Chapter 17: The Ballroom Meet And Greet - 3
Liza was talking to Ms. Cassandra Clare, one of her all tie favorite authors. She loved the novels by
Cassandra Clare. Usually, Liza preferred to stay grounded in reality but there was something in her
books that made her forget about everything. She was discussing the contrasting characters of James
Carstairs and William Herondale (both of them were characters of a very popular series called 'The
infernal Devices') and how despite being so different they still seemed to be similar to each other when
someone spoke from behind her. "Excuse me Ms. Clare Do you mind if I borrow her for a moment?"
"Yeah, of course, Mr. west" Cassandra replied as she bid Liza goodbye and left to find her husband.
Liza turned around to find Jonathan staring at her. He was looking as handsome as ever in his dark
blue tux. "Do you need something, Jonathan?" Liza asked willing to keep her blush at by as Jonathan
continued to stare at her. "Yeah, um... You look beautiful" he stuttered. Liza chuckled and said
"Anything else?" A light pink blush made its way to Jonathan's cheeks "Will you dance with me?" he
asked. Liza's smile dropped. Sure she had started talking to Jonathan but was she ready to be this
close to him? She didn't feel anything for him, her love for him was long gone. However, talking with
Jonathan had revealed a new side to him. He had matured a lot. Unlike before he was no longer the
confused man she had married, he now knew what he wanted. Liza was aware that Jonathan still loved
her but was it enough? He had loved her four years back and yet his love her hadn't stopped him from
cheating on her. He could still revert to his old ways and now that his company had grown, his
popularity had grown too. Liza knew that girls threw themselves at him, what if he took one of them up
on their offer? Liza knew that she couldn't take that chance again and therefore she needed to distance
herself from him before she started to develop any kind of feelings for him. So she politely shook her
head and said "No, I have danced enough for today." Jonathan looked miffed by her answer but said
nothing about him. Instead, he led her to a table, offered her a seat, and handed her some champagne.
Jonathan stared at Liza, as she sat on the chair beside him sipping from the glass of champagne he
had handed her earlier. He had been a little dejected from her refusal to dance but he shrugged it, he
knew that he had no right to expect anything from Liza. So instead he had offered her a seat and had
settled with the fact that he would at least be able to enjoy her company. The green-eyed monster had
made its appearance the minute he had seen Liza dancing Alex but there was nothing she could do
about it. Besides, she was looking really happy while she was dancing with Alex. What if Alex was
better for her than he was? What if she had already for Alex, after all, he was with her when he had
broken her? The doubts began to make their way in Jonathan's mind as he stared at her. He saw a
smile lighting her face as she looked at people dancing to the soft tunes and then he resolved that at
the end, he would do anything to keep that smile on her face, even if it meant letting her go.
