Chapter 186 The Other Dean
Since the last battle, Cassidy has been acting rather strangely. Now only but a few minutes ago she rushed of having to go somewhere she did not want to say. Well, I know that I can read her mind, but I have promised her that I shall not do that without her permission, so it is with rather frustration that I find my way downstairs, where, as usual, I find the Lecarde family gathered in the kitchen.
“Well, it seems that you, my dear brother, have become used to this tradition as well.”
Roberto only but rumbles at me in laughter as he steps forward and gives me one of those awkward man hugs. Then from behind him, I see a face I have not seen for a while as they have been out on “Angel” business.
“Lilith,” I only but nod my head, yet I cannot but help myself, “I do suggest that we change your name, for the only Lilith I can seem to remember is one that has a rather black heart.”
“Lucas,” Lilith chuckles as Breyden pulls her closer in his arms, “My heart is already black.”
“Trust you to say such a thing; now you don’t perhaps know where my beloved rushed off to so early?”
“I am afraid not, Lucas; she was on her phone as she ran past me.”
“Peculiar. But let us push it aside, is the Winchester boys still around?”
Then forward steps Damien that has been so swamped in Council business, “Yes, in fact, they were looking for you, but from the noises, in your room, I knew that it was best not to disturb you.”
With nothing but a fit of laughter, I wave Damien off and proceed to take out my phone, but immediately Damien stops me, “They are in the common room.”
“Well, why are you not sitting with them?”
Breyden only smiles at me, then he feels the urge to speak the truth, “They said that they might kill one of us since they are surrounded by so many Vampires.”
I shake my head in pure amusement and turn to head towards the common room when Roberto calls me back, “Do you want me to come with you?”
“Of course, it is not a secret what happens in this house.”
With that, we both head out of the kitchen, where we find the boys eagerly waiting for us. And of course, it is Dean that has the first word to say, “And? Was it worth the screaming?”
“My god! Dean, do not even try to talk to me about…” I only but grunt at him. “You do know that Vampire sex is far more pleasuring than that you will ever have with a human woman.”
He lifts his hands and shows for me to stop, “I have been tricked by a few things before, so please do not start asking questions. Now put your ass down; we have a problem.”
My first and immediate reaction, “Please do not tell me that Lilith and her pet are still around?”
“No, thank fuck that one is dealt with, but we have something else lurking around.”
“I do not seem to want to be unhelpful, but please explain why this involves me?”
There is a stupid little smile that appears on Sam’s face, and he can barely contain his laughter as he feels he needs to share, “Well, first of all, it is going to be shit funny when you try and speak to one of them, and second, he is your friend.”
With only confusion, I shake my head and look back at Dean that does not think the situation is as amusing as his brother finds it, “Dean.”
“Yes.”
He grinds his teeth, “It is Dean.”
“Yes, my dear friend, you are Dean.”
“No,” he hisses at me, “It is the other Dean.”
“You sure are awkward. Have you developed as alter ego, perhaps?”
“You are such a damn idiot,” I can almost see the veins pop in his head, “Your friend, Dean, the mut that lives in the woods.”
“Oh, why did you not say that from the start? Now, what seems to be the problem?”
“Well,” Sam interrupts before Dean can even start, “There have been some attacks on the outer limits of the city. Now we believe, and from what we have been told from the word going around, that it is either Dean himself or one of his pack.”
And that is me that immediately snaps, “Dean will never disobey me. He knows what he is allowed to take, and he will not go past that. Now, who is this source that has been giving you this information?”
That is when Dean and Sam both do not seem to say a word, yet, I demand, “Who is your source?”
Then finally, Sam speaks again, “It is one of his pack.”
“Bullshit! I am finding this hard to believe. We are leaving at once. I shall not sit here and let you boys tell me that I cannot trust a dear friend.”
And with that, not waiting for Cassidy, as I promised her I will always do, we pile into the Impala and make the drive that will take us to the forest where I nearly lost the love of my life.
To say that the air in the car is not tense would be a complete lie, so I have Roberto and Damien with me just in case there is a possibility of a fight between the brothers and me. I have always respected Dean and Sam, but I shall not sit and let someone tell me lies about a friend, yet, even more, someone that is like a brother to me.
The point, though, why have I not heard about these attacks? I have surely not lost my authority and the power that I hold over these creatures. This must be malicious slander. I demand answers, and right now, I do not trust to get them from these two. But yet, I need to remind myself that these boys will never lie, especially when it comes to some creature being out of line. So I shall give them the benefit of the doubt until I can get Dean…well, this is not going to work, so I shall just call him a mut.
“Fair,” you two win. “I believe you if you say that one of the Crimson Shadow Pack has stepped out of line.”
“Hey,” Sam glances over his shoulder, “You know that we would never bullshit you. And we knew he is a friend; that is why we rather came to you instead of running around ourselves.”
“You are damn right there; I would have been pissed if I caught you sneaking around my city. Now, get this car there faster before my wife realizes that I have left without her.”
With that, Damien only laughs, and he points at the flashing screen on his phone.
“Shit,” I throw my hands in the air, “I knew if forgot something before we left. But, Damien, I beg of you, please do not answer that phone.” Then I turn to Roberto, “And I would strongly suggest that you listen as well.”
“Hey,” Roberto only growls, “I am not getting involved in your domestics. And as I see it, the woman ran off somewhere without telling you, so what is so wrong if you do that as well.”
Now, this Dean does find funny himself, “You never tell a woman that she is wrong; it does not matter what she is. There is nothing worse than a female being scorned, and let me tell you, some of them can turn into some goddamn ugly things.”
And with that said, we are stopping at the entrance of the forest just as the sun hits noon, yet, there is an uneasiness that lays thick in the air. Something has happened, something bad. I can sense it with every bone in my body.
So it is with haste that we step out of the car and head to the entrance of the forest, where normally one would be stopped by two of the members of the pack.
That is all I need to turn to the Winchester boys, “Something is wrong. Something really bad.”
