MISTAKE 191
Chapter 191: Reuniting.
Anya sat nervously beside her mother Stella’s hospital bed. Just hours ago, Stella had suddenly regained consciousness after being in a coma for a long time. It was a miracle, but also an extremely emotional moment, as their long–lost sister Emma had rushed into the room, tears streaming down her face.
“Mom? Is that really you?” Emma said, her voice trembling. Stella looked up at her, eyes wide
with disbelief and relief.
“Emma…” Stella breathed, reaching out a shaky band. In an instant, mother and daughter embraced, overcome with emotion. Anya watched, a bittersweet smile on her face. Their family was finally reunited after so many years.
When they finally pulled apart, Emma looked confused. “What happened? Anya told me you were… dead,” she said, her brow furrowed.
Anya stepped forward and placed a gentle hand on Emma’s arm. “There’s a lot to explain, Emma. Please, sit down,” she said. Emma nodded and perched on the edge of the bed as Anya began to recount the events.
“When you disappeared all those years ago, it devastated Mom. She never gave up hope of finding you. Then, Dad went missing too, trying to track you down,” Anya explained.
Emma’s eyes widened in horror. “So you thought I was gone, and Mom was dead?” She turned to Stella, anguish on her face. “I’m so sorry, Mom. If I’d known, I would have come back, I promise!”
Stella pulled Emma into another tight embrace, comforting her. “Shh, my darling. None of this was your fault. You’ve been through so much…” she said softly, rocking her gently as Emma’s shoulders shook with sobs.
Anya watched the heartbreaking reunion, feeling a mix of relief and sorrow. Their family!! endured so much pain and loss, but now they were finally together again.
Suddenly, Anya’s phone buzzed in her pocket. Excusing herself, she stepped out into the hallway to take the call. “Hello?”
“Anya.” The voice on the other end was cold and unfamiliar. “This is your grandmother.”
Anya felt her heart skip a beat. Her father’s mother the woman who had turned her back on their family when their father went missing. “What do you want?” Anya asked, her voice laced. with suspicion.
“I think it’s time we had a little chat,” the woman replied, her tone ominous. “I have some information about your father that you might be interested in.”
Anya frowned, unsure of why this woman was reaching out now, after all these years. “I don’t
want anything to do with you,” she said firmly. “You made it clear where your loyalties lie when you abandoned us.”
“Suit yourself,” the woman said coolly. “But if you want to know what happened to your father, you know where to find me.”
The line went dead, leaving Anya staring at her phone, a sense of dread coiling in the pit of her stomach. She knew she should tell Stella and Emma about the call, but part of her didn’t want to stir up the painful past again.
Taking a deep breath, Anya pushed open the hospital room door, bracing herself for the inevitable confrontation. Stella looked up as she entered, her brow furrowing with concern. Who was that on the phone, dear?” she asked gently.
Anya hesitated for a moment, then sighed. “It was… Grandmother. Dad’s mother,” she said.
Stella’s eyes widened in shock, then narrowed with a flash of anger. “That woman? After all these years, she dares to contact us?” she hissed. Emma reached out and placed a calming hand on Stella’s arm.
“What did she want?” Emma asked, her voice tinged with trepidation.
Anya met her sister’s gaze, her own expression grave. “She said she has information about what happened to Dad,” she said.
The room fell silent, the weight of those words hanging heavy in the air. Stella’s jaw was set, ⚫her eyes glinting with a mixture of fury and apprehension. Emma reached out and took Anya’s
hand, squeezing it tightly.
We don’t owe her anything,” Stella said firmly. “After what she and the rest of that family did to us, I want nothing to do with them.”
“I agree,” Anya said quickly. “I told her as much. I have no intention of reaching out to her, no matter what she claims to know.”
Stella nodded, some of the tension leaving her shoulders. “Good. The three of us have been through enough without dredging up the past again.” She reached out and pulled both her daughters into a fierce embrace. “All that matters now is that we’re together. That’s all I need.
Emma and Anya returned the hug, their own fears and anxieties momentarily set aside. In this moment, they were simply a family reunited, basking in the warmth of each other’s presence. But the specter of their father’s disappearance and the machinations of his family still loomed, a dark cloud on the horizon.
As they pulled apart, Anya could see the determination in Stella’s eyes. “We’re not going to let them hurt us again,” Stella said, her voice steady. “Whatever happens, we’ll face it together. As a family.”
Emma and Anya nodded in silent agreement. They had lost so much, but now, with Stella
awake and their family whole once more, they had a chance to heal and move forward. Whatever challenges lay ahead, they would confront them side by side, united in their love and resilience.
The three women sat together, their hearts heavy with the weight of the past, but also brimming with hope for the future. They had been through so much, but now, in this moment, they knew that they had each other. And that was the most precious thing of all
James Grey strode purposefully down the sterile hospital corridor, his footsteps echoing against the linoleum floors. He was a man on a mission to confront the one person he believed was responsible for the suffering his family had endured.
Reaching a door labeled “Ward C“, James pushed it open and stepped inside. There, lying in the bed, was Stella’s mother Old Madam Jones The elderly woman’s eyes widened in shock when she saw him.
“James…” she breathed, the heart monitor next to her bed suddenly beeping faster as her pulse raced.
James fixed the terrified woman with a cold, unwavering stare as he pulled up a chair and sat down beside her bed. “Hello, Mother,” he said, his voice dripping with controlled fury. Surprised to see
me?”
Old Madam Jones trembled, her frail hands clutching the bedsheets. “But… you’re supposed to be dead,” she stammered.
–
James leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. “That’s where you’re wrong,” he said. “I was never dead. And I know the truth, Mother I know you helped my enemies find Emma all those
years ago.
The old woman’s face paled, her eyes darting around the room as if searching for an escape. 1… I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she lied, her voice quavering.
“Don’t play dumb with me,” James growled. “I know you betrayed your own daughter to keep our family together. You handed Emma over to those who took her from us.” He shook his head, a humorless laugh escaping his lips. “And look where that’s left us.”
Old Madam Jones could see the rage burning in James‘ eyes, and she knew there was no use denying it any longer. “I’m… I’m sorry,” she whimpered, her frail body trembling. “I was so afraid, James. I thought if I cooperated, they wouldn’t hurt any of you…”
my daughter, my wife… my very “Hurt us?” James scoffed. “They took everything from us – life.” He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a menacing growl. “And now, I’m going to make them pay. Starting with you.”
The old woman’s eyes widened in terror, her heart monitor beeping frantically. “No, please…” she begged, but James had already risen from his chair, towering over her.
