Chapter 723 Despicable Mistress
Tatiana was scared to the point of crying loudly, curling her petite figure up in Lily's arms, not daring to move or even look into Cayden's eyes.
The little girl was trembling, burrowing into her grandmother's arms, crying a river of tears and snot. The sight was enough to break Lily's heart.
Lily wore a gloomy expression, subtly casting a glance at Cayden. She indirectly scolded him, saying, “What a jinx you are! You just got back, and you've already scared my sweet granddaughter to tears. It would have been better if you hadn't returned at all!”
Upon hearing that, Allie was not pleased. Isn't it obvious that Lily is deliberately belittling my son? How can I tolerate her being such a killjoy?
Allie slammed her fork onto the dining table with a huff. Her sharp voice rang out. “Why are you blaming others for your granddaughter's timidity? You've spoiled her like a princess all this time, but she's not a real princess, so cut the pretentious act. When she grows up, won't she just be a liability?”
The veiled criticisms she made left Rachel feeling extremely uncomfortable after hearing them.
No matter what the relationship between her mother-in-law and the stepmother was, Tatiana was, after all, her child.
Naturally, she couldn't stand others belittling her daughter, so she immediately backed up her mother- in-law, Lily. “What's it to you how I raise my daughter? No one asked for your two cents. Tatiana is our little princess, and we love to spoil her. So what? You're not exactly young anymore. Mind your own manners!”
Rachel's mockery infuriated Allie.
Her eyes widened in anger as she glared fiercely at Rachel. “What did you say? How have I lost my manners? You, a younger generation of the family, dare criticize your elders? Don't you have any sense of decency or shame? You're always dressed up flamboyantly, like a provocative peacock. With such indecency, I'm sure you'll bring disgrace to the Moore family sooner or later.”
“Allie, what did you just say? Don't think that just because your son is back, you can do whatever you want. Let me tell you, as long as I, Lily, am in the Moore family, you will always be a shameful mistress, understand?” Lily abruptly stood up from her chair, thrusting the still-crying Tatiana into her daughter-in- law's arms, and began to berate Allie.
“Lily, you're insane! Why are you blaming others for your own incompetence? I bet you're destined to be a bitter woman all your life!” Allie wished she could tear Lily's annoying mouth into pieces.
The greatest humiliation of her life was becoming Bruce's lover. But even so, she had no regrets.
Otherwise, how would she get to enjoy that kind of luxurious and wealthy lifestyle she was living today?
Yet, she simply couldn't bear to be called a mistress by others, especially when that word sprang from Lily's mouth. It felt like the most embarrassing element of her life was being exposed, leaving her both embarrassed and furious.
If it weren't for the fact that her son had just returned, she would definitely have picked a fight with Lily.
Avery, listening to them start their infighting again, could only feel a sense of helplessness.
Due to the rule set by Jeffrey, on the fifteenth of every month, the entire family must gather for a meal, ostensibly a display of heeding the Moore family's teaching. However, every time, Lily and Allie would
end up in a quarrel, always resulting in an unhappy parting.
Alina looked at the chaotic scene in the Moore family, stirred up by two women. Already frustrated, she found herself even less able to eat.
She hadn't expected that the Moore family would be in such a state. It's a good thing that my niece didn't live with them in the Moore residence. Otherwise, even the most patient person would be driven to illness by their antics.
The twins calmly continued eating the food in their bowls. It was clear that they were used to such situations, completely undisturbed. However, deep down, they were already feeling discontent.
Chewing on a piece of food, Rory turned to look at Zachary and uttered displeasingly, “Zach, I want to move in with Mommy and Daddy. I don't want to stay in the Moore residence anymore... Grandma Lily and Grandma Allie argue all day. Haven't they grown tired after all these years? Watching them argue every day is so exhausting...”
Zachary served his sister a crab, carefully peeled it, and placed the tender meat into her small bowl. “We'll discuss this matter with our parents later.”
The two children exchanged a glance, silently agreeing that once they were a bit older, they would definitely move in with their mother and father. Or, even if it meant becoming boarding students at school, they would never return to the Moore residence.
Cayden, with a cold and handsome face, looked at the chaotic scene around him, feeling utterly annoyed.
He hadn't expected this home to be still so unsettled. If it weren't for his grandfather and children, he reckoned he would never set foot in the Moore residence again in his lifetime.
No longer in the mood to eat, Cayden directly pulled Avery away, saying, “Grandpa, Avery and I are full. We have something to attend to, so we're leaving early. We're also taking Zach and Rory with us. You guys take your time eating...”
He waved at the twins, and the two kids immediately dropped their utensils, scampering along behind them.
The couple, each holding a child's hand, departed one after the other.
“Hey, Cayden, where are you off to just after coming back? Is there something more important than spending time with your grandfather? Come back...”
Jeffrey was anxious to give chase, but he was already too weak to do so.
Watching his eldest grandson's family leave right before his eyes, the old man's eyes turned red with anxiety. Seeing his two daughters-in-law still arguing, he shouted in anger, “Enough! Everyone shut up!”
Jeffrey was so infuriated by them that he nearly had a heart attack.
He fiercely pounded the ground with his cane. If it weren't for the fact that they were women, he would have already used the cane on them.
Suppressing the vein popping on his forehead, Jeffrey bellowed with ragged breaths, “Both of you are grandmothers now, yet you're still squabbling in front of the younger generation. Aren't you ashamed? Whoever continues this ruckus will be immediately thrown out of the Moore family!”
The roar of Jeffrey was full of vigor, his cane sweeping the bowl of soup at the edge right onto the floor.
The exquisite blue and white porcelain bowl suddenly shattered into pieces, causing the soup to splatter all over the floor. The commotion instantly silenced the two quarreling women, who obediently took their seats.
Even Tatiana was frightened into silence, huddling in Rachel's arms.
With her teary, jet-black eyes wide open, she secretly glanced at her furious grandfather, not daring to breathe a word.
A family conflict sparked by a child had thus come to a close.
Kendrick had long been numb to this. He sneered. After all, he had never experienced any happiness since childhood. His marriage was even more of a mess. He had long lost any feelings for this so- called home.
The only daughter he truly loved, Tatiana, had also been spoiled by his mother and wife. His disappointment in this family was only growing by the day...
