New Assistant
That day had been two weeks since I started working there. Even though my boss was a total pain in the back, I could still say that I got used to my job. I generally learned the workflow. Meeting arrangements, and Mr. Alonzo's personal choices. Maybe the hardest part was it. Learning Mr. Alonzo.
He was a total control freak and he had some obsessions. He was coming to work every day at 9:30 and he was always staying late after the end of the business day. He was obsessed with cleaning and he had no tolerance to dust. Luckily I was not responsible for keeping his office clean, there was a whole team assigned for that, but still I should check on them after every time they cleaned the office. There was a hidden room behind his office, it was basically a bedroom with a small bathroom area and a walk-in closet. There were more than twenty suits there, just in case. And he was expecting every one of them to be clean and ironed all the time. Everyday after lunch time, he was changing all of his clothes and I had enough evidence to believe he was also taking a shower as well. Because I was seeing wet towels and a wet shower cabin everyday. And sometimes, his hair was still wet when he had it styled again in the way he always does. Slicked back in a sharp line. A black curtain circling his dark intimidating eyes.
Actually his cleaning obsession was making me nervous about my cleaning too. Whenever I got too close to him, I started to feel nervous if I was smelling clean or not. Not that I was not taking good care of my personal cleaning, I was a clean person in a normal way, like taking a shower everyday and brushing my teeth etcetera, but next to someone taking shower two times a day it was something to consider.
He was always rude to me and was barely talking to me but still didn't fire me so I was assuming that he was getting used to me. Only things I couldn't solve yet was making coffee and taking my shoes off. It was a habit for me to take off my shoes whenever I sat at my table, because I couldn't get used to those stilettos yet and I needed to rest my feet every time I sat. I caught him as he was looking at my bare feet a couple times. I was sure that he was disgusted by it but I had no choice. Whenever our eyes met while he was looking at my feet, he shut the blinds on my face. Rude! And of course making-coffee thing. It's been two weeks now but still I couldn't make a coffee that he didn't spit back into the coffee mug. It shouldn't be that bad should it? I thought I was doing well for a couple of days when other guys from other offices started to show up to take coffee from our kitchen. But than Mr. Alonzo shooed all of them and no one dared to come back again.
I managed to see Matt from a distance once or twice, he smiled at me like a ball of sunshine, but he never came near me. I couldn't blame him. Last time he kindly asked me out for a drink, I refused him. And he had every right to stay away from me right now, because I said that I don't want any closeness or friendship. So why the whining right? But it was hard for me not to miss his perfect smiles and dimples.
And when I saw Matt at the end of the corridor, I was sure that he would just throw me a small smile and turn to another direction as he always did. But surprisingly he continued coming my way. I instantly took a look at my boss' office and luckily the blinds were still closed. When I had taken off my shoes he had shut the blinds angrily and didn't open it afterwards.
I started feeling jumpy as Matt got nearer to me, and when he was ten steps away from my desk, I couldn't take it anymore and jumped on my feet. He kept grinning at me all the way through, and when he saw I jumped on my feet he broke a big smile, and of course with dimples. God! Have mercy on me please. I was trying a virtuous woman here and he was not helping any.
"Hello, love." he said with his soft flirting tone.
"Hello Mr. Alonzo. How can I help you?" I asked politely.
He looked at my bare feet and his mischievous eyes met mine.
"So tell me what those poor shoes did to you to have the misfortune of losing your affection?"
I smiled at him.
"They are just squeezing too tight." I said.
"I know, I learned from the hard way that you don't like to be squeezed." he winked at me. I felt I was starting to blush again. He looked enjoying seeing me blushing.
I lowered my eyes to my feet and tried to hide my reddening cheeks. He extended his hand towards me and tugged a stray strand back of my ear. I felt physical burning on my cheeks and ears now. He lifted my chin with two fingers to make me look into his eyes. I suddenly suffocated with green forests. Damn! He knew his affect on me and he made me look into his eyes before saying his next words;
"I missed you, Alice." and that's it. I was practically burning now. My cheeks were sizzling with the blood rushed in and there was an unfamiliar coiling sensation at my lower abdomen. I made the dumbest mistake and looked at his mouth. Full lips curled with a knowing grin, making one of the dimples visible. I wanted to touch those lips with my lips. I wanted to taste his breath and the softness of his mouth on me. I felt like I was being drawn to him. Was it my imagination or was he drawing closer to me too? I felt like the distance between our lips started to close bit by bit. I started feeling his peppermint smelling breath touching my face. God, I was doomed. Then, I heard a voice breaking the trance; "Ihmm, Ihmm!" Someone cleared throat.
Matt's fingers left my chin immediately and turned to face the source of the voice like I did. I knew who was the source before I turned, and I cursed to my luck. When I turned to face him, Anton Alonzo was fuming with rage, sending daggers from his dark eyes and I felt like if he keeps looking like this a little bit longer I would turn to a pile of ash.
"Brother!" Matt exclaimed with a joyful tone like seeing his brother was the most enjoyable thing in the world, despite the killing stares that he sent toward us.
"How good to see you. I was talking with your lovely assistant."
"I saw that much," Anton replied in a serial killer tone.
"Come now, what is all that sulking? Aren't you happy to see your brother?"
"I see you more than enough already Matt. Don't get handsy around my staff." I felt incredibly ashamed. What does this mean? Getting handsy? Like we were touching each other's special parts. He just touched my chin. But somehow, I felt it was more than this and I felt he was partially right. That's why I started looking at my bare feet and decided never to lift my head again.
"Oh come on! Isn't it hard to walk around like a stick has been stuffed into your ass all day?"
I didn't look up but I bet Mr. Anton was livid. But then I heard his extremely cold and calm voice.
"Whatever Matt. Just keep away from my staff and leave."

"Okay, okay I am leaving. I never stay around places that I wouldn't be welcomed. But for staying away from your staff, that's not gonna happen brother." "What?" Mr. Anton asked.
"Ahh, did I forget to mention that my assistant has broken her leg? She took a month off, so I talked with father and he agreed with me to use your assistant as well for that period."
I lifted my head from my feet as soon as I heard those words. What? I would be an assistant for both Alonzos?
"What the hell are you talking about?" asked Mr. Anton, locked his dark eyes to Matt's green eyes which were shining with delight.
"You heard me. She will be my assistant too for one month. It's our father's order."
"Hell no!" said Anton.
"Feel free to confirm with him." Matt said dismissively, then his eyes met mine again.
"Ms. Wonderland, please come to my office tomorrow at 10.00. I know my brother's obsession is about 9 o'clock, so I will let him have the first hour of the day. Then we can make our schedule according to your workload." he said. And without any other word, he turned back on his heels and left. I stared after him in shock. Then I turned to see Mr. Anton's expression. He gritted his teeth and fists. Turned his back to me like his brother and slammed his office door with a loud bang.
