Rejected By Him Claimed By His Uncle (Rita and Leo)

Chapter 114

Throughout that night, I could barely sleep. I thought of nothing but Aunt Freya's strange words and Atlas's advice to pay heed to her words.

"Why aren't you sleeping?"

I faked a yawn when I heard Emma's question. "Of course, I am sleeping," I lied. "Why aren't you sleeping yet?"

"Because you aren't," Emma replied and I felt bad immediately. Perhaps, I should have let her have her own room.

I wrapped my arms around her and made her place her head on my chest. "Sleep. So, you'll wake up early tomorrow."

I took my own advice and finally slept off.

The next day, I had one of the best days of my life. I was able to spend time with Emma, Aunt Freya, Atlas and his parents. Even though a part of me felt like something was missing, I felt a greater sense of fulfillment than ever before. Zara was nowhere to be found and I decided to check her room. Even if I had accepted her as my aunt, I still had to act like I

did.

gave a soft knock on her door.

"Who is there?" She asked, but I said nothing in reply. Then she added, "Just come in. The door is open."

I pushed the door open and walked inside the room. She was on her bed, knitting and she flashed me a smile.

"To what do we owe this visit?" She asked and I looked around her room.

"Just wanted to check up on you," I said.

She pointed to the sofa. "Please sit," She said. She got out of her bed, brought out a bottle of wine and a glass. She poured the wine into the glass and handed it over to me.

Í looked at the wine, then at her and I raised an eyebrow. "You're my guest. So, why are you giving me wine?"

"You came to check up on me. I'm usually always ignored. It might seem weird to you, but this is how I feel I did thank you."

I nodded, looked at the wine and brought the glass to my mouth but I did not drink it. I acted like I did though.

In this pack, I grew up to learn that it was stupid to take wine from strangers. Especially strangers that seem off. She claimed to be my aunty. Yes. But, I could not see her as one.

I began to walk around the room and when I got to a flower pot, I walked around it.

When Zara was not looking, I emptied some of the content of the wine into the sand of the flower pot and moved away from the pot.

I walked back to the sofa. After a few minutes, I began to form clumsiness and then pretended like I passed out.

I heard her walk toward me. Her footsteps were slow. It was like the steps of someone expecting this. When she got to me, she crouched before me. I paused breathing and placed her finger underneath my nose. I felt her become stiff and she slapped the glass and the remaining wine to the ground.

"Oh my goddess!" She exclaimed. Then, she began to shout. "Help."

I was confused. I was expecting her to try to strangle me or something. Why was she calling for help?

After a few minutes of shouting, I heard the door swing open and I was immediately carried away from the room.

I tried my best not to move a muscle as I was carried away from Zara's room to my room.

"Elaina," I heard Atlas call out. From his voice, I could tell that he was very worried about me. I was not expecting this situation to happen. Aunt Freya was brought to check me. "Leave her with me," I heard her say.

"Aunt Freya, I-"

"Atlas, you should join your mom and dad to look after Emma, so the little girl won't notice that something is wrong. I can take care of Elaina. Or, don't you trust me again?" "Fine, I will leave," Atlas said and I heard him leave. I heard the footsteps of others, possibly the guards that brought me in here.

I laid still for close to five minutes but Aunt Freya did not touch me. I could feel her eyes on me instead.

"You can open your eyes and quit pretending. They are all gone, Aunt Freya said.

My eyes flung open in surprise and she smirked.

"Why are you pretending to be unconscious?" She asked. I sat up straight and threw my hands in the air in surrender.

"I'll tell you everything."

"I'm listening."

"I was thinking my aunt, Zara, was trying to poison me, so I acted like I drank the wine she gave me and feigned unconsciousness. I was expecting her to try to strangle me, but she called for help instead. Till now, I can't help but feel that, she has sinister plans and I feel bad."

"Well, you might be right." Aunt Freya shrugged. "By the way, prevention is better than cure. Who knows? The mine might have been really poisoned."

"Would you tell the Alpha this?"

"Of course not. That will be stupid. If that she-wolf is really trying to poison you, the fact that you faked drinking her drink will alert her. So, this will be our little secret."

I smiled and then my face fell. "What if she is innocent? She will be accused falsely of trying to poison me."

"Then, don't let the Alpha accuse her. In front of Zara, tell him that you might have gotten poisoned elsewhere. Zara will think you're on her side, but we both know that you're just trying to figure out what she is up to."

I smiled. Atlas was right. Anyone that does not like Aunt Freya is just not a good person. She was the best

Later that evening, Zara was questioned. She told the Alpha everything that happened and like Aunt Freya suggested, I countered Alpha Atlas when he tried to accuse Zara of poisoning me.

"Zara, I understand that Elaina became unconscious after taking your drink. If that is the case, I'm looking at the possibility that you spiked her drink."

"Her drink was not the only thing I had taken that evening. By the way, I barely drank the wine she gave me. Zara has no hand in me getting poisoned."

I could see the shock in Zara's face when I defended her.

"Elaina, what are you saying? You got unconscious after taking her drink." Concern was written all over his face and I found my heart aching for lying this much to him.

If I told him everything that really happened, Zara would not have been blamed after all. So, instead of letting him punish her, I decided to act as a savior so if she was truly planning to do anything sinister, she would think that I was stupid enough to be on her side. Plus, I would not end up just framing an innocent aunt if she turned out to be saying the truth.

"Atlas, I know what I am saying. My aunt has no hands in this."

He eyed Zara with a frown on his face, then he turned to me. "If you don't think it is your aunt, who do you think it is?"
