Chapter 21: 21
Chapter 21: 21
“I was right to come to get you from the office," Zed said walking into Freya's office. She had an
important meeting coming up with some of the top fashionistas all over and she was panicking, trying to
make sure everything goes on well.
“Babe, just five more---"
She was cut off by Zed who planted a kiss on her lips making her respond immediately.
“You need some rest and pampering love." He caressed her face.
“But, I got work to do." She sighed.
“You got this Freya, they are going to love everything you do. Already they love your collection, so relax
stop beating up yourself." Zed added picking up her bag.
“Are you done saving your files?" He asked as she nodded affirmatively.
“Let's go get some rest." He took her hand as they walked out together.
Lex sat at the back of his apartment thinking about his mom's passing. He had seen her a couple of
days ago and now she was no more. She was his only surviving parent and family member. She was
his best friend in the entire universe, and now she had left him alone in this cruel world.
How I'm I supposed to live without you Mummy? He lamented.
Hailey stood behind him watching him sit in silence and stare into the skies.
“Lex?" She called out to him sitting beside him.
“Are you okay?" She asked as he shook his head.
“What's the problem?" She inquired making him sigh.
“I just lost my mom two days ago." He whispered.
She didn't say anything but just hugged him tight, she felt he needed that.
“We've got you, you will be fine." She said to him feeling his pain.
Though her mom wasn't dead, but to her and Keith both parents were dead. They never gave a hoot
about them, all they did was to provide food, clothing, shelter and education for them and nothing more.
Others would have jumped at the opportunity if they had. There was no parental love, no mother's love
or father's guidance. They only had time for their over-pampered brat, Soraya and no one else.
“Thank you for staying with me." Lex stared into his girlfriend's eyes.
“My pleasure." She smiled.
“Hey, Sexy." A man called out to Soraya as she lay under her umbrella at the beach.
“Hi, how may I help you?" She smirked.
“Well, I was passing by and I saw a beautiful, sexy lady and decided to come to say hi." The man squat
beside her.
“Thanks for your offer but, this lady isn't interested." She said dismissively as the man walked off
ashamed.
He was good looking as well, what are you searching for? Her conscience argued with her.
Someone hotter than Zed Velasquez. She replied as if on cue a handsome man set his umbrella
beside hers.
“Hi," She said to the man who blatantly ignored her.
“Hello?" She called as he replied
“Look, I just came here to---" He trailed off as he realised whim he was talking to.
Soraya Wayne, in flesh and blood? He asked himself.
“I am sorry, hi I am Brad Clifford of Clifford industries." He introduced turning to face her.
“Nice to meet you, Brad, I am Soraya Wayne." She extended her hand towards him as he kissed it.
“So, what brings the Almighty Soraya out here?" He asked as a server brought them wine.
“Um, to forget about a fling, more like to get a fling to help me forget about a fling a had a few weeks
ago." She sipped her wine as Brad raised his brow.
“Confusing aye?" She asked.
“I do understand." He smirked making his hazel eyes light up.
“You do?" She inquired again.
“Of course I do, here's my card maybe dinner, before you go back home." He handed it over to her as
she gave hers to him.
“I would love that." She smiled as Brad packed his stuff and walked away.
Well, that was fast.
Goodbye to you Zed Velasquez, you pathetic fool. She insulted enjoying the view.
“What do you want?" Hailey said rudely to her mom as she opened the door for her.
“I just came to see how you were doing." Meg Wayne said.
“I am fine, not that you care anyways if you're done I need to get back to what I was doing." She
slammed the door in the woman's face sliding down the wall as she broke into tears.
Why couldn't she be a normal mom, a mom who would love to be with her kids rather than her job?
Hailey thought to herself.
Meg stood behind the door as she heard the sobs of her daughter. She wished she could be a better
mom to her.
But where do I start?
Is she going to let me in?
Is she going to accept me? She asked herself as she walked into her room.
“Why is all this so difficult?" She yelled in frustration.
“Grandma?" Amelia called as she entered the house.
“In the kitchen sweety." The elder woman responded as Amelia and her friends; Jake, Rita, Lauren and
Cody walked into the kitchen.
“Hey, Mrs Velasquez." They greeted.
“Hi, how was school today?" The woman asked.
“Stressful, with our exams coming up," Lauren answered.
“Aw, in no time you would be done with your exams and then summer break," Trudy replied.
“And then high school," Amelia added.
“Come on, high school would be fun." Lauren beamed.
“I hope so," Jake spoke up.
“Grandma, we would be upstairs doing homework," Amelia told.
“Okay, I would bring up some snacks in a bit," Trudy added as the kids walked off to Amelia's room.
Her room was one of the spare rooms they kept in case they had a visitor, but since her husband died
and her kids moved to find their path in life, it had been empty. When Jess suggested Amelia lived with
her, Trudy was happy. She cleaned and arranged the room for the young girl and she was glad she
loved it.
“Care for some dinner?" Jess asked her brother as he walked in.
“Nope, I'm fine." He smiled.
“I am glad you and Freya are together, see how happy you are." She said following him into the
kitchen.
“I'm happy too, how come I was so naïve to Soraya's gimmicks that I never noticed Freya's love?" He
asked.
“Because you were stuck up on her," Jess answered.
“Enough of me, you and Jackie need to get yourselves, men, you've been through a lot. Find men who
would love you for you, those who would love and cherish every moment with you. You deserve it." He
said to her.
“Thanks, Zed, I love you." She smiled.
“I love you too kiddo." He said earning a glare from her.
“Run!" She screamed as he took on his heels with Jess closely behind him.
