Chapter 5: New grounds
Chapter 5: New grounds
Cain was leaning against the car with his arms folded across his chest, impatiently waiting for me, and
he appeared to be irritated. I smiled and laughed internally.
He glared at me while raising a brow. “Are you finished? I would like to get going sometime soon
instead of next year.” He growled.
I rolled my eyes and began walking towards him; I had the sudden urge just to run as fast and as far as
I possibly could. However, that stupid annoying ass voice in my head kept telling me that if I did, it
would be the most foolish mistake of my life.
As I approached the car, to my surprise, Cain opened the car door for me, raising his arm and
motioning for me to enter the vehicle. As I stepped into the car, Cain took my bag and closed the door
after taking my seat.
He got into the car a moment later, started the engine and drove off. I sat there in my seat, feeling
defeated and a little bit broken. I stared at my home that was fading within the distance, where my
loved ones were, wishing I could just run back in there and be with them. My wolf began to pace and
whine in my head, making everything worse.
The drive was unbearable and agonizing; we both remained silent, not uttering a single word to each
other or even sparing a glance. I just continued to sit there, with my head leaning against the window,
watching everything zoom past me. Finally, not able to take this silent torture anymore, I straightened
myself up in my seat and turned towards him.
I sucked in a deep breath. “How much longer till we are there?”
He just sat there, not saying a single word, staring at the road with hyperfocus; both hands were
gripping the steering wheel so tightly, his knuckles were turning white.
I leaned forward a bit. “Hey, did you hear me? I asked how much longer until we are there?” I was
becoming irritated now.
All of a sudden, the car came to an abrupt stop. I lurched forward and then back in my seat, so hard
that I would be surprised if I didn’t have fucking whiplash.
Cain didn’t move or look away from the road; his jaw was clenched tight enough to break teeth, his
nostrils flared, and those green pools were nearly pitch black now.
“What the fuck was that all about?” I hollered.
He slowly turned his head towards me, locking his eyes with mine in a deadly glare; his hands
tightened around the steering wheel even more.
He narrowed his gaze. “For one, what did I tell you about that attitude of yours? Also, who’s scent is
that on you?” He questioned me through gritted teeth.
He must be able to smell Erik on me, but how did he not scent him earlier, or if he did, why didn’t he
say something sooner.
I placed my hand on my chest. “Oh, so sorry, your highness, where are my manners. If I may so
question Alpha, when will we be arriving at our destination, sir?” I said in a sarcastic tone while batting
my eyelashes and plastering a broad cheeky smile across my face.
His expression was less than pleased as the corner of his lip curled up, and a dangerously low snarl
sounded from him.
Cain closed the distance between us. “You’re pushing it; you know that? And I won’t ask you again
whose scent that is on you?” He said in a calm and ominous tone.
“Oh, I know, I love to push buttons, it’s a specialty of mine, and that’s none of your fucking business,” I
said, grinning at him, fuck him and fuck that; he can kiss my ass. Cain wants to take me from my home,
family, and pack; well, I’m not going to make things easy for him.
Without another word, he bolted from the car and came to my side so fast, I didn’t have time to lock the
door before he wrenched it open, yanked me out of the car by my arm and slammed the door shut.
Cain then slammed me against the car, pressing his body against mine. There was almost no distance
between us as his eyes burrowed into mine. Finally, he placed one hand on the car and gripped my
chin with the other, with just enough force to let me know that he was livid.
“Did I not tell you to lose that attitude? Did I not tell you that there would be consequences?” His voice
was deep and gruff, but I just stood there silently and stared at him, not moving an inch.
A smirk grew across his face, and he tilted his head down, brushing his lips against my cheek, causing
me to stiffen and my thighs to squeeze together. His lips hovered, barely touching my skin, as he
closed what little bit of distance was left between us. I could feel his thick, hard cock brushing against
my leg, causing a pool of wetness to soak my underwear.
Cain trailed down to my jawline, still hovering his mouth just above my skin, then gently began to kiss
my neck. A gasp escaped from my lips as my heart started beating erratically, my chest heaved, and
my legs squeezed together even tighter as he continued his onslaught of gentle kisses down my neck
to collarbone. This man was a monster who had just ripped me from everything and everyone that I
loved, and yet he had me wrapped around his finger at this moment and was making me so fucking
horny that it was painful.
He groaned in satisfaction. “I can smell your arousal, my love; I can tell just how excited you are, how
wet you are,” Cain said in a low husky tone.
Cain released my chin and began to gently caress my cheek before entwining his hand within my hair.
He tilted his head up and looked me in the eyes. His lips hovered above mine as he said in a seductive
tone, “Are you going to tell me whose scent that is that lingers on you?”
Well, that ruined the mood! But that statement brought me out of my lust-filled haze and made me
remember just who I was dealing with at this moment.
I chuckled and leaned into him, licking his upper lip. “I’ll never tell you,” I whispered.
He removed his hand from my hair and wrapped it around my neck, his eyes pitch black now.
“So, that’s how it’s going to be, huh? One way or the other, you will tell me what I want to know.”
Cain then opened the car door, shoved me inside and slammed it shut. He entered the car and took a
sharp breath as he started the engine and took off like a madman. I wouldn’t let it show, but I was
scared and feared for my life at this moment.
After what felt like the longest drive in history, we finally reached his territory. It was quiet and dark; I
couldn’t see much, except for some dimly lit homes and buildings. Cain began to slow the car down as
we approached a large iron gate. A burly-looking man came out of a shack and opened the gate for us
to proceed through. He continued to drive down a narrow gravel road; large, thick trees surrounded the
road. Before I knew it, we arrived at his house; I looked away from the window and down at my lap; this
was it, this was my end.
Cain parked the car. “We are here.” He stated with an edgy tone.
I didn’t move or say a word, just continued to stare at my lap. I honestly didn’t want to get out of the car
in fear of what was to come, of what my future held. Finally, Cain got out of the car and approached my
side; he opened the door and motioned for me to get out. I still didn’t move or say a word to him.
He exhaled heavily. “Get out of the car now, or I will drag you out, your choice.” His tone was serious
and deadly.
I closed my eyes and mustered up as much courage and bravery as possible, and stepped out of the
vehicle.
Once I was out of the car, I peered up at the massive fortress in front of me. The house before me was
now my home and my prison. The place was tremendous from the outside but also beautiful, lights
adorned the pathway, and small shrubs were lined up perfectly along the front entrance. In addition,
there was a sizeable wooden porch wrapped around the front of the house. The front door was
enormous, standing tall and broad, with beautiful accents carved into the wood. The home itself was
painted a midnight sky blue, and it was breathtaking.
He gripped my elbow and turned me to face him as we approached the door.
His features held a stern expression. “Once we are inside, I will introduce you to those that you need to
know. Anyone that I do not introduce you to, you are not to speak to at all. After that, you will be given a
tour of the areas that you need to be familiar with when it is convenient.” He gripped my elbow a little
tighter before continuing. “And I will not repeat myself on this one; you are to watch that pretty little
mouth of yours; I will not tolerate being embarrassed in front of my pack. Do I make myself clear?”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “Crystal.”
“Good girl,” He said in a sarcastic voice while petting the top of my head. I pulled away from him and
stared daggers at him.
Cain grinned. “I am going to have so much fun breaking that defiant spirit of yours, my love,” Cain said
as he opened one of the doors and practically shoved me inside.
The inside of the house was just as beautiful as the outside. A large carriage wheel was hanging from
the ceiling, decorated in sparkling lights. A wooden, spiral staircase that led to the second floor took up
a significant portion of the entryway. Rustic lights and paintings covered the walls in the hallway. Grey,
wooden flooring was spread throughout, making the home feel very countryside. It seems as though
they have a thing for wood, HA!
Cain placed his palm on the small of my back, leading me further into the house. Just as he closed the
door, a man looking very similar to Cain approached us.
He smiled. “Brother, you’ve returned……and with a guest.” His last words were almost like a question.
Cain sighed. “Don’t play games, Calyx; you knew I would be arriving shortly and that she would be with
me.” He said in an annoyed tone.
Calyx grinned. “Can’t help myself, man, I’m bored.” He shrugged while looking at me and winking.
I wrinkled my nose, and my brows scrunched together as I took a step back, only to bump into Cain’s
arm.
A growl erupted from Cain. “Watch it, Calyx, I’m warning you.” His tone and stance emanated with
authority now.
They stood there for a minute, just staring at each other; the tension in the room was a bit awkward.
Finally, I cleared my throat in an attempt to end the stare down.
They tore their eyes away from each other and stared at me. I looked back and forth between the two
of them; Cain just glared at me while his brother smirked.
Cain continued to stare at me, then tore his gaze from mine and cleared his throat. “Calyx, this is Freja,
my mate and your future Luna. Freja, this is my brother Calyx.”
Calyx stepped closer to me, smiling from ear to ear. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Freja.” He extended
his hand out for me to shake. I took his hand in mine, gripping it firmly in mine and lightly shook his
hand. He then bent down and kissed the top of my hand. I immediately yanked my hand back from him,
feeling uncomfortable.
Cain stepped in between us. “THAT’S ENOUGH!” He bellowed out.
Calyx smirked and put his hands up in surrender. “Just trying to be polite, brother, that’s all.”
Cain stood there fuming mad; he took a step towards his brother, but a beautiful woman came out from
around a corner before anything else happened.
Her eyes widened with excitement. “Cain, your ho…….” She stopped mid-sentence, and her
excitement disappeared as she saw me standing there. She glared at me and then turned her attention
to Cain.
“Who the fuck is she?” She sneered.
Cain placed his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him. I tried to tear myself away from him,
feeling as if I was being used as a means to make this woman jealous, but his grip just tightened
around me, holding me in place.
He peered down at me and smiled. “This is Freja, my mate and your soon-to-be Luna. Freja, this is
Eve; she is a female warrior in the pack.” Cain said casually.
Her mouth dropped, and she gaped at him. “You have to be fucking kidding me? This is a joke, right?”
She shouted frantically. Calyx was standing at the sidelines, with a shit-eating grin on his face, as he
watched the events unfold before him.
He softly shook his head. “No, Eve. This is not a joke.” Cain said proudly, and I wanted more than
anything just to be alone.
“I am supposed to be your Luna, not this……this bitch. She’s not even your type, and she’s definitely
not Luna material Cain. I mean, look at her.” She was practically screaming with the last sentence as
she pointed at me frantically and scoffed.
I snorted at her remark, finding this whole thing quite amusing now.
Cain snapped his head towards me and gave me a deadly look. I just smiled at him and shrugged my
shoulders.
Eve crossed her arms. “What the fuck are you laughing at whore?” She spat.
I raised a brow. “Just your little whiny temper tantrum. I mean, how old are you? And to be honest,
jealously doesn’t suit you; it makes you look even more pathetic than you already are.” I stated, with a
broad smile spreading on my face.
She snarled at me and started to take threatening steps towards me.
Cain put up a hand, stopping her in her tracks. “Eve, stop right there.” He used his Alpha tone with her.
Eve hesitantly stopped in her tracks; her eyes became glassy. “You are seriously going to side with
her? You are going to allow her to speak to me that way?” She whined.
I tilted my head a bit and smiled as wide as I could, with an innocent look plastered on my face. Calyx
snickered from the side, causing Cain to glare at him this time.
Cain didn’t even look at me, but I could feel the anger and tension rolling off of him in waves.
“Calyx, take Freja to my room. Do not stop anywhere else and do not talk to anyone else, is that clear?”
Cain demanded.
Calyx straightened himself. “Yes, sir.” He said playfully.
Calyx came to my side and put out his arm in a gesture for us to link arms together. “My lady.” I couldn’t
help but laugh internally at his actions, and the devilish smile spread across his face.
I stood there for a second, contemplating whether or not I wanted to accept his offer. Then, finally, I
decided to say screw it and linked my arm with his, allowing him to guide me.
Calyx looked to Cain. “Don’t worry, brother; I’ll take good care of Freja for you while you are dealing
with your….” He paused as he glanced between Cain and Eve. “Problem.” He said, smiling.
It was clear that Calyx was trying to get a rise out of Cain, and it was working. Cain stared at him,
nostrils flared, his face almost beet red with anger. It was indeed an amusing sight, and I had to turn
away, afraid that I would laugh out loud.
Calyx turned his attention to me. “Shall we?”
I slightly nodded. “Lead the way, good sir,” I said in a playful tone, matching his demeanour.
Calyx grabbed my bag off the floor, and we began to proceed towards the spiral staircase. As we
ascended the stairs, I could feel eyes burning into the back of my head and a shrieking voice fading
within the distance; no doubt it was that women’s. I couldn’t quite make out what she was saying, but I
heard something along the lines of “That bitch needs to go.” And to be honest, I couldn’t agree with her
more. I didn’t want to be here anymore than she wanted me here. But unfortunately, I don’t think it
would be as easy as that, Cain seems adamant about keeping me, and I wish I knew the real reason.
