Chapter 11: (Aubrey's POV)- Did I Just Think That?
My phone dinged numerous times, pulling me out of my slumber. I fished around for it on the nightstand
and finally found it. I opened my eyes, being blinded by the sun and the brightness of my phone.
There were a bunch of texts from Violet and a text from my mom letting me know she's already gone
back to work.
She needs to take a day off, she could use a break.
Then, I opened my chat with Vi. Big mistake.
My phone began going crazy as soon as her messages began popping up and everything was glitching
soon enough. I just stared at my screen monotonously as all the texts she sent loaded. I looked
through them and they all consisted of freaking out and fangirling over Ace at the beach.
Let me correct that, shirtless Ace. I did what anyone would do to piss their best friend off and just
responded with:
'K'
Cruel. I know.
I placed my phone back on the nightstand and stretched in my seat, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes
before letting out a sigh.
I leaned my head against the headboard while closing my eyes and just letting myself wake up when a
door opening made me jump. I caught myself before I fell off the freaking bed and groaned under my
breath before looking in front of me to see Xavier stepping out of his bathroom and into his room with
grey joggers and no shirt as his hair was drenched, suggesting he just showered with a few droplets
sprayed on his chest.
My eyes widened and I turned my gaze down to my lap before getting caught off guard, again.
He looked hot.
Did I just think that?
He snickered before speaking, "Oh, you're up," he stated the obvious. Well yeah, no shit Sherlock.
"Yup. I'm up." I nodded awkwardly. Just staring at the blanket while my finger fiddled with nothing.
"Your mom stopped by, just thought you should know." He sat down in front of me, making it even
harder for me to keep my gaze away.
"Oh. Did she say anything?" I questioned tying my hair as a distraction.
"She dropped by a change of clothes for you for today," he informed me.
"I'll call her and thank her, letting her know I got them." I nodded to myself before reaching out for my
phone but he grabbed it before I could.
"Look at me and then you can," he spoke, a taunting tone in his voice.
"Why do I have to look at you to be able to call my mom?" I looked up but solely into his eyes. I can't let
myself get distracted.
He cleared his throat before continuing. "Because it's exactly what you're avoiding. I wonder why." He
just keeps getting more and more cocky and arrogant, doesn't he?
"Xavier please, just give me my phone." I tried leaning forward to snatch it but he leaned back. Of
course, he did, he's not dumb.
"Try again," he laughed leaning further back and I leaned further forward. He propped his right hand on
his side, holding him up while my phone was far out of my reach in his left.
I leaned back, sighing in so-called defeat to catch him off guard. Before I knew it, I leaned forward and
knocked his right hand off the bed, having him fall back.
Now let me tell you what my plan was. It was for him to fall back and well, get distracted while I got my
phone back. What happened was that he wrapped his left arm around me, not only getting my phone
out of my reach and behind my back but also having me fall. Right on top of him.
"I'm smarter." He winked at me. I rolled my eyes before trying to push myself back up but his grip did
not budge.
"Phone? Please?" I whispered. I swear I would've gone off on him but the proximity just made me
choke.
"M'lady." He handed it over to me.
I gave him a sarcastic smile before taking it and getting off of him, which he finally let me. I began
making my way downstairs to grab the clothes my mom dropped off before heading over to the
bathroom. I waited till she picked up before talking on the phone. "Thank you for dropping off the
clothes," I spoke while walking up the stairs.
"Oh thank Xavier. He asked me to drop them by." She laughed into the phone.
I abruptly stopped in my tracks before re-routing and heading back to his room. I stopped at the door
and gave him an impressed look.
He threw his shirt on before rolling his eyes and smiling.
I then turned back around before saying bye to my mom and hanging up. I went into the guest
bathroom, brushed my teeth, and washed my face while deciding to shower later tonight. I took in the
outfit that was dropped by before thinking of how I'd wear it. It was a plain white sundress. At least my
mom didn't drop any of my embarrassing clothes. There's a whole section for those in my closet.
I changed and threw my hair in a high ponytail which I braided. Fashion kids. Fashion.
I grabbed my clothes from yesterday and folded them, taking them with me back to his room. I walked
in there and saw him lying on his bed, on his phone. "Hey, do you have a bag I can maybe borrow? To
take this back home in?" I lifted my hand with my clothes in them while leaning on the doorframe.
"Yeah, of course. Give me a sec." he stood up and reached the top of his bookshelf, where a gift bag
remained.
"You just collect bags on top of the bookshelf?" I questioned sarcastically while placing my clothes in
the bag.
"Yeah, something like that." He awkwardly chuckled while scratching the back of his neck.
"Right." I nodded.
Then the awkward silence came upon us, like a dark cloud hovering over our heads. Too dramatic? I
think so too.
"Well uh- I'm gonna go and make myself some breakfast," I spoke while turning to leave but his voice
stopped me.
"You don't have to. I made you pancakes." He walked up to me and began walking down the stairs
beside me.
"Why would you make me pancakes?" I questioned as we came up to the counter where I set down my
bag and put my keys inside of it.
"Because." He shrugged while handing me the plate.
"Because. Yeah, that sounds right." I laughed while taking the plate and fork and beginning to eat.
He ate a pancake too while I ate mine. He made me more than one but unfortunately, I had to hand
one back to him. It didn't seem fair for me to hog down pancakes that he made me without giving some
back to him.
"Ice pops?" he offered me some once we finished our pancakes.
Ice pops usually give me a cold. Should I?
"Sure." I took one which I ate slowly. Once we finish our ice pops, we had nothing to do. Nothing. Nada.
"Aubrey?" he called out my name, getting my attention. I hummed in response. "Let's go biking. Your
bike is outside. Let's go biking," he spoke.
I turned to face him with raised eyebrows. "What about your little problem?" I gestured to his ankle
monitor with my eyes.
He nodded before explaining, "I mean you go biking while I'm just there and we can talk," he laughed.
"And you don't think you'll get bored?" I raised my eyebrows in surprise.
He laughed before giving another suggestion. "We could go to the backyard. There's a swing set
there," he suggested.
"Yeah, you have more chances of surviving that," I laughed while standing up before following him into
his backyard. We walked over to the swing set before taking one swing each. It was a wooden swing
set, which creaked as we sat down.
"How old is this thing?" I laughed hesitantly grabbing onto the ropes.
"Old," he laughed. "It's steady and strong. It'll hold," he reassured.
I let out a breath I didn't realize before holding onto the ropes securely. We slowly started swaying back
and forth while making small talk. "So, who made this?" I questioned out of curiosity.
"My dad did. When I was born. Before he went back to his job," he explained while I nodded in
understanding.
"Sucks doesn't it? Not having your dad home?" I could say that because I related.
