Chapter 20 - The Switch
When she came back, the dance floor was not as crowded as it was before. She pulled Kristoff up. Fortunately, he didn't refuse.
Lyken was left on the table. He even positioned himself in a way that he could clearly see the dance floor.
Everyone was dancing happily but after six songs, the DJ's playlist changed. Steve, Robin, Ada, and Bambi went back to the table. That means Kobe and Honey are still dancing with them. Kristoff pulled her closer to him as he smiled. She returned his sweet smile, then he moved his mouth close to her ear and whispered, "You look beautiful tonight. It's a pleasure being your date." She moved away to be able to look at his face. His eyes were mesmerizing. She feels like she's being sucked into him.
Jada kissed Kristoff while they were dancing. It's a slow and passionate kiss. She could feel his grip on her waist tighten, so she pulled him closer. They were both gasping for air when they let go. "I love you, Jada," he muttered.
The woman felt like she was doused with ice-cold water. Even the effects of tequila were washed off of her. This can't be. This isn't the right time.
Her heart's still filled with anger and she doesn't want to use him just to continue her revenge against Lyken. She can't hurt Kristoff.
'But how can I tell him the truth? How can I admit to him that I haven't really moved on from the man who hurt me? How can I let him know of my plans and why I'm exacting revenge against Lyken Fontanilla?' She knew that even if she didn't want to, he'd get hurt in the process. But with the happiness she's feeling at this moment, she can't think of any solution.
Meanwhile, Lyken couldn't stop watching Jada and Kristoff. He felt like someone was cutting his heart, bit by bit, as they started kissing while dancing.
He wanted to pull Jada out of the bar and away from the man. However, he cannot muster the courage to do it.
He doesn't even have the right to do that to her. Their situation right now is already complicated and he knew there was a deeper reason why this was happening to them. Lyken tried closing his eyes but they wouldn't cooperate. Even his entire system's forcing him to watch them for him to realize what's there between Jada and him.
She's too close yet too far. He felt like no matter what he did, he couldn't and wouldn't be able to get a hold of her and try to suppress the anger she had towards him.
And because of the pain he was feeling, he chose to leave. Lyken sends Kobe a message that he's leaving first and he'll just wait for them at Honey's condo.
He didn't bother waiting for his response. If they saw what was going on between Jada and Kristoff, they'd know why he chose to leave.
Lyken went straight to their condo building but he didn't get out of the car. He checked his phone and saw that there were unread messages.
Kobe: Are you okay man? We're on our way home too.
Honey: Ly are you okay? I'm sure she has an explanation for all this.
Bambi: You'r3 100 h4nds0m3 to ch4s3 4ft3r J4d4. Th4t by0tch d03$n't d3$3rv3 you!
Lyken couldn't help but chuckle after reading Bambi's message. He had a hard time deciphering it but he understood.
Letting out a sigh, he punched his steering wheel. He'd been trying to think of a way to make Jada confess to what was happening to her, but he couldn't think of anything.
He wanted to hear from her what happened that led to this. Although he already had a faint idea, he still wanted her to be the one to say it.
Whenever Lyken thinks about it, he feels like he's about to go crazy. Especially when he thinks of the possibility that they won't be able to fix things between them.
The thought that we'll be separated forever brings me unbearable pain. But what she's doing with another man in front of me is just as painful.
As he was busy thinking about all their what-ifs, he fell asleep inside the car. He was woken up by Kobe's non-stop tapping on his shoulder.
"Let's go upstairs, Ly," Honey told him.
He nodded at her before he stepped out of the car and followed them. They went straight to Jada's unit, as it is bigger than Honey's. That's why it became the group's hangout.
When they got there, Jada was not home yet. Everyone's there except for her and Kristoff. He was disappointed but he can only shrug it off.
"Did you follow her earlier?" Kobe asked and he nodded.
"What happened?" Steve pried.
Letting out a sigh, he looked at his friends one by one. He doesn't want to tell them anything, he doesn't know how to. But he does need their help.
"I don't know anymore, I'm confused. When I saw her kissing Kristoff, I felt like I'd burst into anger, so I followed her. I pulled her to the back room so I could talk to her, confront her," as soon as he started telling them what happened, he already felt like crying.
Lyken paused for a while, undecided whether he should tell them everything or not. If it was right to let them know exactly what Jada did. He was a bit hesitant but he had to.
"Instead of a confrontation... she gave me a head," and they all gasped.
"Then what?" Bambi asked impatiently.
"I didn't want to do it, so I tried stopping her. B-But then she said something," he muttered, not even sure if they heard him clearly or not. He could see their confused looks.
His hands were shaking as he told them what had happened. A couple more words out of his mouth and his tears will soon start streaming down.
"She almost begged me to let it be her this time," Lyken cupped his face after telling them that.
No matter how hard he tried, his tears didn't let him stop them. When the words Jada told him came out of his mouth, that was only when he realized that she had seen everything that night.
Lyken was fuming mad. Not to anyone else, but himself. He can't believe that he let the woman he loved get hurt by his infidelity.
She saw how he cheated on her and how he did it with a woman he had just met. He couldn't believe that she had been through that kind of pain and endured it in the past few years.
"So she knew," Kobe stated, breaking the silence, but he couldn't respond to him. He wanted to say something but no words would come out of his mouth.
"B-But how did she know that?" Honey asked. She looked like she was about to break down.

"I-I have no idea. I don't know how she saw that or how she found out. But I'm sure she knows. She saw how I did it with another woman and that caused our breakup." Lyken's heart felt like it was being shattered to pieces as he told them that. They all fell quiet for a few minutes until the door to Jada's unit swung open. "Woah! Are you guys having a meeting? You didn't even wait for me?" she exclaimed when she saw that they were all there, huddling in her living room. "Wow, byotch! Stop assuming!" Ada snapped as he winked at them.
Jada eyed him before looking at the rest of the group, one by one. "I smell something fishy," then she clicked her tongue.
She walked towards the kitchen and Lyken followed her. Kobe tried to stop Lyken but Honey stopped Kobe.
When Jada turned around, she was surprised to see Lyken standing by the entrance to her kitchen. She shot her eyebrows up at him but he didn't speak immediately, so she just started pouring water into the glass.
"What do you think you're doing, Jadanela?" he asked, trying his best not to sound shaky. His voice was louder than normal, so he was sure the people in the living room heard him.
"Drinking water," she answered sarcastically.
"You know that's not what I meant," he sneered.
Jada glared at him. Her eyes were telling him that it wasn't the right time and place to talk about whatever it was he wanted to talk about. But Lyken can't be stopped. "You fucking know what I'm talking about," he yelled, provoking and pressuring her to respond.
Lyken felt Kobe's presence, standing behind him. He also noticed Jada looking at them. She let out a sigh, crossed her arms on her chest, and looked straight at the man. "I don't know anything, Ly, care to enlighten me?" she asked casually. Her reaction makes him feel irritated. She's acting like she can't be bothered about anything. "You kissed Kristoff, you gave me a head, then you kissed him again. What the fuck was that?" Lyken asked through gritted teeth.
"Aw, why? You didn't like it? I guess I need more practice," she smirked.
"Are you playing with us?" he yelled again.
She was picking at her nails but after hearing what Lyken said, she slowly put down her hands and turned her head to face him. Then she smiled at Lyken mockingly.
