Chapter 24
Chapter 24
The guards later pulled Mason away, but he had already been heavily wounded.
This was the first time Mason had experienced this kind of violence from his father. He was too shaken up to know how to react.
Feeling that he did not deserve the punishment, he asked, “Why did you hit me?”
Lily seized the moment and stepped forward, “Mr. Harvey. It was wrong of me to offend you. It was all my fault. Please don’t blame him for it.”
Derek’s breathing was still uneven from his anger. He pointed at Nathan then loudly clarified, “That man is Mr. Cross. He is Thomas Dunn’s chief and the person whom I respect the most. It was shocking to see you two disrespect him. Either you apologize now or I’ll beat you to death!”
Thomas Dunn!
Mason was alarmed.
Thomas Dunn was the underground boss of the Eastern District, who was known for his brutality.
Operating with an iron fist, he had made himself the top dog in two years.
Despite having left his position in the Armed Forces for years, it did not make him any less powerful.
Thomas Dunn was also known as Hades the Annihilator.
The story behind it was chilling. A group of outlaws provoked Thomas Dunn, and as a result, they were all eliminated.
From then on, no one wanted to get on the wrong side of him.
Mason was also informed about the episode where his father had offended Thomas Dunn’s chief. That was how his father had become disabled. Even after his injury, he had to visit the family to beg for mercy.
Staring at Nathan, Mason finally came to realize his true identity.
This was the man behind his father’s misery!
Mason’s face looked as if he had seen a ghost. His knees felt weak, and he fell on his knees.
At the verge of weeping, Mason had to squeeze the words out of his closed-up throat, “Mr. Cross... I... I was too ignorant. I know I deserve the worst punishment... but... please forgive me this time...”
Lily witnessed as her mighty Mason dissolved into tears. This man had become someone she did not know.
Yet, that also gave her an idea of how influential Nathan was.
Nathan appeared unbothered by this. He looked at Mason and Lily emotionlessly, then smirked, “Didn’t you demand my apology?”
Lily was speechless. Before she could say a word, Mason yanked her down to kneel next to him.
Mason crawled closer to Nathan, “I’m so sorry. I truly regret it.”
Lily was shivering uncontrollably, “Please accept our sincerest apologies... It won’t happen again.”
Derek watched them nervously. He had punished his son in hopes that Nathan would let Mason go easier. He desperately hoped it would work out that way.
However, Mason and Lily’s attitude toward Nathan was outrageous.
It was never Nathan’s style to forgive and forget.
Still, he was moved by the earnest look in Derek’s eyes. Never in a million years would his loveless father act this way.
Penny’s whisper also helped the situation, “Nathan. They’re aware of their misbehavior. Let’s just let it go.”
Nathan turned to Penny with a gentle look, “Okay, honey. As you wish.”
Derek and Mason felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off their shoulders. They bowed their heads to express their thankfulness.
Understanding that Nathan was here for a new property, Derek ordered Gina, “Show Mr. Cross the best villas we have. No matter which one he chooses, start the paperwork immediately. It’ll be a gift from me.”
Derek dropped yet another bomb. No one could wrap their heads around this, considering that each villa could sell for ten million at the very least.
Nathan understood Derek’s gesture, but he was not a man who would exploit others. He declined indifferently, “Thank you for your kind gesture. However, I’d much prefer paying for my own house. It’s only a villa we’re talking about anyway. I don’t need help for it.”
Nathan cast an intense glance at Lily.
Derek was observant enough to get the hint. This girl must have mocked Nathan for not being able to buy a villa.
So, he instructed the guards, “Take her out!”
The guards charged towards Lily as if they could devour her, then hauled her out forcefully.
