Chapter 11
Side Story
Noel’s POV
Elena has been gone for five years, and during this time, there has been no news about her.
I visited Salt Lake City several times but never encountered her.
Eventually, I couldn’t resist calling her, using an unfamiliar number so she wouldn’t know it was me searching for her.
But her phone was unreachable.
Then Lydia and her stepfather left. He suddenly

chose to divorce my mother.
The house felt emptier.
My mother aged significantly.
At this point, she suddenly asked me to find
Elena.
She didn’t know that I had been searching for her for quite some time.
I used to worry about Elena leaving, fearing that Lydia would need her and not be able to find
her.
I had a tracking app installed on her phone.
I knew everywhere she went.

I could also trace her online presence.
With money, nothing is impossible.
But this time, she had truly vanished.
There were no traces of her, either in reality or
online.
Although Lydia and her father left home, she frequently came to visit me.
She was healthy, and Elena’s disappearance had no effect on her.
She said her father found her another stable
blood source.
I was curious, wondering what could be more stable than Elena, given that it was someone

unrelated.
Lydia was evasive, mentioning a kind–hearted person but not revealing their identity.
I didn’t press further; as long as she was healthy, that was what mattered.
One night, I had a strange dream. I dreamed of
Elena.
She was trapped in a dark room, crying incessantly and banging on the door.
She said, “Brother, help me!”
She was so terrified, so helpless.
When I woke up, my pillow was wet.

I was reluctant to admit it, but I missed her.
I truly missed my sister.
Five years without a trace of her, and I had no idea how she was doing.
When she was seven, I started to resent her, and my mother did too.
It’s unimaginable how she survived these years without anyone to protect her.
I finally decided to report her missing.
I couldn’t believe that someone could just disappear into thin air.
When Lydia heard that I was going to file a report, she seemed anxious.

“I’m sure Elena is doing just fine. We shouldn’t disturb her.”
“How do you know she’s doing well?” I asked
her.
She blushed, stammering, and said nothing.
That night, I received a message from an unknown number.
“I hate you all! Don’t look for me! Don’t disturb me!”
I immediately replied.
“Where are you?”
“None of your business!”

I quickly realized this wasn’t Elena.
The tone was Elena’s, but Elena’s messages were always brief and without punctuation.
A jolt of realization struck me.
It was Lydia.
Lydia’s messages were often filled with exclamation points.
