Chapter 29. Stalker

Noah POV

I felt like a stalker watching the black SUV cruise down the

highway. At the next stoplight, it turned left and stopped outside a huge house.

The house looked brand new. It is a two–st/ modern mansion that looks majestic from afar. The lamps outside cast a muted color of gold that looked breathtaking in the moonlight.

The green backdrop of trees and mossy green grass emphasized simplicity, neatness, and understated opulence.

Looking at this house was like looking at Briana herself. She used to be simple, but her beauty radiates from within.

“Bye, Daddy M.” They cried in unison as they clambered out of the car, ducking their father’s tall figure.

I looked at the sight with envy and a dull ache in my chest.

“It’s Mr. Ford. I did not know he had children.” The driver’s voice

pulled me out of my trance.

“He’s in the limelight because of his work. He must have done it to protect his family.” It was Chris explaining.

I sighed.

“Let’s go,” I told the driver, and we left the area.

“Seeing how he has protected Briana well made me feel a deep sense of self–scrutiny. I failed to protect my ex–wife from myself.” I agonized while gulping down my vodka.

After dropping Chris off, I found the need to drink and called Brent

in the middle of the night, asking to meet at Blue Canyon.

I needed someone to talk to. Otherwise, I’d go crazy blaming myself.

“You weren’t yourself back then,” Brent said to my defense.

Very few people knew that I had temporary amnesia after waking up from the coma. That time, all I knew was that I hated Briana to

the core.

I remember hating her when she was new to the household. That feeling was the only thing I remembered when I woke up in the ICU with Uncle Matt looking at me.

“She was out to get your money. Your parents changed their will when you were gone and left a sizable amount of their fortune under her name. Briana was a greedy child. She wanted your family’s fortune for herself.”

“I remember that was what Uncle Matt told me. He even showed me pictures backing up his claims.” I told Brent.

He was listening attentively to me and never once interrupted.

“With my old anger resurfacing, I did not have time to think. I immediately called our legal department to draft me a divorce. agreement. Three days later, the divorce became final, but Briana never got her copy from the lawyers. She disappeared the night she took her important things from the house.”

“I thought it was good riddance. Five years and I never heard of her. Not even to claim her inheritance. I was even shocked to find out when I returned from France two years ago that she left behind

all the jewelry and valuable things bought her that night.”

“That made me question my decision five years ago. You think I was an a**h*le?” I asked Brent, my eyes turning blurry as I upended my empty glass after downing its contents in one gulp.

Brent shook his head. “You weren’t of sound mind back then.”

“Do you think she had an affair? Or am I the one who drove her off to the arms of another man when I threw he, out?” That question. had been bugging me since I saw Briana’s children with Marcus.

Did I push her toward the man because she had no one and nothing? Did Marcus save her? Did she marry him out of gratitude?

Ideas swirled inside my head, and each time, I could feel a shot of hope flowing through my veins, energizing my demeanor.

Brent shook his head. “I don’t know. Only Briana can answer your questions dude. Why don’t you talk to her?”

I could feel the corners of my lips lifting ridiculously.

Brent’s got the best advice. But then, I remember my primal urges.

“I can’t. Every time I look at Briana all I want is to devour her. I remembered how she used to moan my name. I thought it was my memory of Britney, but when I kissed Briana tonight, it made me realize it was my memory of her all along.”

Brent slammed his shot glass down the counter in shock.

“You kissed Briana?” He looked shookt as he pointed his index. finger at me accusingly.

I nodded happily. “Yes. And she kissed me back.”

Chapter 29. Stalker

Brent rubbed his face with the palms of his hands.

“Do you know that you are courting trouble with what you did? You kissed a married woman!”

“So?” I asked, feeling an uncharacteristic sense of unrepentance.

“I missed her lips,” I muttered, gazing into space.

“I think you miss going to the doct for a check–up. You need to see your psychiatrist. You’re losing it, man.”

I waved my hand in the air. “No. I miss my wife. You think she misses me, too.” I remembered how she responded to my kiss and -smiled like a lunatic.

Brent shook his head but never said a word in response.

“I miss my mom. I miss my dad. I miss my wife the most.” My voice broke.

I kept mumbling those words repeatedly until I could not remember anything anymore.
