saw Daphne watching her. She remembered Daphne's comments the night before, claiming she disliked their family. She hesitated, holding herself back.

"What brings you here?" Elara asked, noticing Dana's revealing outfit and the fact that she was with Daphne.

Elara could not help but think about it.

Daphne smiled politely. "We're just here for a meal. What a coincidence, Mrs. Hawthorne, Miss Kensington."

Elara's eyes lingered on Daphne's overly cheerful demeanor before turning back to Dana. "Are you here for a blind date? Daphne, haven't you given up yet?"

Elara knew that with Adam's company on the rise and Asher's struggling, desperation might be setting in. Daphne's tactics to gain favor didn't surprise her, but they were shameless.

Daphne turned to Dana with an overly gentle tone. "Dana, if you don't want to go, it's okay."

Dana said, addressing Elara, "It's fine. We're just here for lunch. We'll be off now, Elara."

Elara didn't respond and watched them leave.

She felt that something was off.

Felicity noticed her expression and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Let's go," Elara replied, following Felicity to their private room. She discreetly sent out a message.

By two in the afternoon, while still dining with Felicity, Elara received an update from the person she had dispatched.

[Mrs. Hawthorne, Dana is drunk and being taken downstairs by Liam Smith.]

She asked: [What about Daphne?]

The person replied: [She's still upstairs with Pamela.]

Elara went downstairs immediately. She arrived just in time to see Liam being stopped by security. He was shouting furiously, "Are you all out of your minds? How dare you block me!" Dana was slumped in the car, visibly drunk and completely unresponsive.

Elara felt Daphne's tactics were despicable.
