Chapter 37
Elaine POV
“Elaine, what do we do?” Fran yelled.
“I’m thinking!”
The goons who once sold my brother wolf enhancers shoved us out of the storage room. I expected Andrea to walk out and reveal herself as the mastermind behind the wolf enhancers scheme but no one came.
Fran and I were in trouble.
“What do we do with them?” the one with the braided beard asked.
His friend shrugged. They weren’t the sharpest I guessed.
“You could let us go and save yourselves the hustle. We swear we won’t tell,” Fran smiled.
“Even I know that’s a bad idea,” the smooth-shaved guy said.
The one with the braided beard was shorter with brown eyes while the other was a foot taller with tanned skin.
“Well, we wouldn’t want to get physical with you guys,” I said, bluffing.
“Yeah, we’re warning you,” Fran winked.
We were two powerful she-wolves we could take two cocky males. I hoped.
They barked out laughter and shoved us forward.
“Don’t say we didn’t warn you,” Fran said.
In a blink of an eye, Fran’s fingers turned to hairy razor claws. She swiped at the man behind her, ripping his shirt and drawing blood.
“Fuck!”
Dove! Magical powers! Anyone, please show up. Dove manifested from her sleep first. I jumped on our attacker before he could grab Fran. I wrapped my arms around his neck and squeezed.
“Ouch!” Fran yelled but she stuck out her leg and caught her attacker in the jaw sending him into the dumper.
My guy was slowing down but I couldn’t suffocate him like this.
I leapt off and rammed my foot into his back. He smacked against the wall and turned in bewilderment.
“Don’t move!” I warned.
“You’re joking,” he growled.
Hands wrapped around my waist before I realized and yanked me backwards. I cursed at my lapse in concentration before I took in Azaire’s frame.
“She said don’t move,” he ordered.
Ross came to Fran’s aid but she had her attacker on the ground bleeding already. Ross still took out his anger and slammed his jaw into the guy.
“Damn girls,” Azaire said, racking a hand through his hair.
“Told you we could take care of ourselves,” Fran winked at me.
I winked back. It was reckless. My wolf could have decided to remain dormant but it worked. Adrenaline ran through my veins.
“Hey, you okay?” Azaire asked, brushing hair out of my face.
“Fine, I’m good. We found everything down there.”
“Good, we need backup,” Ross said, fishing out his phone. “You bastards have a lot of explaining to do.”
“We’re not talking,” the one with his hands against the wall spat.
“Oh we have ways of making you talk,” Azaire said.
He tucked me under his arm and rested his hand above my bum.
“You did good,” he said and kissed my head.
***
“Where are they being taken to?” Fran asked.
The betas came quickly. Megan was among them. She gave me a nasty look but was ultimately focused on getting the two guys off the property before anyone showed up.
Azaire and Ross parked off the hotel property in an attempt to remain hidden. We walked through the gates to find Lucas getting punched by a guy in leather.
Fran and I gasped at the same time. “Blazer!”
Azaire gawked at us. “Blazer? Lucas!”
Azaire and Ross ran to break things up. What was he doing here? Did he send those guys who attacked us? I couldn’t process my thoughts as I ran to get to them. Azaire stood by his brother while I checked mine for injuries.
Unlike their last fight at the high school, Blazer had gotten the better of Lucas this time. When Blazer decided to fight back he could cause some damage.
“What are you doing here?” I punched his arm after making sure he was fine.
“Me?” Blazer threw his arms out at Lucas. “He’s the one spying on our territory.”
“You didn’t have to hit him!” Fran yelled.
Blazer rubbed his face. “He’s a big boy he can take it. What the hell is this?”
“I ought to break your face you bastard,” Azaire burst forward but stopped short when I gripped Blazer’s arm.
He ground his teeth but didn’t move an inch.
“Were you buying?” I asked.
“What?” Blazer’s brows knitted together.
“Don’t play dumb I know you use wolf enhancers. We found a ton of stuff in the hotel storage room.”
“You’re telling me there were wolf enhancers in the hotel this entire time and I didn’t know?” He raked his hair. “Unbelievable.”
“You’re an infuriating person, you know Blazer?” Ross said through clenched teeth.
“Ugh, it’s none of your business if I’m using them or not,” Blazer scowled.
“It is my business I can’t reserve the effects of wolf enhancers. You could die.” My hands trembled and I felt myself on the verge of tears.
“Uh, guys.” Fran buckled forward.
“Francine,” Blazer gasped.
“Don’t, don’t come closer,” Lucas ordered through his bloody lip.
“That guy… caught me,” Fran moaned.
Ross picked her up and held her to his chest. “You’re going to be fine, kid.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Blazer barked. “Who did this?”
“I thought I could heal on my own,” Francine whimpered.
“Put her in the backseat,” I said rushing to open the door.
Azaire climbed into the driver’s seat, but we weren’t going anywhere yet. Ross lay her on the backseat and I popped my top half inside so I could see the wound.
“Pretty deep,” I said, biting my lip.
“Hurts like hell,” she winced.
“Don’t worry,” I whispered, pulling her shirt up.
“We need to hurry back to the pack,” Ross said, urgently.
“Give her a minute,” Blazer ordered.
Ross looked like he was going to take my brother’s head off but when my hands touched Francine’s skin and the slash quickly closed everyone paused.
Azaire had seen me do it but the he inflicted on himself was hardly anything to marvel at.
“Oh my- What just happened? There isn’t even a scar.” Francine smoothed her belly.
I stepped out of the car as soon as my head started spinning.
“What was that? How can you do that? Azaire?” Ross stared between us.
I knew what came after this but the dizzy spell was new. I heard people talking but none of it processed because reality was stripped from me as everything went dark.
