The Babysitter

Chapter 2: You Did What?!

Chapter 2: You Did What?!

Chapter 2: (Aubrey's POV)- You did what?!

"You're a feisty one aren't you?" he stepped away and went into his kitchen, opening the fridge while

looking for something to eat.

"Not usually, no," I mumbled under my breath but he heard me.

"Why? You have fire in you," he stated.

Yeah, he heard me. I walked into the kitchen and sat down on a barstool. "You don't know me." I shook

my head as he pulled out hot Cheetos from his pantry.

"Aubrey Carthy, sixteen years old, you were on the dance team until two years ago, English is your

favorite subject, ace it every time, you get good grades but flunk math, you ride a bicycle around even

though you have a car because you find it fun, you came here three months ago and got drunk for the

first time at my party, you're welcome by the way, your dad works in England, your mom's a nurse with

mine. Your favorite movie? Titanic. Your favorite book? Me before you," he talked nonchalantly while

finding a bowl and emptying the packet in. "Anything else I should know?" he questioned while sliding

the bowl across the counter, over to me. "First boyfriend? Ninth grade. First kiss? Eighth grade. You're

welcome for that too." He winked at me.

That's right, Xavier Parker was my first kiss. In a dumb and stupid game of spin the fucking bottle. It's

the biggest regret of my life.

I laughed humorlessly. I was stunned, impressed, a little creeped out but I expected it from him.

He's in every single one of my classes, he's awfully quiet but knows everything going on around him,

eavesdrops in every conversation, and goes by unnoticed often even though girls have an eye for him.

Something probably just happens to the girls when they're talking shit about people, to me too. How

didn't I notice when he listened?

"My turn?" I questioned. "Xavier Parker, sixteen years old, you were kicked off the football team

because you dyed the coach's hair pink, you get in trouble with every teacher you have and flunk tests

but English just happens to be your cup of tea, you ride a motorcycle, you're as cliche as they come,

your dad's a consultant so he travels, you mom had to hire you a babysitter, you're on house arrest and

I may not know why but I bet it's good. Best friend? Ace Anderson. Enemy? Peter Miller. Should I

continue?" I asked with wit. "Crazy ex? Kylie Lopez. Favorite movie? Iron man. Favorite book? Not

quite sure if you've ever read one." I slid the bowl back over to him, smirking.

"Touche," he laughed while nodding slowly. "Do I have a stalker?" He arched an eyebrow while walking

over to me.

"I don't know, I think I had one first." I stood up looking him dead in the eyes.

"I snatched an officer's gun. That's why I'm on house arrest," he spoke in all seriousness.

"You did what?!" I questioned shocked.

"I had to get away somehow after breaking into the school." He shrugged.

"But now you're here?" I gestured to his ankle monitor with my eyes.

"That's right. Brings you here doesn't it?" he smirked.

"It'll drive me out of here, won't it?" I arched an eyebrow at him.

"You think I'm letting you go?" he smirked while taking steps closer to me while I backed up.

"You think you can make me stay?" I challenged. God, what was I doing?

"You think I can't?" he dared.

"Don't act cute with me." I glared.

"You find it cute," he smirked as he got me trapped between him and the wall by the front door. "Or you

just find me cute." He shrugged softly while placing his hands on the wall, either side of my head.

He stumped me. I had no witty remark to say, no sarcasm flowing in my words. He had me speechless.

The doorbell just happened to save my ass.

"Officer Clarke," he greeted with a smile.

"Aubrey, this is officer Clarke, the officer whose gun I stole," he introduced me casually. "Officer Clarke,

this is Aubrey she's my-"

I cut him off. It was fun embarrassing him, I can't deny that. "Babysitter. I'm his babysitter." I reached

my hand out for officer Clarke to shake.

He gave me an amused smile before shaking it.

I saw Xavier's jaw clench from the corner of my eyes and couldn't help but let out a small laugh.

"Here to check on the monitor," Officer Clarke spoke, letting himself in.

Xavier pulled up his grey jogger's right leg while officer Clarke crouched down and took it off.

He changed some settings on it before clasping it right back on. "What changes did you make?" Xavier

questioned.

"You can go a little further out of your place. Up till the driveway," he gave Xavier a short explanation

with a curt nod.

"Appreciate it." Xavier nodded.

"Be smarter next time. Do something else instead of taking an officer's gun as a runaway plan," he

spoke sarcastically before saying goodbye and driving off.

"So dear Ms. Babysitter," Xavier sighed while closing the door before turning to me. "Do you plan on

staying till my mom gets here?" he questioned.

"Why wouldn't I? It's my job as your babysitter," I teased continuously.

He rolled his eyes before speaking. "I thought you wouldn't stay," he stepped closer.

"I thought you said you could make me," I didn't back up this time, I stood my ground.

"Turns out I don't have to," he smirked before turning around, going into the kitchen, and taking his hot

Cheetos, up to where I assume was his room.

Now I had nothing to do. I wasn't just gonna go up there uninvited and I didn't bring anything with me to

pass my time with. I contemplated leaving but twenty-five bucks were kind of a lot for a babysitting job

and I could use the extra money since I was saving up to get to go to Paris within the next two years.

I've always wanted to go but I didn't want my parents spending money on me while they worked so

hard, so I saved myself. I've taken part-time jobs around town, barista, babysitter, dogsitter, dancing

instructor for little kids, tutor, and I was getting somewhere.

I just decided on calling my best friend since I hadn't spoken to her in a while. She's in Hawaii currently

with her family since the summer holidays started a week ago. "Hey Aubs!" she spoke enthusiastically

into the phone.

"Hey, Vi!" I spoke back.

Violet Blake, my best friend, and partner in crime.

"How's Hawaii treating you?" I questioned while sitting on the couch.

"Great for the most part, guess who I ran into?" she spoke excitedly.

"Who?" I asked, confused and curious.

"Ace Anderson. Weird right?" she questioned, confusion gracing her voice as I heard shuffling in the

background.

"Yeah, really weird," I spoke absentmindedly. I was talking to her but I wasn't present, my mind wasn't. I

was thinking about Xavier. Does his dad know he's on house arrest? His dad visits a few times a year,

randomly and out of the blue. And every time that he's here, this whole house is chaos.

I live a few houses down and whenever I walk by here while there's a black Porsche in the driveway, all

I hear is screaming, yelling, and shouting. It concerned me, it always has but I never thought anything

of it, never did anything about it.

But when I think about his dad finding out that he's on house arrest, it just scares me. His dad is a

short-tempered man. He has a short fuse.

I've bumped into him a few times around town and he starts yelling and shouting at me. He's a scary

man.

I wonder what he'd do if he found out.

"Aubs? You there?" Vi questioned over the phone.
