Chapter 1147 It Was Not Julien's Fault
"I know." Julien responded.
Sydney rubbed her temples and said, "Even if they had shown sincerity and brought me gifts, I wouldn't forgive them. However, that at least shows their attitude and I will respect them. I would believe that they meant it when they said they wanted to apologize. In the future, as long as they don't annoy me again, I won't be hard on them. But how can I forgive them when they have no respect for me? They intended very well to expect me to put in a good word for them with you. They think they are so smart."
"I used to be too tolerant of them. I never warned them, so they went out of the boundary. They thought they could achieve everything using my name. I should be held responsible for that." Julien said in a hushed voice.
It was Julien who allowed the McDaniel family to use his influence.
Therefore, Julien believed that he was responsible for the McDaniel family's wrongdoings and that he should have warned the McDaniel family if they made a mistake.
But Julien never paid attention to the McDaniel family's behaviors. He trusted them.
He never restrained them. He never had any doubts about them.
However, his indulgence of the McDaniel family made them so outrageous that they thought Julien would be blind even if they annoyed Sydney.
Julien thought he was guilty to Sydney for that.
Hearing Julien blame himself, Sydney sighed, "I don't know how to make you feel better. No matter what I say, you feel responsible. I’m not going to deal with the McDaniel family. It's all in your hands. Don't let me down."
Sydney had turned Clay down once. She guessed they wouldn't come back to her again.
She didn't want to deal with the McDaniel family. It was a relief for her to leave them to Julien.
Julien knew Sydney was considerate of him. She knew Julien wanted to give this matter a proper closure. He felt warm inside. He gave a serious look and said, "OK, I won't let you down."
"Okay. Have you had lunch yet?" Sydney asked.
Julien rubbed his brows and replied, "Not yet. A business partner just came to visit from abroad. I've been talking to him."
"Why haven't you had lunch at this late hour?" Sydney frowned and complained, "I'm not talking to you. Have Zach bring your lunch. Eat your lunch first. You can't starve yourself."
Julien laughed at Sydney's concern.
Sydney grimaced, "Why are you laughing? I'm hanging up. Have Zach get you lunch. We'll talk when you are back home."
"Okay." Julien responded.
After hanging up, Julien turned to Zach and said, "Did you hear Leaf?"
Zach nodded. "Yes, Mr. Flint. I'll have your lunch delivered to the office soon."
Then Zach took out his cell phone and sent a message.
Zach intended to have Julien’s lunch delivered after Julien finished his work like he used to do.
However, when Sydney just called and asked about it, Zach hadn't had the lunch delivered to Julien's office yet.
Zach decided that in the future he would arrange Julien's lunch on time whether Julien finished his work or not.
'Once Ms. Raines is happy, Mr. Flint will be happy. Once Mr. Flint is happy, he'll give me a raise.'
Zach was so excited and his eyes sparkled at the thought.
Julien had no idea what Zach was thinking. After hanging up with Sydney, he put the phone down and was about to give Zach some instructions. Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Zach looked at the door and suggested, "Mr. Flint, I'll get it."
Julien nodded.
Zach put his cell phone away, walked to the door, and opened it.
At the door was a secretary in a suit.
Seeing Zach, the secretary immediately bowed respectfully and asked, "May I ask if Mr. Flint is in?"
"What’s the matter?" Zach asked.
The secretary pulled a folder out of his armpit, pulled out a golden invitation, and handed it to Zach, "This is an invitation for Mr. Flint from the McDaniel family."
"What?" Zach was surprised. "Where did it come from? the McDaniel family?"
"Yes," the secretary nodded and replied, "it came from the McDaniel family."
'What do they want?'
Zach rolled his eyes and asked, "What invitation did the McDaniel family send? What do they want?"
The secretary replied with a smile, "It's the McDaniel family's butler who came to deliver the invitation. He said that Miss McDaniel is back home and that the McDaniel family is throwing a party in her honor. They wanted to introduce Miss McDaniel to people, so they would know her. When he sent the invitation, he said that Mr. McDaniel wanted Mr. Flint to be there with Ms. Raines."
Zach gave a smug. "So it's a party for Erin."
Zach fiddled with the invitation and muttered, "They're throwing a party for their daughter. Everyone knows the McDaniel family has a daughter. Do they need to throw a party to introduce her to people? I think they're throwing this party just to invite Mr. Flint and try to get him to forgive them. Thank you. You can get back to work. I'll give the invitation to Mr. Flint."
"All right." The secretary nodded and then turned to walk away.
Zach closed the door behind him and took the invitation to Julien.
Julien overheard the conversation between the secretary and Zach, so Zach didn't explain about the invitation when he gave it to Julien.
Julien opened the invitation. Then he frowned and threw it in the trash can.
Zach asked, "Mr. Flint, are you going to that party?"
"No." Julien replied indifferently as he closed the drawer.
Zach was not surprised.
Since Julien had thrown the invitation in the trash can, he had no intention of attending it.
Zach didn't ask any more questions.
Suddenly, Julien commanded, "Find out when Erin got back?"
"Okay." Zach nodded and then turned to go out.
After Zach left, Julien leaned back in his chair, crossed his fingers in front of his stomach, narrowed his eyes slightly, and got lost in thought.
After Sydney finished her call with Julien, she also got back to her work again.
Later, Luke came to visit her.
Luke brought a large basket. Sydney was surprised. She stood up and asked, "What brings you here?"
"My mom went to see my grandma yesterday and she brought these mushrooms back from the countryside. She knows you love mushrooms, so she asked me to bring you these." Luke showed the basket to Sydney.
Sydney's mouth dropped open in surprise. "So much?" She pointed to the basket.
Luke looked down at the basket. "Do you think it's too much?"
"Don't you think it's too much?" Sydney asked rhetorically, "I guess it's got to be over ten pounds."
