Chapter 1427
Calvin helped Hanna put on the earrings. He looked at the woman in front of him and thought her face was not very impressive at first glance but it got more and more as he kept looking at it.
Calvin asked, “Is everything done?”
The makeup artist said, “Except for the shoes.” The makeup artist’s assistant quickly picked up the shoes, ready to help Hanna put them on.
Taking the shoes from the assistant, Calvin said, “Let me do it.” Then he squatted down in front of Hanna.
“I… I can do it myself,” said Hanna.
Calvin slightly looked up and said, “Let me help you. It’ll be more easy.”
Hanna was sitting in a chair while Calvin was squatting in front of her. Calvin lowered his head and helped Hanna put on the shoes. Hanna felt like she was Cinderella and Calvin was the prince.
Hanna thought, “Yeah. Everyone else must think I am Cinderella who is lucky to be loved by the prince.”
When both shoes were put on, Calvin said, “Walk around to see if they fit well.”
Hanna stood up. She took a few steps forward and said, “Not bad. But the heels are a little too high. I feel like I am going to lose balance.”
Calvin said, “Then hold my arm and you won’t fall.”
Hanna bit her lips and nodded slightly.
Calvin stretched out his hand and took Hanna’s hand. “Well, it’s almost time. Let’s go.”
Hanna followed Calvin into the car. Calvin said, “Why are your palms so sweaty and hot?”
Hanna said, “No… It’s just… Ms. Stapleton and her friends came in and I… I was scared so…” Hanna lowered her head a little feeling embarrassed.
Calvin thought for a while and said, “Sorry I failed to protect you.”
As Calvin spoke, he took out his handkerchief and gently wiped the sweat from Hanna’s hands.
Calvin’s movement was still so gentle.
Hanna hesitated for a moment and asked, “Did I disappoint you?”
Calvin said, “No, I think you are much tougher and stronger than I thought. You wouldn’t let them bully you even if I was not there. Next time, if anyone says something rude to you or wants to do something bad to you, scare them with my name.
Hanna asked, “Did you hear it?” She felt even more embarrassed. She didn’t expect Calvin had seen how she pretended to be aggressive.
Calvin said, “Yes. I heard you told them that I loved you.”
Hanna kept lowering her head. “It was just bullshit. I hope you don’t mind it.”
“Why would I mind it? On the contrary, I wish I fall in love with you as soon as possible.” Calvin said, “Next time, tell them that I will make people who hurt you pay it back.”
Hanna was stunned. She looked up and stared at Calvin blankly.
Calvin continued, “If you dare to say it, not many people in Strico dare to touch you.”
Instead of feeling relieved, Hanna felt her heart sinking. She knew that Calvin wanted to help her but it meant that Hanna had to keep lying in front of others.
To Calvin, it was not necessarily a bad thing if lies could protect her.
Slowly, Hanna withdrew her hand. “Thank you.”
Looking at his empty hand, Calvin felt strangely upset.
The car stopped at the entrance of the charity gala. When Hanna and Calvin got out of the car, flashes of cameras immediately blinded Hanna. She subconsciously wanted to dodge.
“Don’t be scared.” Calvin said, “It’s just some routine work. But don’t worry. Those photos will not be posted online.”
Hanna calmed down a little. She knew Calvin was definitely capable of that.
Calvin continued, “Don’t look at the cameras. If you still feel nervous, just look at me.”
Hanna was slowly relaxed.
Hanna stammered, “Okay, I, see.” She looked at Calvin, who was standing beside her. She felt she was not nervous anymore and much more relaxed.
Holding Calvin’s arm, Hanna walked beside Calvin slowly into the hall.
There were also some reporters with cameras inside the hall, they were much less than those outside. And as Calvin told Hanna before, no reporter came to Hanna and asked if he could interview her.
Hanna looked around curiously. As expected, she saw celebrities and big shots in the industry, as well as the most famous male and female stars.
Hanna noticed that these famous and powerful people were looking her up and down, often with envy, mockery, or unfriendly interest.
Suddenly, Hanna caught a glimpse of Queena, who was wearing Haute Couture. Hanna stiffened.
After all, they had an unpleasant encounter not long ago.
Apparently, Queena also noticed Hanna too. She looked disdainful and calculating. Soon, she turned around and walked further away from Hanna.
Calvin seemed to have noticed that something was wrong so he asked, “Anything wrong?”
Hanna smiled, “Nothing.”
Suddenly, Hanna heard a voice. “What a surprise! I remember you once said that you were not interested in this kind of charity gala. I thought you wouldn’t come.” Hanna looked around and saw a familiar figure coming toward her.
It was Alan Yates!
Hanna recognized him at once. Calvin introduced him to Hanna before. He was a friend of Calvin’s since childhood.
Hanna looked at Calvin in surprise. “You didn’t plan to be here at first?!”
Calvin said calmly, “No, but I knew you wanted to be here I decided to come with you.”
Hanna was a bit stunned. She was surprised that Calvin came here only
Alan walked up to them and greeted Hanna. “Hanna, how are you? You have changed a lot since the last time I saw you. You are so beautiful today.”
Hanna blushed slightly and said politely, “Thank you.”
Alan smiled, “After tonight, everyone in the entertainment industry will start to curry favor with you.”
