Chapter 216 Heartbroken

“It’s alright now.” Nicholas reassured. He still bore the scars from the knife attack and his injuries were not healing properly. He didn’t want Nancy to see them, knowing she would worry given her current

state.

“I don’t believe you. I have to see for myself,” she insisted. Her hand gripped his clothes, ready to unbutton them.

But he quickly grabbed her hand and smirked. “Nancy, you’re quite eager to undress me and examine my body. Why the rush? Once I’m discharged, I’ll find a time for you to slowly undress me and look as much as you want. You can touch wherever you desire.”

His words were suggestive, leaving much to the imagination.

Nancy blushed at his words. “Nicholas Sallow, you… stop talking like that.” She reached out and covered. his mouth. “You know I didn’t mean it that way.”

“Well, maybe my thoughts aren’t so innocent. When you mentioned helping me undress, that’s what came to mind,” he replied mischievously.

Embarrassed, she playfully warned him, “You… stop saying such things. I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Well, Miss Nancy Cohen, do you still want to undress me?”

“N-No,” she stuttered.

But after saying it, she felt something was off. She only wanted to check his injuries and reassure herself that he was fine. Why did he keep stopping her?

There must be a reason. No, it’s his injuries. He must still be injured, and they’re not as harmless as he claimed.

This time, she decided to be smart and wait until Nicholas fell asleep. As she unbuttoned his shirt, her palms grew sweaty and her hands trembled slightly. On one hand, she worried about the severity of his injuries. On the other hand, she couldn’t help but remember his words about her eagerness to see his body.

Although she didn’t mean it that way, it was natural for him to have naughty thoughts when a woman undressed a man! Especially since she had never undressed him like this before. Their two years of marriage had not been filled with many intimate moments. Even when they were intimate, he would undress himself. She was too shy to look at him, let alone unbutton his clothes.

As Nancy thought about this, her heart raced and her face grew redder. She held her breath, trying not to disturb him. But when she was down to the last two buttons, Nicholas let out a soft moan. Her heart skipped a beat, and her fingers froze on his skin.

Startled, she held her breath, afraid of being discovered. After what felt like an eternity, she continued once she was sure he was deeply asleep. When she lowered her head, she noticed her fingers had stopped on his toned waist.

Her chest tightened. Why did she feel so dry-mouthed?

Nancy Cohen, when did you become so foolish? Don’t forget the real purpose here: you’re checking if he’s injured.

She scolded herself silently before continuing to unbutton his shirt. With all the buttons undone, she gently started to open his shirt.

In the room’s soft light, she could see clearly. When she saw his smooth chest free from any noticeable injuries, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed like he was recovering well.

Her heart finally calmed.

But just as she was about to button his shirt back up, she noticed something on his waist. There was a distinct, curving protrusion. Instantly, her heart sank.

She reached out and gently touched the protrusion with her fingers. At that moment, Nicholas shifted. in his sleep, turning onto his side.

This angle was better for Nancy, and she brushed aside his shirt. As the fabric revealed the wounds on his back, tears welled up in her eyes. The wounds crisscrossed and almost covered his entire back. Two particular scars were deep and long, winding and curving like centipedes crawling on his skin.

She broke down instantly.

To avoid waking him, she stifled her sobs behind her hand, but her heart ached for him. The scars were a painful reminder, and she couldn’t help but imagine the extent of his injury and the danger he had faced.

If she hadn’t asked him today, would he have kept it all to himself? The more she thought about it, the more her heart hurt.

Unable to hold back any longer, she reached out, her gentle fingers lightly touching the crisscrossing: scars. “I’m sorry, Nick. You were in so much pain and danger, and I couldn’t be there with you. It must have been excruciating when you got these… Do they still hurt?”

Her tears continued to fall. In a moment of carelessness, a tear dropped onto one of his scars.

Panicked, Nancy quickly wiped it away. Tears were liquid, and they were warm. She didn’t want to wake him.

But the more she wiped, the more her tears flowed. They seemed endless.

She felt heartbroken, overwhelmed by her emotions. And so, her tears continued to drip onto his

wounds.

Suddenly, Nancy made a decision. She leaned down, her lips getting closer to him, and gently kissed his scars one by one, as if her kisses could ease his pain.

As the warmth of her kisses washed over Nicholas, he shuddered. In reality, he had woken touched his wounds earlier. But he was afraid that if he woke up, she would ask about what happened. And if she knew, it would only break her heart even more.

So he pretended to be asleep, like a clueless sleeping beauty.

But he never expected Nancy to lean down and kiss his scars. He had seen those winding and deep

moment her lips touched his scars, his heart felt a fiery warmth, like a blazing fire.

“Nancy…” Unable to hold back any longer, he softly called out her name.

Her tears welled up even more upon hearing his voice. “You fool, why didn’t you inform me about your

severe injury? Are you in pain? Do you still experience discomfort?”
