The Cursed Wolf’s Love

My life isn’t theirs

Queen Lucia got the news of Adolphus’s return. What she later found shocked her more. He brought Iris with her and even announced to marry her. It escalated her anger and she decided to see Adolphus.

“Your Majesty, the Crown Prince is with the King,” the maidservant replied.

Lucia decided to go there and find out what was exactly going on inside her son’s head. She reached the King’s chamber and heard Adolphus say that he would uplift his curse on the Blood Moon Day.

“How will you do that? Last time you narrowly escaped that deadly attack. Do you have any idea what you are up to?” Lucia questioned her son when Xavier asked her to calm down.

“Your Majesty, I’m calm and composed,” Lucia then gazed at her husband and walked to him. “I heard Adolphus proposed to marry Iris. Is this true?” she glanced at her son.

“Yes, it is true,” Adolphus pronounced.

“Why can’t the Crown Prince see what’s right for him?” Lucia queried.

“And what have Father and Mother thought for me? How do they know what’s right for me? My life isn’t theirs. I can make the decisions of my life, especially when it comes to my marriage. I’ll marry Iris Vinsant and that’s what you both have to accept as well,” Adolphus proclaimed as his eyes shone green in determination.

Lucia was worried seeing this side of her son. “Parents always want the good for their kids. I want you to marry a woman of our own kind, then it will only benefit you. Love happens a second time too. Also, you are only attracted to Iris. I won’t deny how beautiful she is!” Lucia tried making Adolphus understand and gazed at the King.

“Your mother is right, Adolphus. We agree your life is yours. But as your parents, we can at least make good decisions for you. Love makes you blind sometimes. Lust and attraction destroy a person. You have those two feelings for Iris than love. So, don’t argue over this, Adolphus, and do what we want for your betterment,” Xavier elaborated to his son.

Adolphus smiled to hear the lessons from his father. “Thank you for telling me what love is and how I do not see the difference between lust, attraction, and love. What if Iris turns out to be my mate if my curse uplifts? How will I live then? I never felt helpless in my life. But yesterday I was helpless and heartbroken when Father sent those petty werewolves to kill Iris. I never expected this from my once ideal,” Adolphus blurted out his anger and frustration at them.

Lucia shook her head and told Adolphus not to think wrong about them. “Iris crossed her limits by eyeing a prince, a werewolf, an alpha who will be the next King. What if she doesn’t appear to be your mate? Will you survive happily then? You claim to love Iris, but once the curse uplifts what if you get a different mate?” Lucia asked.

“I know it’s Iris. Please let me live happily,” Adolphus stated. “I will marry Iris either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,” he added and pivoted on his boots to leave.

Iris was strolling in the chamber, waiting nervously for Adolphus. Her heart was pounding with concern and she kept looking toward the door for Adolphus to enter.

“Did I do right? How are we going to fight for our love?” Iris mumbled and fidgeted with her fingers. “I have never fought with anyone before. The Crown Prince gave me the strength to speak up. I should trust my love for him and stay by his side. That’s all I can do for now,” she told herself and joined her both hands to pray.

Iris recited the prayer to Fairy Godmother, asking her to give her strength and make them marry without any difficulties.

As she opened her eyes and lowered her hands, Adolphus entered the chamber with a grim expression on his face.

“Your Grace, how did the conversation go?” Iris asked and walked up to him.

Adolphus tightly wrapped his arms around her. No words were exchanged between them. “Iris, I love you. I know you are my mate. I don’t understand why my parents fail to see that,” he stated as he pulled away and peered into her eyes.

Iris could notice the pain in his eyes and felt he was quite troubled. “Is there no way that I can be a werewolf?” she asked.

“It’s not good to be a werewolf, Iris. The transformation causes a lot of pain. Also, you don’t have to be a werewolf to be with me,” Adolphus explained.

“Your Grace, if I become a werewolf, perhaps your parents don’t refuse,” Iris opined.

Adolphus shook his head. “They will eventually agree. I don’t think Father and Mother will be happy to see me suffer. They should know their son is deeply in love with a human, a woman which he always desired,” he asserted.

Iris was touched by his statement and placed her hand on his cheek. “I don’t want to see the Crown Prince battling everyone for us. I would like to have a conversation with the King and the Queen. Please help me have this conversation,” she requested.

“What do you want to talk to them? If they would say you something, I may lose my temper,” Adolphus proclaimed.

“Your Grace, they are the King and the Queen alongside parents. Many may question them that’s why they are adamant about not approving our relationship,” Iris opined.

Adolphus shook his head. “Iris, my father sent men to kill you. He is the King and he can change the rule as well. But he chose to take the life of the woman whom I loved,” he proclaimed and lowered her hand.

He kissed Iris’s knuckles and continued, “Don’t talk to them. Because they won’t listen to you either, but only humiliate you. Your insult will result in my insult and my anger is pretty bad. I don’t want to show you my worst side when I get angry.”

Iris gave an understanding nod and wondered if there was no way she could help Adolphus in this matter.
