Chapter 26 Regrets
“I’m sorry! It’s my fault because I lied to you. I didn’t tell the truth. But I didn’t cheat!” He even really followed me. I stopped walking for a moment because of what he said.
“Believe me, I didn’t cheat.”
Yeah, I know you didn’t cheat. But can we still change what happened? Our marriage was annulled now. And one more thing, you already love someone else. I don’t know what this talk is for. Does he want closure? He signed our annulment. That is the closure.
I took a deep breath and quickly wiped away my tears. I stepped away from him but again stopped when he spoke again.
“That’s where you’re good at. Instead of talking, you always just avoid, run away, and walk away.”
“What do you want me to do, huh!” I turned to him.
“Fight for me…” he answered weakly.
“How? How can I fight you if, in the end, I’m the loser? If you choose her. I just want to raise myself up because I’m exhausted, I poured all my love on you before. I am not an ideal girlfriend, Kian. I’m not as sexy as your exes. I’m not pretty. That’s why people don’t want me for you, right?”
That’s what I believed when I didn’t even know what really happened. But would I be blamed if I did that? Yes, I love him dearly and he is my husband. But he just really turned around. He was just forced to marry me because my parents insisted.
When we were young I thought that the time would come when everything would end as well for us. And what I feared came true. He lied. And I was also mistaken. He know my insecurities, but he didn’t even explain.
“When we’re still kids, you’re the only one I chose to be with for life, Moo…”
I averted my eyes. It’s nice to hear. But I’m not his only one anymore. He has a new girlfriend.
“Do you regret that you annulled our marriage? Do you regret that you left me?” he asked with a hopeful and pleading voice. I looked at him earnestly.
“Are you sorry?” he asked tearfully. I closed my eyes and let my tears fall. I opened my eyes and met his hopeful eyes. I nodded.
“Yes. When I heard Jewel’s explanation. I regretted why I left you so easily. That’s why I’m here now.”
He looks shocked but after some seconds he manages to smile.
“Do you still love me?” he asked. I averted my eyes again. I don’t want any more trouble in his life now. I did not answer.
“I love you so much, Moo…” he said weakly. Tears welled up in his eyes.
“If you love me, why didn’t you look for me or even follow me? If you really love me, why did you sign the annulment paper!” I shouted out of anger at his face.
His forehead frowned. He thought for a moment.
“I knelt down in front of your parents. I begged them to tell me where you were, but they told me to let you go first and I did. Even though… even with each passing day, I miss you every day.” His voice was raspy and his eyes were red.
“We are still married. We will not separate and even in our next life, I will make sure we are still together.”
How did it happen? Mom said, he signed. Kian sighed.
“My only plan was to be your boyfriend before we graduate college so there’s no reason for us to part ways. I’m so obsessed with you that I was able to blackmail you.” I winced at what he said.
“It was also a blessing that your parents found out about us. Because otherwise, I would have not married you. They won’t insist on marrying you. I have no regrets about what happened. I’m even grateful for what happened. Even if it was all rushed, that paid off beautifully and that is marrying you,” he said while looking at me intently.
“The day we signed our marriage contract, it was the happiest day of my life. The woman I dreamed of became my wife.” He took a deep breath before speaking again. There was a pain in his eyes. “… Because of my mistake, your parents forced me to sign the annulment papers. I’m not crazy enough to sign the annulment. I love being your husband. And I don’t want to be with anyone else in my life but you and that hasn’t changed since then.”
I could not immediately speak to what he said. At all of what he said, I forcefully processed that in my brain. One of the reasons I came home was that I was planning to build a business and it was for him in case I had anything else to expect from him. I want us to fix it if it can even be fixed.
But I found out that he signed the annulment papers. In case I didn’t ask if it was processed, maybe he took the drafts and said that they would process it. Last night I found out that he has a girlfriend and is getting married. Didn’t he know that I was hurt again because of that?
Then now he will say he loves me and we are not separated yet. With what he said, instead of making me happy, I just got even angrier.
“Cheater!” I shouted in his face. “You didn’t cheat with Jewel years ago, but you’re cheating on me while I’m away!”
He did not speak. He scratched his nape and looked the other way. I just remembered that we had companions.
“I do not have a girlfriend, we just-”
I immediately understood what he meant. To make me jealous? He lied to me again! I looked at him sharply.
“Sorry…”
“I hate you!” I shouted and hurried into my room. My heart was pounding at what I had found out. Damn! He’s annoying! Also, include my friends who agreed with him.
Tsk! Let them be together.
I’ll just put my annoyance to sleep. It’s good that he didn’t follow me anymore because he won’t get anything out of me. I will not talk to him while my anger against him has not subsided.
The next morning at eight o’clock I woke up. I’m sure Macy’s gone because she’s going to go to work. I took a shower and got dressed. I wore a cropped polo and skirt. I have important walks today.
When I get home early, I will take care of creating a business page on social media, for online orders and promotions. If everything went well in the following days I will also post a job hiring for my future employees.
On the weekend, maybe I’ll go home to my parents’ house so I can be with them, especially Brent. I ate at the restaurant just below the building before taking a taxi. At two o’clock in the afternoon, I finished my appointments. Earlier than I expected.
It’s already lunchtime now so I’ll eat at the mall nearby before I go home. I was shocked to be able to receive another text from Kian. His number is not registered but I know very well that he’s the one who texted even though he did not identify himself.
“Moo… Where are you?”
“Let’s meet, Moo.”
“You’re not in the condo? Tell me your whereabouts. Let’s go, Moo.”
“Moo.”
“Are you still angry? I’m sorry, Moo.”
There are still puppy eyes emoticons. I can’t believe him. All Moo. You are becoming a cow. I typed a message.
“Mall.” That is my only answer.
It’s up to him to decide which mall in the Philippines I’m in. I ate at a fast-food. I had already eaten half of my food when Kian came and just sat in the front of my seat. He’s good at guessing.
I ignored him, I just continued to eat even though it was awkward because I was eating and he was just watching.
“You’re not going anywhere?” he asked. I just shooked my head.
“Let’s watch a movie.”
I shooked my head again. Because after I eat I will go home to rest because my head was hurting. I will also create my social media account.
“Okay. Are you coming home? Let’s just take out some food and then do a movie marathon,” he said.
“It’s embarrassing for Macy. You really plan to hang out there. I’m just staying there,” I replied in an irritated tone.
“Hey, why don’t you just go home to our house,” he suggested. I looked at him coldly and lazily
He grabbed my hand. He touched it and squeezed it slightly. He stared at me pleadingly.
“Please, let’s settle everything. I’m sorry for lying. I’m sorry if I hurt you. I’m sorry for everything I’ve done.”
I sighed.
“Come home to me. Please, take me back,” he pleaded.
