Sweet Subterfuge

Chapter 1003

Chapter 1003

Larissa recalled that there was indeed such an incident.

However, Kevan’s excuse to her was that he needed to go to Westonia to handle matters concerning Edmund,

“Kevan knows how the customs work better than you! You’re not even married. Yel you’re already taking his side!”

Gary scoffed.

His displeasure was quite obvious.

Larissa chuckled awkwardly, then decided to come clean and reveal the whole truth.

“Well the truth is, Kevan and I never actually got divorced. I married him over six years ago.”

Gary hadn’t heard this from Kevan.

So, his emotions seemed conflicted upon first hearing that.

He clutched his chest. It was as if he were experiencing some discomfort.

Larissa and Lewis quickly approached him, asking with concern, “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

In a sudden change of demeanor, Gary used his other hand to playfully tap Larissa’s forehead.

His expression instantly returned to normal

However, the tap was quite forceful, causing Larissa to wince in pain.

“If you ever dare to hide such important things from me again, it won’t be just a tap on the head.” Gary warned her sternly.

Larissa, still holding her forehead, reassured him repeatedly. “I promise I won’t hide anything from you, ever!”

Kevan’s parents extended a warm welcome to Gary and Lewis.

As soon as Gary and Lewis entered the house, they were offered tea and snacks,

The hospitality didn’t wane for a moment.

Gary, in turn, displayed a surprisingly amiable attitude toward Kevan’s parents.

It was unclear if this was his usual demeanor, or if Larissa’s constant chatter during the journey had softened him.

Gary had also brought gifts for Anthony and Violet from Westonia.

Anthony received a box of exquisite cigars and an antique pipe.

Violet was presented with a priceless set of jewelry acquired from an auction.

Initially, Anthony and Violet hesitated but eventually accepted the gifts after Larissa’s persuasive efforts.

After some casual conversation, Gary got down to the main purpose of his visil.

“I came here with two objectives to celebrate the big family reunion dinner with the younger generation and to discuss wedding arrangements with both of you.”

While they delved into wedding plans, Larissa and Kevan headed to the kitchen to prepare lunch.

The housekeepers had all returned to their hometowns for the holiday.

So, they had to handle everything themselves.

The kitchen was somewhat distant from the living room.

It was difficult to eavesdrop on the ongoing conversation.

“Stop peeking. Lewis is there; he’ll keep an eye on Gary,” Kevan reassured her, wearing a somewhat helpless expression.

“Oh, by the way, why didn’t you tell me when you went to seek their blessings?”

“I was afraid you wouldn’t let me go,” he admitted.

After all, she had been resisting the idea of coming clean to her family.

However, they had reached a point where there was no time for hesitation.

“Plus, if I went alone, your dad could only direct his anger at me.”

He wanted to shield her from any harm.

In that instant, her anger, which had been simmering inside, dissipated due to his words.

However, when she thought of the forehead tap she had received earlier today, she still fell quite aggrieved.

She moved closer, brushing aside the strands of hair from her forehead.

“My dad smacked me–just because I didn’t tell him about our marriage.”

She pointed at the spot where she had been smacked.

Her voice was filled with resentment.

Of course, the faint red mark had long disappeared.

But Kevan still gently rubbed the area and apologized to her in a low, apologetic tone. “It’s all my fault.”

“Just an apology?” She was still not satisfied.

He raised an eyebrow and said in an indulgent tone. “Hmm? Tell me your conditions then. I’ll fulfill them,”

“It’s a promise then!”

She blinked, a mischievous smile appearing on her face.

He suddenly had a bad feeling about everything.
