Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Aurelia shivered, feeling the icy intimidation pouring from the man. His gaze could freeze her solid.
“Mr. Leopold, I wouldn’t dare to challenge you.” She said, “I’m just following our agreement. Once I give
birth and hand over the child to you, isn’t that it? The rest is my personal freedom.”
Leopold sucked in a breath through gritted teeth, “Are you still holding out hope for Arnold?”
Aurelia quickly shook her head, rattling it like a bobblehead doll, “Rest assured, I have no illusions
about you high–society types. After this, I’ll find a man in my own league to marry, neither above nor
below my station!” Leopold raised an eyebrow, and a hint of mockery appeared in his eyes. Who was
the one who had thrown herself at him, using every trick in the book to seduce him? Given her greedy
nature, she couldn’t possibly not be angling to climb the social ladder. “Whatever you’re planning, you
must stay away from anyone from the Stirling family.” He ordered.
Aurelia had a rebellious spirit, unafraid of authority. But she wasn’t a fool, she wouldn’t bang her head
against a brick wall. She was the egg, and he was the diamond. She knew she couldn’t win.
“I understand what you’re saying. To keep the marriage and pregnancy a secret. Don’t worry. I’ll keep
my mouth shut, not revealing a word to anyone. If I can’t hide the pregnancy, I’ll just invent a
convenient father for the child. No one will think it’s yours.” Aurelia said.
Leopold choked, what kind of nonsense was this? The child’s lineage was unquestionable. “I will
handle the rest. Don’t get ahead of yourself.” He said.
Aurelia made a face at him, “Mr. Leopold, you should spend more time with your fiancée, and soothe
her. She’s the one in the know. As long as she stops being paranoid and pestering me, who else would
suspect a single woman like me of being pregnant?”
Leopold gave her a dark look, his eyes deep and unfathomable, “I’ll take care of Elowen. What you
need to do is remember my restriction.”
Aurelia had long since dismissed his words. One ear in and the other out. She had the right to make
friends,
and he couldn’t control her!
“I’m tired, I need to go home and rest.” She said, and slipped out of his grasp.
The next morning, Aurelia received a call from her mother. Her brother had suffered liver damage due
to medication side effects and needed money for treatment. She had to withdraw another ten thousand
from
her account.
Upon arriving at the company, she received a notice from the Personnel Department. She had been
promoted to Manager of the Design Department, on par with Kelly.
This surprising news made her feel overwhelmed. She had thought the big boss would demote her for
lying. But instead, she got a promotion.
In the office, the least pleased was Kelly naturally.
As soon as Aurelia sat down, Kelly started, “Aurelia, you bled a lot that day. Everyone thought you had
miscarried.”
Aurelia saw right through Kelly’s attempt to stir up trouble, and scoffed, “I’m a single woman, what
miscarriage are you talking about? In this day and age, it’s easy to start rumors but hard to refute
them.”
Kelly’s lips twitched, “Just a joke, don’t mind. Congratulations on your promotion. Didn’t expect you and
the
big boss to be so close. You were the center of attention at the celebration
This was clearly a veiled accusation that Aurelia had a relationship with the boss, and that was how the
got the manager position.
Aurelia frowned, her expression serious, “That day I was injured, and the big boss saved me in time.
Otherwise, I might have lost my leg. He cares for his employees, and treats us like family. We should
be grateful for having such a good boss, shouldn’t we?”
She raised her voice, “Yet, there are people who are dark–hearted and illHintentioned, spreading
rumors and slandering behind our backs. How can you live with yourselves?”
Her voice was loud enough for the Design Department and other departments to hear. She wanted to
break the rumors by bravely confronting them. The more she tried to hide, the more she was
suspected
Kelly’s face turned pale as she ground her teeth in anger. She wanted to see how long Aurelia could
stay smug.
Soon, Kevin reported this to Leopold. “It seems Ms. Aurelia has handled the gossip about you two quite
well.” He said.
Leopold smirked. He had firsthand experience of Aurelia’s silver tongue. She could certainly hold her
own Kevin lowered his voice, “This morning, Ms. Aurelia withdrew another ten thousand from her
account” Leopold’s smile faded, and replaced by a mocking look. According to Laura, Aurelia was very
frugal She never shopped or bought online except for bargain websites. Where had twenty thousand in
a month gone? Was she secretly transferring it to her own account? Not only greedy but a miser as
well?
