Chapter 15

Her words hung in the air, suffocating me. I was barely able to make meaning of her words. Her eyes glistened with pure joy as she waited for me to speak. What? A maid
My heart pounded in my chest as I tried to understand what she had just said.
Silas had turned me into a maid, clearly out of anger.
Was this some sort of punishment? Another way to humiliate me after I had stepped away from his touch?
He had placed me in the lowest rank, even with the knowledge of just how well the people here hated me Maybe that was why he did it.
Did he see the terror in my eyes and get reminded of my father so bad he decided to push me down to the lowest?
Previously, I was able to keep my head high when walking amongst them because Silas gave me that amount of authority
But now I wouldn't be able to look them in the eye.
now.
"Are you listening to me? Hurry up and get dressed; we have to start preparing for dinner. The woman snapped her fingers at my face, and I raised my eyes to look at her. Her expression remained indifferent as she stared at me but I knew she was bubbling with joy right What do I do? How can I just take whatever they threw at me! But I didn't have a choice in any of this
I stood frozen at the same spot, the towel clutched the title around my frame. The clothes she handed me hung limply in
After everything Silas had done kidnapping me, forcing me into this marriage, humiliating me in front of his men, and letting them do whatever they wanted.
He was going to do this now!
"Does he expect me to?" I started to say, but she cut me off with a glare.
"Whether you like it or not princess. The word princess rolled off her tongue with malice, her impatient glare pinning me down. "You were not given a choice to accept or refuse the offer. Don Silas expects you to do this. So get dressed,"
I blinked, stunned. I hadn't expected this. I never did. I wasn't aware of what Silas was shopping to prove, but one thing was clear. I wasn't going to let him break me.
Silently. I turned around and shut the door. The clothes a white shirt and black skirt stared at me mockingly. It felt foreign as I slipped it on, the harshness of the material biting into my skin.
I tied my long hair back, my movements slow as I tried to figure out what would be my next move.
But for now, I had no choice but to play along with Silas.
"I can't believe I'm doing this," I whispered to myself, taking in my appearance. I almost didn't recognize the person staring
at me.
My eyes were a dull green; they seemed to have lost their shine in the weeks I had spent in this place. I had eye bags under each eye to show just how tired I was. They were just there, Framed by a pale skin that almost made me look sickly.

It was obvious that I hadn't heen eating well in this house.

I looked shabby. Even my father never subjected me to such treatment.
Sighing. I turned around and left, pulling the door open. The woman gave me a once-over and nodded approvingly.
"Good, follow me," She spun on her heels and I trailed behind her down the lang halls.
"Where are we going?" Lasked her as we marched along lant she ignored me.
"From now on, you would address me as Madam 'cause I am your superior. Nothing else, nothing in between," she said without turning to look at me.
I wonder how happy she must be to be able to tell me that.
We were just about to walk past the living room when I paused in my tracks, taking a step back
Silas sat amongst the men, all of them laughing at something that was said. Seeing him laugh after he had done something like this made my blood boil. Something twisted in my chest-betrayal, anger, I couldn't tell. But I couldn't stay silent. Without thinking much. I stormed up to him
Every eye in the room turned to me, burning their stares into my body but I didn't care. My heart raced in my chest but I couldn't back down now.
"What is the meaning of this? I hissed, staring down at him. I was given a height advantage because he was sitting,
My hands were trembling, but I clenched then into a fist. I couldn't risk breaking in front of him.
The smile on Silas' face instantly wiped out and it was replaced with something more sinister.
"Katrina" "Madam' hissed my name, walking to meet me.
The other men had stopped laughing and they were staring at us with anger.
"What, pray, are you doing Silas asked, the bein in his forehead popping
It seemed as if it was taking everything in him to control his anger. But I didn't have to control mine.
I had interrupted a bunch of mafia men and I wasn't sorry about it.
"Who is this, Don Silas?" One of the men asked and I turned to him before Silas could speak.
Tm his wife,
My reply seemed to bring shock to their faces, and then I realized that they weren't part of Silas' mafia.
It seemed as though he hadn't told anyone that he had gotten married to anyone.
"So this is simply a dispute between married couples," one of the men laughed and the others followed.
Madam Rachael, do you need to learn how to take care of one of your charges?" Silas asked Madam, his cold eyes falling on her
She shook her head violently, stepping towards me.
Oh, so she was afraid of him?
"But I would say she does look familiar. Is she, by any chance, Marcos' daughter?" A middle-aged man asked with interest.
and I turned to him.
So he knew my father.
Iraked his features for any form of familiarity but I came short of any
"Have your hatred for Marcos dwindled since the last time we et Silas?" He asked Silas, still keeping his eyes on me.
Silas response came in the form of a growl and the man laughed
I didn't like where he was going with this. His beady eyes are lustfully raking over my features. He pushed up from where he sat, stepping closer to me as he stared at me.
The clothes I wore were shabby but he still managed to peel then off me with his eyes.
Having him look at me that way made me shudder and I took a step back.
"Don Silas, it's not often I ask for favors. But I'd love to add her to my collection, His eyes glistened with pure evil, and he took another step towards me, reaching out to me like he already owned me,
I instantly took another step back, looking at Silas with a bewildered look.
Silas stared at me with a blank look on his face, giving no reaction at all. His body was relaxed against the chair and he took a drag from the tobacco roll between his fingers.
My breath hitched. The air in the room seemed to thicken and couldn't breathe. The smell of tobacco thickened in and I was reminded that I hadn't used my inhaler in a long time,
the air.
1 could feel different pairs of eyes pressing down on me and it felt like I was suffocating. I wasn't sure if the feeling was due to the smoke or how uneasy I was, but all I knew was that I needed to get the hell out of that place. Isn't he going to say anything? He had killed a man just for kissing me, he even said he was going to
Would Silas give me out to this man? His silence terrified me.
Isn't it time for him to do something about this?
to kill whoever I ki
kissed.
When my eyes met with Silas', his eyes were cold and unreadable No flicker of the rage 1 had seen earlier. He wasn't going to
stop this.
Is silence louder than any answer? The cold realization crept up my spine.
At that moment, I instantly knew I was fucked.
