There was a hint of fear in Miranda’s hoarse and trembling voice. She seemed like a frightened but helpless bird.

Hansel felt his body burning up with lust. He gave up removing her top and slipped his hand directly under her skirt.

Miranda panicked. “Hansel, you can have any woman you want! Why are you forcing yourself on an ex–girlfriend like me? If you’re desperate for sex, I can call Ingrid here right now. No! Don’t do this!”

Miranda’s reddened eyes were filled with disgust and obstinacy.

Hansel felt a surge of malicious desire rise up within him when he saw her resisting his advances.

“What’s the fuss? Are you pretending to be strangers when we’ve only been broken up for a few days? It’s not like I haven’t slept with you before. Why are you acting like a chaste maiden?”

Miranda trembled with anger. “You bastard!”

Hansel smirked and gripped her chin. “Do you think you’re worth anything without me? No man wants a woman who’s been with someone else.”

Miranda’s tears streamed down her face uncontrollably as she stared incredulously at the man she’d loved for six years. It was as if she’d never truly known him.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Hansel chuckled and fixed his gaze on her trembling lips. “Are you feeling turned on?” With that, he kissed her forcefully.

Hansel pried her hands away and tore her top roughly. Miranda cried while he laughed maliciously.

At that moment, Miranda realized the physical disparity between men and women. She helplessly thought that perhaps she should just think of this as getting bitten by a rabid dog.

Just as she was on the brink of despair, the weight on her body. disappeared suddenly. A strong force had pulled Hansol off, who had pinned her down with his body weight.

Caught off guard, Hansel stumbled several steps back from the momentum. He finally regained his balance when he hit his back on the bookshelves.

Paul had been waiting for Miranda for some time. He’d guessed that she was having trouble carrying the heavy books, so he’d gotten out of the car and knocked on the door of the mansion, intending to help her

out.

When Martha had opened the door, Paul heard the commotion and hurried upstairs without hesitation.

He’d pushed the door open to the study, only to be greeted by the sight. of Hansel forcing himself on Miranda. Clearly, he was trying to assault. her on the couch, ignoring her struggles and resistance.

Miranda’s skirt was hiked up to her waist, and her clothes were torn. Her futile resistance had left her wide–eyed in despair, tears streaming down her face.

At that moment, Paul lost all sense of logic and reason. His usual calm demeanor disappeared entirely. How could Hansel do that to Miranda?

“Are you okay?” Paul quickly took off his jacket and wrapped it around. Miranda. Then, he helped her sit up.

Miranda’s body was trembling violently, and her face streaked with tears. Her usual bright eyes were now dull and lifeless. She was in at daze, trapped in a nightmare she couldn’t escape.

Paul held her shoulders tightly. He said in a calming and reassuring voice, “Miranda, it’s okay now. Nothing bad will happen to you. Answer me; are you alright? Miranda!”

After he called her name several times, Miranda was finally able to give him a response. She gradually returned to her senses and focused her gaze on Paul’s face. “Dr. Jefferson…

She was shivering in fear.

Paul’s warm palm gently stroked her back repeatedly. “It’s okay now. You’re safe.”

“Yeah!” Miranda nodded heavily. Now that the floodgates were open, she couldn’t stop crying.

Hansel watched as the two of them held each other intimately, as if no one else was around. He glared at Paul darkly when he recognized him as the man he’d seen in the restaurant.

Suddenly, Hansel sneered maliciously, “So, it’s you. What number are you on Miranda’s bench of losers? Are you trying to play the hero to

damsel in distress-”
