Chapter twenty-eight
The hallway felt eerily quiet as I carried out my duties, mopping, cleaning, and clearing away the mess. Those repulsive vampires passing by only made it worse. Some would purposefully kick the bucket, causing water to spill everywhere, forcing me to start all over again. Others would shove me or deliberately bump into me, sending me crashing my ass straight to the ground.
But in all, I couldn’t do anything. I can’t complain nor say a word after all I am in their territory and most importantly their sworn lifetime enemy, it’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. At times I wished my wolf hadn’t been suppressed, sometimes I needed my wolf to teach these proud asses a lesson but even if I have my wolf I am still a weak omega and my wolf won’t be as strong as I wished.
Pushing aside those thoughts, I was completely engrossed in my chores, unaware of anyone approaching. With a sigh of relief, I declared, “Finally, I’m done,” and quickly turned to leave. But then, unexpectedly, I collided with something… or maybe someone.
“Wait… What the…!” I hear a feminine voice squeal, but she somehow manages to stay on her feet after the collision. I feel a wave of fear wash over me as she snaps her head in my direction, making me flinch instantly. Her eyes shoot me a fierce and disgusted look as if I did it on purpose.
Sofia… Her name barely escaped my lips as I glanced back at the furious demon standing before me.
“How dare you hit me?” she scowled and asked in a raised voice.
Hit! Really? I just bumped into her unintentionally.
I heaved a sigh of relief as I glanced around the hallway, noticing that there weren’t many people around. However, I couldn’t help but realize that my collision had caught the attention of those present.
“I’m so sorry,” I mutter under my breath, biting down hard on my lips. It’s tough, but I know I have to do it to avoid any more unwanted attention. I’m already not in the best mood right now.
“Huh…?” She squinted her eyebrow at me, clearly amused by my muttered apology.
“I am sorry, I was in a hurry and didn’t see you,” I apologized to her politely.
Looking at her, I couldn’t help but admit that she was stunningly beautiful. I had seen her before, but being face-to-face with her allowed me to really take in her features. Her long blond hair with pink tips seemed incredible, and then her flawless, glowing skin gave her an ethereal quality, making her skin glitter like a transparent glass mirror……. Typical vampire gene! However, I couldn’t help but notice that the heavy makeup on her face was actually masking her true beauty.
She looks more appealing without that heavy makeup but anyway, it is none of my business. Her face, her choice.
“Sorry? Huh…,” she says with a bitter laugh. “You bumped into me, and if I hadn’t balanced myself in time, I would have fallen flat on the ground and ruined my clothes.” She approaches me, pointing at her dress, but before I can even comprehend her words, I feel something harsh collide with my face. I stumble and fall to the ground, accidentally knocking over the bucket of water beside me, wetting the freshly cleaned floor… Another reason to start afresh.
My trembling hand rises to my face, and I can’t believe it. She actually slapped me, like, seriously slapped me.
How can someone be so cruel and arrogant? I mean, I have apologized, even though it wasn’t really my fault. She was the one standing creepily in my direction. It’s just unfair!
“Hmm….. You think…..
She had barely finished her words when suddenly, I heard a cold voice echoing from the other end of the hallway, interrupting her. “What’s happening over there?” A deep voice came from behind her.
Stopping in her tracks, she smirked evilly as if she already knew the owner of the voice. I couldn’t deny that the voice sounded familiar as well.
“And why the hell is that any of your damn business… Aristide?” She quickly spun around, but the words instantly got shoved down her throat. The last word stumbled out in a mutter as she surprisingly glanced at the guy who resembled Alessandro, Lucas, and of course, that wicked woman, Serena.
Merely remembering that demon’s name causes my gut to burn bitterly with pure resentment.
I noticed the surprised look on her face vanishing, replaced by hatred as she glanced at Aristide. I guess that was the name of the guy who resembled that demon. “What are you people doing here?” she asked, suspiciously eyeing them up.
The strange aura in the air was suffocating that I didn’t even notice when the other curious vampires in the hallway fled away. And as they drew closer, my gaze locked with Aristide’s. I saw the smile on his face vanish instantly, and for the first time, his eyes turned cold as he took in the situation in front of him.
“This is just a hallway, Sofia,” Serena replied, and I noticed the two women snarling at each other.
Really?
“What’s happening here?” Aristide asked, his gaze still fixed on me. “Sofia…!” He then turned to her, demanding an explanation.
Glaring at him, she flashes him a taunting smile. “Having some fun? Would you like to join me?”
“Sofia,” he snapped, his voice filled with frustration, confusing me and as well those other two standing right beside him.
“What?” She arched a brow, her long lashes blinking innocently at him, but within her eyes, there was a swirling mix of hatred and mockery.
“Enough!” I heard Lucas suddenly interrupt, putting an end to the escalating scene between Sofia and Aristide. “Please, calm down,” he said, turning to Aristide and gently patting his shoulder. However, I couldn’t help but notice the suspicious look on Lucas’ face as he glanced at me and then back at Aristide.
Turning around, Sofia smirks at me as she mutters in a low tone. “See you around, dog!” she says, running her eyes all over my body from my head to my toes, trying to intimidate me. Well, I couldn’t help but smirk back at her, infuriating her and taking her by surprise.
She seemed taken aback by her futile attempt to intimidate me. “Sofia…!” She groaned, hissing in anger before she abruptly walked away, ignoring them.
And there I was, left alone with those three who seemed to have popped out of nowhere. But just when I thought I had seen it all, I heard someone scream my name from behind. “Emma…!!”
