Chapter 273
Chapter 273 You Don’t Deserve Any Mercy
“At your age, you don’t even know if you will live to see tomorrow. What if something crucial for the fate of the Larkin family falls into the wrong hands? | am your daughter-in-law and the mother of your grandson. Can’t you trust me?”
“Get out! Leave!” Hans’s words echoed as he forcefully banged his cane on the ground. “I don’t want to see you at Beverley Manor ever again! Rita, you can try as hard as you want, but I'll never give you what you desire!”
Being frail, Hans could not sustain such strong emotions, and Fernando quickly rushed into the gazebo. Maia, sensing the tense situation, quickly followed.
Fernando, despite his inner anger, had to remain civil to Rita. He could only politely say, “Ms. Rita, Mr Hans’s health is not what it used to be. Why did you upset him so much? Please leave.”
Rita, determined to get what she wanted, was not about to leave without it.
“Maia, speak some sense into him. This old man has been stuck in Beverley Manor for so long that he has lost touch with reality. As Cedric’s mother, | am now the head of the Larkin family. | deserve my due! I’m not leaving until | get what | want!”
Maia found it laughable. She finally understood why Rita had invited her to Beverley Manor today. Firstly, Hans was genuinely fond of her. He treated her like a real daughter or a
granddaughter. Rita brought Maia along to leverage on her closeness to Hans, hoping that he would lower his guard and lay the groundwork for what she wanted.
Secondly, Rita believed that Maia, with her lost memories and submissive demeanor, could be a persuasive mediator to convince Hans to hand over the desired items.
Furthermore, this was an assertion of dominance. Rita was showing Maia that Hans no longer held sway in the Larkin family.
Maia remained silent, and the atmosphere became somber. She saw the uncontrollable anger in Hans and felt a twinge of pity for him. In the next moment, Maia picked up the tea cup on
the marble table and handed it to Rita.
“It's not good to be so hot-tempered. Mother, have a sip of tea to calm down,” Maia said with a smile as she handed the tea cup to Rita. “We are family. There’s no need to argue so harshly. Let’s sit down and discuss things together.”
Maia’s voice was gentle and lacked any aggression. Rita unthinkingly accepted the tea cup from Maia, and took a sip. However, as the tea entered her mouth, a salty taste quickly spread, causing Rita’s expression to change drastically. She immediately spat it out.
“Mother, what’s wrong?” Maia said, looking concerned.
The awful taste of the tea left Rita speechless for a moment..
“Maia Burgess, what did you put in this tea?!” Rita stared at Maia and shouted loudly.
“Mother, | didn’t put anything in the tea... Is something wrong?” Maia continued to feign ignorance.
Rita’s perplexed expression suddenly made the previously angry Hans burst into laughter, instantly improving his mood.
“Maia, you little vixen! How dare you put salt in the tea! I’ll skin you alive!” Rita’s words made Hans’s expression somewhat anxious, fearing she might harm Maia.
“Fernando.”
Just as he was about to ask Fernando to step in, Rita had already rushed towards Maia. Maia dodged and Rita failed to grab her. As Rita turned to try to catch Maia again, Maia reached out and grabbed her hair!
“Maia Burgess, what are you doing? Let go! Let go, | said!” Rita immediately started screaming.
“Do you even know what you’re doing right now? This is outrageous. If you dare to treat me like this, believe me...” Before Rita could finish her sentence, Maia pressed her head into a nearby pond.
“Since the tea was so salty, you should drink some water.” Maia held Rita’s head down for a
few seconds, then pulled her out, only to press her back in!
“Maia... Maia Burgess... What are you doing!”
Rita choked on some water, and her speech became incoherent. The imposing demeanor she had displayed earlier had
completely disappeared, and she resembled nothing more than a wet dog.
Maia smiled and answered Rita’s question, “What am | doing? Mother, can’t you understand? I’m helping you, right? I’m helping you to rinse the salt from your mouth, and your foul words along with it. It's a two—in—one solution. You don’t have to thank me, I'm just doing my duty.”
Maia continued holding Rita down. The anger within her was burning fiercely; this was just the beginning. “Have you... have you regained your memory?” Rita was no fool and quickly figured it out.
“| never lost my memory, Rita. Do you know who locked you in the restaurant restroom? Do
you confess that someone from the Larkin family had assaulted Zera?”
Upon hearing Maia’s words, Rita instantly realized the truth, and her expression became extremely ugly.
“Don't worry, sending you straight to prison is too easy. The reckoning between us isn’t over yet. Do you remember how you used to treat me?” As Maia finished speaking, she grabbed Rita’s hair and yanked her up, looking at her disheveled face.
“Maia Burgess, | should have killed you back then. | should have killed you!” Maia stared at Rita with a fierce expression, a faint coldness in her beautiful but chilling demeanor.
“Don't worry, | won’t act out of misplaced kindness. Someone like you doesn’t deserve any mercy!” Maia smiled, resembling a bloodthirsty red rose, beautiful yet intimidating. “Trying to take advantage of grandpa, huh? I’ll make you pay for that!”
Before Rita could respond, Maia plunged her into the pond again. Maia and Rita were not too far from the gazebo, and their conversation was heard by Hans and Fernando. With
Fernando's support, Hans walked to the edge of the pond...
