His Coldness

His Coldness

ZOE rushed toward the hospital. She asked at the information desk about Helios, but she didn’t use the title: wife this time. She must stop doing it because it’s wrong. Her tears keep on pouring down her cheeks while talking the way toward Helios’s private room. Soon as she got there, she saw the nurse who had just come out of the room and bowed her head when the nurse passed by. Her hands were trembling while her heart thumped so fast. She twisted the doorknob and pushed the door slightly open. Soon as she stepped in, she saw Helios lying on the white bed, unconscious. She sobbed silently as she walked toward him. “Ms. Levine…” Her eyes widened when she saw the two bodyguards that accompanied her during her last school days in college. Guess she’s too occupied that she didn’t notice them. She smiled, but it faded away when she glanced at Helios again. “He didn’t…” she choked and covered her mouth to prevent herself from sobbing. “He didn’t wake up yet, Ms. Levine. But the doctor said that he was already safe. He only got wounds in the head because of the impact when his car rushed towards the road barrier.” Zoe sighed in relief after hearing it. She smiled and said, “Thank you,” before she walked toward Helios. She sat on the side of the bed as he reached for his hand. She pressed her lips together as she stared at his peaceful face. “I’m sorry…” she said and halted as she glanced at the two who were standing near the door. “Did you two already eat?” she asked. The two nodded. But eventually, get what she meant. “We’re going to give you two privacy, Ms. Levine. We’re just outside,” the blonde-haired guard said, making Zoe smile and nod.

“Thank you…” “I’m Ambrose, Ms. Levine, and he’s Cliff,” Ambrose said as he pointed to the man with brown hair. “Nice meeting you two. Thank you,” she said and smiled. After that, the two went out, making her shake her head as she turned to face Helios. She couldn’t believe that she had only got to know those two at this moment. “Hel…” she started. She pressed their palms together as she caressed the back of his hand. “I am sorry… I know it’s my fault…” she stopped when she felt a droplet on her left cheek. Which she knew came from her left eye. Then suddenly, tears pour down once again. “I am so sorry… even if I want to—” “Zoe.” Zoe immediately let go of Helios’s hand and wiped her tears away. She smiled soon as she turned towards the door. “Nana…” Nana rushed towards them, and tints of sadness filled her eyes. “God… what happened to him?” she mumbled soon as she stood beside Helios. Zoe remains sitting beside Helios. “What happened—” “It’s my fault, Nana,” Zoe said as she bowed her head and bit her lower lip. Nana Milky glanced at her and shook her head. She walked closer and hugged her on the side. “Zoe, dear. How come it is your fault? Helios is a drag racer. He is good at driving; that’s why he opened a car company….” Zoe frowned and lifted her head to face Nana Milky. “What do you mean, Nana?” Nana sighed. “I talked to the doctor soon as I get here since Don Lincoln can’t come to visit his son. The doctor said that Helios is not drunk nor in the sense of drugs. Also, he said that Helios’s blood pressure is low. This means to say he was stressed—” “It’s because of me, Nana. He… He proposed yet—” “What are you doing here?”

Zoe and Nana froze for a moment when they heard that familiar voice. Nana Milky smiled and let go of Zoe. “Helios…” Zoe slowly turned to face him and met his cold gaze. “H-Hey…” “What are you doing here?” Zoe was about to open her mouth when Nana went in front of her. “She’s here to visit you, of course.” “Send her away, Nana. I don’t want to see her,” he said. Hearing this, Zoe felt something inside her. It seems like a barbed wire has enveloped her heart. It aches. She smiled faintly. “Helios…” “Nana, I want to get proper rest. I don’t want to receive any guests at the moment.” Nana Milky’s eyes widened because of Helios’s sudden demeanor. “What’s wrong? She’s Zoe. She’s the one who called me and—” “Please, Nana,” he said, as his eyes never left Zoe’s. His cold gaze sent shivers down her spine. “I’m sorry—” “Why are you apologizing? Don’t feel sorry about this. This has nothing to do with you—” “But I…” she heaved a deep sigh as she looked down and then glanced at Nana Milky. She smiled at the old lady. “I’ll come back tom—” “Call the doctor, Nana. I want to get out and rest at home,” he interrupted. “And I don’t require my employee to visit me at home.” Zoe knew what he meant. Thus, she didn’t bother to talk again. Guess Helios really doesn’t want to see her. Does he loathe her now? Is this because of what they have come up with earlier? It was the right thing for them. Helios has a brighter and more fantastic future if he finds the right woman with the same life state as him. For the nth time, love is not something they can rush to feel with. Marriage is not easy. Being

committed is not easy. Many people who fell in love and committed themselves early ended up by splitting up or divorcing. Zoe is afraid to fall profoundly but gets hurt in the end. She’s a coward in taking a risk. Zoe smiled at Helios before she bowed her head. “Don’t worry. I won’t bother you again,” she said before she turned around. She tried her best to compose herself. She glanced at Nana Milky one more time and smiled at the old lady. “I need to go, Nana,” she said, and when the old lady nodded, she left. Nana Milky could feel the tension between Helios and Zoe, but she didn’t interfere. At that moment, she felt anger at Helios for treating Zoe like that. However, they’re already grown-ups. So, she will see how they will cope with their misunderstanding. Zoe heaved a deep sigh and leaned on the door soon as she exited the room. She closes her eyes as she clutches her chest. “Are you okay, Ms. Levine?” Zoe immediately opened her eyes when she heard Ambrose’s voice. She composed herself and smiled at them. “Y-Yeah, I’m okay. It’s just that your boss is a little bit grumpy,” she said and let out a soft chuckle. Ambrose smiled, but Cliff nudged his arm and hemmed to clear his throat. “Don’t worry, Ms. Levine. Let’s give him time,” Cliff said, making Zoe nod. “I know. Besides, it seems like the impact is really that bad because the cold Helios is back, am I right?” Ambrose smiled awkwardly as he didn’t know what to reply. Cliff came to the rescue. “Don’t worry, Ms. Levine. He will soon get back to himself.” “Yeah, after he mends his heart….” Ambrose whispered, making Cliff hit his back, causing him to cough. Zoe’s eyes widened. “What’s wrong? Are you saying something, Ambrose?” she asked. Ambrose smiled. “It’s nothing, Ms. Levine. Anyway, we’re glad to escort you outside—”

Zoe raised her left hand, making Ambrose stop talking. She smiled and said, “It’s fine. Thank you.” However, Ambrose still insisted. Zoe doesn’t want to fight with them, so he lets the two accompany her until she takes a cab back to her apartment. Staring at the white ceiling, Zoe couldn’t sleep. She was thinking about Helios. If he treats her coldly, what will happen to her work? Could she work well? Or is it a sign that she will pass a resignation later?
