Chapter 897 He Who Watched the Watchers
Chapter 897 He Who Watched the Watchers
Queeny didn’t sleep on her own.
Karida slept in the same room as Queeny, while the four men kept an eye on her at the entrance.
Queeny gave a wry smile at the close guard.
How could she possibly break out?
She sighed and closed her eyes.
The night in the countryside was so still that the only sound in the vicinity was the occasional chirps of
insects.
Karida was soon asleep, breathing regularly.
The men’s rumbling snores could be heard through the door.
Though worn out, Queeny lay sleepless at this time.
A question occurred to her.
Ramon was with her when she escaped from the villa.
But she only saw Karida when she woke up in the truck.
Where had Ramon gone?
Although she harbored some fear for Ramon and decided that he was treacherous, Queeny thought his
presence might add to the chance of her escaping here. After all, she was familiar with him from their
previous contacts.
With that, she frowned slightly.
Just then, there was a very faint whoosh from outside the window opposite to Queeny’s bed.
Queeny froze for a second. Turning to the window instinctively, she caught a glimpse of a dark shadow
flashing by.
Queeny’s expression changed.
She looked to Karida by her side, who was fast asleep and totally unconscious of what had just
happened.
A sense of misgiving overtook Queeny.
It was a blessing if the shadow was someone on Felix’s side, but what if it wasn’t?
Anyway, either was better than being stuck with the current gang.
So thinking, Queeny remained silent instead of warning the men.
At this time, however, a puff of smell sneaked in through the door crack.
Detecting the odd smell, Queeny frowned, then widened her eyes when she realized what it was.
It was narcotizing smoke!
The mysterious shadow was not Felix’s man!
However, Queeny had already taken in too much of the smoke to take any action.
She saw Karida go limp and heard the four men drop to the ground.
Clenching her teeth and holding her breath, Queeny struggled to stay conscious.
But the smoke was so potent that she finally passed out.
On waking up, Queeny found herself in a very strange room.
Surrounded by four bare walls with a gloss of grey metal, the room was empty but for a solid iron bed.
On this very bed lay Queeny, blindfolded by a thin piece of cloth that enabled her to see vaguely the
light dangling overhead.
Where was she?
She wondered in half consciousness.
Lifting her arms slightly, she heard a rattling of iron chains.
Queeny’s heart sank.
A further struggle convinced her that she had been confined to the iron bed by two long iron chains.
A sudden chill ran down her spine.
Just then, there came a clumping sound made by boots walking on the floor.
Seized by surprise and fear, Queeny asked instinctively, “Who is it?”
No reply.
With the clumping sound coming closer and closer, Queeny felt a sudden prick on her neck.
Having been injected with a dose of some unknown drug, she stiffened, and promptly lapsed into
complete unconsciousness.
[…]
It was three days later when Felix came back to the castle.
Watching Felix’s car getting in the castle, Donald had intended to go up and inquire about Queeny.
On seeing Felix’s expression, however, Donald knew better.
He came up to Felix and said, “Mr. Kaye would like to speak to you. He’s in the drawing room.”
“Got it.”
Felix said grimly, then turned and walked into the drawing room.
Irvin was sitting there, overwhelmed with anxiety.
Informed of Queeny’s disappearance, he had come to Felix for more information.
At the sight of Felix, Irvin immediately rose from the seat and inquired, “Any luck, Felix?”
Felix’s face was alarmingly grave.
Felix came over, his demeanor devoid of the usual noble dignity. He grabbed the cup of water from the
table and took a drink before he said, “No.”
“How come?”
Irvin was taken aback.
“I know whose hands she’s in,” Felix said in a somber tone.
Irvin froze for a second.
“What do you mean by that? You know who’s taken her?”
Felix nodded.
“Who?”
But Felix gave no answer.
Looking up at Irvin, he frowned slightly. “What are you doing here?”
Choked by these words, Irvin fumed, “What else can I be doing here but ask you about Queeny? It’s
true that we Kaye family don’t meddle in the affairs of gangdom, but Queeny is my friend. How can I
stand aside?”
Felix curled up his lips coolly, his deep eyes filled with gloom.
“It’s none of your business. Just leave it alone.”
Felix knew that Irvin’s father had always been objecting to Irvin’s close association with Felix lest Irvin
get into trouble incidentally. Although Felix didn’t care about Irvin’s father, he didn’t want to involve
innocent Irvin in the bad fight that was destined to happen if the other party would not let Queeny go.
Irvin was fully aware of what was on Felix mind.
He got more furious for that.
“Felix, why are you so sentimental now? I’m only here for some updates. If there’s anything I can do to
help, I’ll do it readily.”
“If not, I won’t get in your way. Can’t you at least tell me the truth?”
Felix cast another look at Irvin.
He didn’t hold back this time.
He said deeply, “It’s the Zircon Association.”
Irvin was stunned.
Although he didn’t interfere with gangdom, he had heard about the Zircon Association.
He knew that it was something larger, more complicated and more deep-rooted than the Dragon Club.
He shivered at the thought of Queeny falling into the hands of the Zircon Association.
His heart sank and his face clouded over.
“What are you going to do now?”
Felix said gravely, “I have my own way to deal with it. Don’t meddle in it, and don’t come here for the
time being.”
