True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz)

Chapter 2264

Chapter 2264

"Hello, miss. May I borrow your phone to make a phone call?"

At the door of the women's restroom, Claudia tried to borrow a phone from a slightly older lady so that she could call Kendrix to keep him informed. However, the lady sized up Claudia with great caution. "Do you want me to lend you my phone? Are you sure?"

Claudia was stumped by her question shortly before she nodded gravely. "Yes, I want to borrow your phone to make a call. It will take only two minutes. Is that okay?"

"Don't you have a phone yourself?" The lady asked again, "What era are we in now? Do you not even have a phone? Who knows if you're a liar? What if you take my phone and run away?"

Claudia was rendered speechless by the lady's questions. She had encountered such a situation when she went on a police duty in the past. The lady in front of her might have been scammed before, therefore she could be traumatized. Did she look like a robber? Claudia wondered so.

"Miss, I'm a policewoman," Claudia said.

"Oh, come on, the scammers these days always claim that they're police officers." The lady still regarded Claudia as a scammer. She thought Claudia was going to scam her of her phone.

Claudia really had a hard time to justify herself.

She had no choice but to take out her police ID and handed it to the lady.

"This is my ID. Please have a look. I'm really a policewoman. It isn't that I don't have a phone, but I didn't bring it with me. Something urgent came up and I need to borrow yours for a while."

The lady took her police ID and surveyed it carefully.

She first observed Claudia's face, then the photo on the ID. Afterward, she nodded.

Just when Claudia thought the lady had begun to trust her, the lady said unexpectedly, "Tsk tsk, the forging skills nowadays are amazing. It really resembles a real ID. Scammers like you really make a lot of effort nowadays, don't you?"

Claudia had lost for words. She had no idea how the lady could have such wild imaginations.

"Girl, if you have the time to forge a police ID, why don't you use it to get a proper job instead? Quit coming out to trick people. In fact, a phone isn't worth much dollars either." "Miss, stop with that wild imagination." Claudia really could not put up with such a vigilant citizen.

She wondered. "What's wrong with you? Can't you be a little more helpful? Why do you have to regard everyone as scammers?"

"Ha!" The lady sneered, "I knew it. You've showed your true colors, haven't you? There isn't a police officer as impatient as you. You must be a scammer."

"Any police officer would have been maddened by you." Claudia opined, "I can't believe you said that my official police ID is a prop used by a scammer. That's crazy. Miss, how many times have you been cheated? It's just a phone. To begin with, I'm not a scammer, but even if a scammer really defrauds you of it, how much can it be worth?"

"Look at you, you're showing your true colors. Will a trained police office ever say something like this?" Glaring at Claudia, the lady was even more convinced of her own thoughts. "Polices aren't as low-quality as you."

"Fine, I no longer need your phone. Just give me back my police ID." Claudia had lost all her patience. If she continued to waste time with that lady, Sebastian would probably go and look for her.

By then, she could not make the call, and he might find out what she had been doing.

Wouldn't that be embarrassing?

To her consternation, the lady refused to return her police ID to her.

She scowled at Claudia and said, "You're trying to swindle me out of my phone with a fake ID. I want to call the police and tell them about your behavior so that you scammers can find nowhere to hide."

Claudia felt so wronged.

At the same time, she also found it very absurd. That lady was indeed a one-in-a-million weirdo.

Logically speaking, being on guard against strangers would do her no harm. It was just that if the lady called the police, wouldn't Claudia be mortified?

Wasn't it a joke to be involved in such a snafu when she first came to work in Northern City?

Claudia tried her best to be patient. She said, "Miss, I'm really a policewoman. Look at this police ID, even the stamping is real. The counterfeit one can't forge a detailed feature like this. It's fine by me if you don't want to lend me your phone, but won't it be horrible of you to make such an allegation against me for no reason?"

"Humph, quit lying." The woman sneered and replied, "You're a scammer, and I ought to get rid of scammers. Otherwise, I will fail myself as a human being."

The lady stood on the moral high ground and chastized Claudia.

Claudia was impressed by her imagination. She sighed and said, "Miss, I'm really a policewoman. How many times do I have to explain for you to understand it?"

"It won't work no matter how many times you repeat it. You might as well explain it in the police station," said the lady, who was about to call the police.

Claudia clasped the woman's wrist. "Miss, don't call the police."

"Let go of me." Being grabbed, the lady snarled right away, "A robbery! Help, there's a female robber over here!"

Her shout attracted the attention of others instantly.

Claudia was shocked and immediately let go of the woman's wrist. She quickly raised her hand and said, "Okay, okay, don't yell. There's no need to overreact. I'm truly not robbing you."

"Humph, we can discuss later when the police come. If you're really a policewoman, then make it clear to your colleagues."

The lady insisted on calling the police.

Claudia was at a loss for words, feeling the urge to roll her eyes at the lady.

All that had been witnessed by Sebastian since long ago. When he saw how abashed Claudia was, he could not help tittering.

It was within his expectation since the beginning.

She was indeed there to borrow a phone.

Also, she landed herself in hot water.

With a slight smile, Sebastian walked over.

Claudia had not seen him. She was busy arguing with the lady.

"Miss, what do I need to do for you to let me off?"

Claudia tried to be as subservient as she could so that the woman would quickly let her go. If she continued to make a fuss, Claudia would be in real trouble.

"Don't even think about it. I'll show

no mercy to scammers like you." The lady sneered, "You could have pretended to be anyone else but a policewoman. I've to help removing the scums of the earth like you."

"Miss, fine, I admit that I'm not a policewoman, but a scammer. Please let me go. I won't do this anymore. Is that okay?" Claudia speak in a low voice as she had no choice but to humor the lady.

"Humph, you've admitted it, right? I knew you're a scammer." Hearing that Claudia had conceded it, the lady wanted to push it. "You female scammer, I must send you to the police station today, or else I can't avenge myself." The lady became more persistent. Claudia was speechless again. "Miss, how many times have you been cheated by scammers? Why do you hate them so much?" "This is none of your business." The lady opined coldly, "I've met a lot of scammers in my life. This time, you're doomed that you met me." "I'm really not a scammer." Claudia explained, with a very sincere tone. She felt that she was on the brink of losing her patience totally.

It seemed that she had to be careful

when she borrow a phone or other things in the future. She should not simply ask such a favor of a

stranger. Otherwise, she mightà

herself in deep water, just like how she was unable to defend herself at the moment.

"Why are you behaving in such a capricious way? You first remarked that you're a policewoman instead of a scammer, then claimed that you're actually a scammer, and now you say that you aren't a scammer. Well, tell me who you really are."

The woman finished her words in one breath as if she was uttering a tongue twister.

When Claudia was about to reply something, but she sensed a different aura behind her suddenly, which caused her back to be stiffened at once.

She turned her head to take a look subconsciously. As a result, she got the fright of her life. What followed was her dazed gaze on Sebastian.

D*mn it.

She wondered when he appeared behind her, and if he had heard all the conversation between the lady and her.

Sebastian darted a glance at Claudia and met her eyes. Perceiving the dumbfounded expression of hers, he found it funny.

All of his previous grievances had dissipated at that moment, and he felt a little better.

He looked down at Claudia without speaking a word for a long time.

Being seen, Claudia lowered her head. Her thick eyelashes were fluttering and her face had gone crimson.

She blushed in embarrassment.

The feelings of wrath, hatred and helplessness overwhelmed her and made her feel impotent.

She had been filled with such feelings all over.

He could laughed at her to his heart's content.

Wasn't that what he desired to see? In Claudia's eyes, she would wind up in such a state only because of him.

"Lad, take a look at this woman for me. She's a scammer. Check on this fake police ID she used to fool me," spoke the lady, who pulled Sebastian over immediately when she saw his stunning face.

Claudia was annoyed. She thought to herself, "I'm screwed. I'm going to lose face completely."

She could only look up at Sebastian, hoping that he could speak up for her rather than make the situation worse.

To her dismay, when he received her meaningful gaze, he grinned, as though he was gloating over her misfortune.

Claudia fixed her eyes on him, hoping earnestly that he would not add insult to injury.

However, she was disappointed.

Out of the blue, Sebastian spoke to the lady, "Madam, the woman in front of you is indeed a scammer."

D*mn it.

He actually said that she was a scammer.

That was like kicking her when she was already down. He wasn't genuine at all.

To Claudia, Sebastian was more like a scammer there since he calumniated her when he knew that she was a policewoman. He was despicable.

She shot daggers at him.

Subsequently, she cast an aggrieved look at the lady before she was at a lost for words again.

It seemed that the lady was just like her, always fangirling over handsome men.

The real scammer was Sebastian, okay? Claudia thought so.
