The Beauty and the Brain

Chapter 214

Chapter 214

Dennis looked at Marie, feeling somewhat angry, but his eyes still showed a hint of affection. “Why did

you

come to the shooting range?” He asked.

Marie rolled her eyes and said, “The weather’s good. I came out for a walk.”

Dennis looked at her helplessly, “You made such a big detour from the clinic just to take a walk in the

shooting range?”

Marie smiled and looked pleased, like a cat that had gotten ahold of a treat. “No! I’m here to see

Clayton,” she

said as she pulled on Dennis’ shirt.

Dennis was shocked. “Why are you looking for him?” He asked.

Clayton looked at her in surprise. Marie chuckled and replied, “To tell him we’re leaving and that he’s

treating

us to dinner! Isn’t that right, Clayton?”

Clayton looked at Dennis awkwardly and nodded, “Well, yeah. We haven’t eaten together for a long

time. Why

not do so today?”

Dennis looked at Marie. She looked at him pleadingly, playing cute as she tugged on the corner of his

shirt

and swayed back and forth. It was as if she was about to throw herself into his arms.

Dennis looked at her helplessly and rubbed his temples before nodding. “Fine,” he agreed dryly.

Although it was a curt response, Clayton was overjoyed. His usual stern self exclaimed happily, “I’ll go

get

Gavin! Let’s all go together!”

Dennis nodded, still not looking at him. Clayton immediately left the shooting range and headed to the

clinic.

Flicking Marie’s forehead, Dennis asked, “Did you come here to play the peacemaker?”

Marie rubbed her forehead and walked closer to Dennis. “Who said I’m trying to mediate? I’m obviously

here

to show off my sharpshooting!” She retorted.

“Help me go back,” Dennis sighed helplessly.

“Okay!” She eagerly helped him walk back, nagging endlessly along the way. Cullen followed, watching

them from behind and thinking, Marie is probably the only person Dennis would dote on.

That evening. Marie helped Dennis go to dinner. They had planned to eat out, but Gavin insisted that

Dennis

couldn’t take any car rides, so they had the meal in Clayton’s room.

When they arrived, Marie helped Dennis sit down. Gavin sat next to Marie and whispered, “I heard you

were the one who encouraged them to make up?”

Marie shook her head solemnly, “No! My Dennis is so big-hearted. He doesn’t need anyone to

persuade him.”

Gavin was speechless.

Dennis is big-hearted? If he is, then no one in this world who holds grudges! He thought sarcastically.

Marie pursed her lips and asked, “What’s wrong? Is he not magnanimous?”

Gavin shook his head.

Marie leaned over to Dennis and immediately complained, “Den-Den! Gavin thinks you’re petty!”

Gavin choked, “What the hell kind of nickname is that?”

With a proud look, Marie boasted, “We’re engaged. I can’t always call him by his full name. That’ll

seem too

distant!”

“Why not Den? Or just Dennis? Isn’t Den-Den too cheesy?”

Gavin stared at Dennis. Would this cold CEO accept a nickname like that?

Dennis took some food for Marie and said, “As long as she likes it.”

Gavin covered his face. It’s over, he thought. Dennis’ aloof image was gone.

Dennis wasn’t just a henpecked husband. He had completely given in to her.

If this was just their engagement, Gavin couldn’t imagine what it’d be like once they were married.

Even if Marie wanted to demolish Whitney Group, Dennis would probably hire a construction team to

assist

her.

“Gavin, why do you keep covering your face?” asked Marie.

Gavin shook his head, not wanting to talk. He just wanted to mourn for Dennis’ lost image.

Dennis quietly remarked, “He’s jealous of me.”

Marie nodded, “I think so too. After all, your fiancé is too sensible.”

“Ahem!” Clayton choked on his wine.

“Clayton, what’s wrong?” Marie asked.

Clayton waved his hand, “Nothing, nothing.”

“Eat. You were complaining that you were hungry earlier, but now you’re not eating,” Dennis

interjected.

Marie frowned as she looked at the pile of food in her bowl. “Den-Den, I can’t eat that much…” She

whined.

“Give some to me. I’ll help you,” Dennis said, pushing his plate over.

Marie happily put the food into his plate, leaving only the meat for herself. She then began eating.

Gavin and Clayton stared as Dennis, who had always been a neat freak, ate the food Marie put on his

plate. They silently glanced at each other and lowered their head to eat.

It seemed more like a banquet for Dennis and Marle than a meal to celebrate Clayton’s reconciliation.

Gavin and Clayton were about to gag at the romance in the room. However, they couldn’t leave as they

were

the ones who arranged this dinner.

Therefore throughout the meal, all they could hear was Marie calling for “Den-Den” non-stop as Dennis

patiently talked to her. Gavin and Clayton pretended not to exist as they watched the couple eat.

Dennis glanced at Clayton and asked, “Are you eating or not?”

Clayton was taken aback when Dennis suddenly spoke to him. Dennis added, “Don’t drink anymore.

There’s

nobody to drink with you.”

Clayton looked at his wine glass. Dennis and Marie were injured and couldn’t drink, and Gavin didn’t

drink

either. He was the only one with a glass of wine.

Dumbfounded, Clayton nodded, “Oh, okay. I won’t drink anymore.”

Looking at Clayton’s silly expression, Marie couldn’t help but chuckle.

Dennis was indeed a person who held grudges, but Clayton was his best buddy. He could never cut off

ties

with Clayton. It was just that Marie had been wronged, so he wanted to avenge her.

However, Marie didn’t feel as if she was wronged. She was happy to have Dennis protect her

wholeheartedly.

Therefore, she was willing to let go of those conflicts and help Dennis and Clayton make up over a

meal.

Although they didn’t drink, the atmosphere had become very lively by the end of the meal.

Dennis and Clayton chatted while Gavin and Marie bickered. It became late before they knew it.

It was only after Gavin said that the two patients needed to rest that Clayton sent them back.

When they arrived at the clinic, Marie and Gavin headed in first. Dennis lagged behind and only walked

in

after Clayton had said something to him.

Gavin leaned over and asked, “Talking behind our backs? What did Clayton say to you?”

Dennis looked at Marie affectionately as he replied, “Clayton said to send him a wedding invitation as

soon

as possible.”

Marie saw the look in Dennis’ eyes and blushed but didn’t say anything.

Gavin smacked his lips and walked over to pat Marie on the shoulder. “Impressive, you snagged

another one!”

He exclaimed.

-With a smug smile, Marie looked at Dennis and said, “I only want this one.”

Gavin covered his face and returned to the office silently, berating himself for being so big-mouthed as

to

chat with the couple.

Marie helped Dennis back to his ward. He stopped her before she could leave and asked, “Where are

you

going?”

Confused, Marie replied, “I’m going back to my room to sleep.”

Dennis raised his eyebrows, “You don’t sleepwalk anymore?”

Marie turned red and scratched her head awkwardly. “Well… sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t,” she

said.

Dennis pulled her back and closed the door. “Don’t sleepwalk tonight. Just sleep here,” he told her.

Marie lowered her head and smiled, following Dennis into the room as she muttered, “Gavin will be

angry

tomorrow…”

“Who cares,” Dennis said dismissively as he removed his jacket. However, his shoulder was injured, so

he

failed to do so even after two tries.

Marie removed his jacket and hung it at the side, saying, “Your wound hasn’t healed yet, so don’t

always try to

do everything yourself.”
