Chapter 48
Chapter 48
Winona and her mother, Mildred, were upstairs looking at clothes when she felt uneasy. She noticed Mikayla was missing and couldn’t find Jaxon either. Nervous, she went to the garden and saw Jaxon hugging Mikayla. ‘He still has feelings for her. Mikayla, aren’t you engaged to Carlos? And yet, you didn’t stop Jaxon. Don’t you feel any shame? Winona thought as she quickly returned inside.
now, but
In the chilly air, Mikayla and Jaxon stood facing each other. Watching Winona leave, Mikayla smiled. She didn’t have time to deal with her making things difficult for her wouldn’t hurt. Since you had gone to such extremes, then don’t blame me for being ruthless in the future, she thought.
“Do you honestly think you can offer me
Winona now and have a son together thing Carlos can’t? Jaxon, as I said before, let’s end this on good terms. Now that you’re married to
can only be my cousin’s husband, Mikayla said, walking away.
“Cousin’s husband?” Jaxon laughed self–deprecatingly. “Mikayla, you’ll be mine eventually! I know you promised a 30% increase in performance at the Salvatore Group’s board meeting. Only I can help you achieve it!”
“How do you plan to help me?” Mikayla asked, her voice soft. Without waiting for an answer, she walked off. She had what she needed to know. ‘If it’s not Jaxon, who could it be? Or am I overthinking this” she wondered
When Winona and Jaxon got back to their home, it was late. The only servant they brought from Winona’s parents‘ house had already gone to bed. Jaxon, who had a low alcohol tolerance, quickly fell into a deep sleep, leaving Winona to clean him up. Pregnant and exhausted, she washed climbed into bed. She couldn’t sleep, thinking about what she had seen in her parents‘ garden. Stroking Jaxon’s face, she thought. I’ve been in love
up and with him for over a decade. No one can love him more than I do. Mikayla, you might be the Salvatore Group’s heiress, but I’ll make your life hell. Jaxon will love me unconditionally once you’re out of the picture. And then everything will be perfect.
Just then, Jaxon turned over, opened his eyes, and stared at the woman in front of him. The next second, he kissed Winona’s lips and pinned her under his body.
Winona winced as she felt a sharp pain and tasted blood from his rough kisses. “Jaxon be gentle!” she pleaded, thinking about her early pregnancy. In bed, she felt they were a perfect match. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so attached to her. Desire filled the room under the blue silk quilt.
“Mikayla…” Jaxon moaned, lost in the moment.
Winona’s hands, which had been clinging to Jaxon’s back, dropped weakly to his shoulders.
“Mikayla, I love your Jaxon blurted.
Winona lay on the bed, staring blankly at the white ceiling as tears streamed down her face.
The next day, Mikayla woke up refreshed, unaffected by the previous night’s events. She got to the office early and reached out to Maxius, who was in another city. After that, she checked on the work progress of her team. As always with the Salvatore Group employees, they were impressively efficient. Just then, Quinnlyn knocked and came in, making Mikayla look up, confused,
“Ms. Salvatore, your cousin is causing a commotion in the sales department, Quinnlyn said urgently,
Recently, Mikayla had instructed Quinnlyn to pay extra attention to the sales department during her regular duties, fearing Huxley might cause trouble. The sales department was the best place to train new employees, but it was also the toughest at the start, especially for someone as arrogant as Huxley.
Mikayla frowned. “Does Mr. Salvatore know?”
“I came to you immediately,” Quinnlyn replied. “It shouldn’t have reached Mr. Salvatore yet.”
Mikayla put away the documents on her desk and stood up. “Let’s go.”
The marketing and sales departments were just two floors apart, so it didn’t take long to reach the sales department. On the way, Quinnlyn filled Mikayla in. The sales manager had given Huxley a market research project, and his report was full of flaws and plagiarism from the internet. When the manager called him out on it, Huxley lost it, breaking things and claiming he’d soon be the Salvatore Group’s heir and would fire the manager. In reality, despite Logan saying Huxley had worked hard the night before, he had just cut corners. When Mikayla arrived, the sales manager’s office
was crowded.
“I quit! Who do you think you are?” Huxley, young and impulsive, couldn’t stand being scolded by the manager and flew into a rage.
“Huxley!” The manager was just as infuriated. He wouldn’t have bothered training Huxley if Jorge hadn’t asked him to.
Just as Huxley was about to retort, a woman’s voice cut through the noise. “Huxley! What are you doing?”
Huxley turned around to see Mikayla step out from the crowd. Dressed in formal attire, she looked both elegant and commanding.
“What are you doing here! Here to laugh at me?” Huxley spat out sarcastically.
“I don’t have time for that, Mikayla replied, her gaze darkening as she saw the papers scattered all over the floor. She turned respectfully to the man sitting in the office chair. “Mr. Rogers”
She had previously reviewed the company’s personnel files and was aware that the sales department was led by two managers. Nelson Rogers had risen from a regular sales employee to his current position through his own efforts. Anyone working for him would receive excellent training, given his reputation for integrity and extensive experience. Nelson also trained Eric, whom she had chosen back then.
“What brings you here?” Nelson asked, clearly fed up with those from the Salvatore family, likely because of Huxley’s behavior. Nelson, around 40, had a slightly protruding belly.
Mikayla squatted and picked up the documents from the floor. Quinnlyn quickly followed her lead. Huxley raised his chin, looking down on Mikayla, thinking she was a fool. Before long, they had gathered most of the documents. Mikayla stood up and neatly placed the files on the desk. “Please forgive him, Mr. Rogers,” she pleaded.
Nelson had heard of Mikayla before but had never interacted with her. However, Nelson couldn’t help but admire her actions earlier. In the business world. Huxley’s arrogance was the worst, whereas Mikayla’s calm and measured demeanor truly commanded respect.
“Huxley, apologize to Mr. Rogers, Mikayla demanded.
