Rebirth 13

Yvette quickly stepped in to stop Selena. "Ms. Sanchez is Xavier's ex-wife. Kicking her out like this wouldn't be proper. We have extra rooms, and if it comes down to it, we can let her stay with us for a bit." The security guard glanced at the simply dressed Yasmine with a hint of disdain. He figured she was just another ex-wife trying to cling to her rich ex-husband, Yasmine ignored their judgment and replied, "That's not necessary."

She grabbed her suitcase and left. But suddenly, dark clouds rolled in, and rain started pouring down. Looking at the battery which was at two percent, she couldn't help but let out a bitter chuckle. Surrounded by trees, she had no place to take cover from the rain. Soaked to the bone, she looked utterly miserable.

Just then, a luxury Cayenne pulled up beside her, and Yonas walked over with a black umbrella. Under his umbrella, it felt. like the rain vanished.

"Ms. Sanchez, what a coincidence, Yonas said, smiling warmly at the drenched Yasmine.

If a handsome guy like him approached with an offer of protection from the rain, it could make anyone's heart race. But Yasmine felt only a brief flutter before saying resignedly. "It's quite the coincidence. Mr. Russell, can you give me a ride!" Yonas didn't answer directly. His deep eyes swept over her before he said gently, "Just get in the car."

Once inside, the warmth of the car wrapped around her, easing the chill. Yonas handed her a towel while he focused on some papers.

Yasmine took the towel and wiped the rain from her hair, lost in thought. She could tell he was well-cultivated from those considerate gestures. They'd only met a few times, but every time he'd come to her rescue, he'd been so gentle. Did he do all this for his sister?" she thought, yet soon, the car stopped in front of an apartment building. Yonas' smooth voice broke through. "It's pouring outside, and you're soaked. Get you changed before heading back." Yasmine looked up into his warm, caring eyes. For a moment, she hesitated to refuse him, and she found herself nodding slowly

The apartment wasn't far from Silver Oak Villa, and she figured that was why he brought her here,

As they entered, Yasmine was pleasantly surprised by the bright interior. The light blue wallpaper with fluffy clouds lifted her spirits. She blinked, barely believing this was Yonas' place.

A middle-aged woman stepped out, her face lighting up. "Mr. Yonas, what brings you here? Who's this young lady?"

"Linda, this is my friend Yasmine. She needs a place to freshen up." Yonas explained.

Linda retrieved a pair of slippers quickly. "Come in! I'll find you some clothes and brew some ginger tea for you."

Yonas nodded at Linda and then turned to Yasmine, his voice warm. "This is Yoselin's place. It's close to Aurelith University, where she attends, and Linda takes care of her here." Yasmine understood. Suddenly, Yonas' phone chimed. "Sorry, I need to take this call," he said, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Yasmine's gaze drifted to a painting on the wall. It was soothing autumn leaves falling, warm sunlight streaming in, and two girls hand in hand on a swing, laughing joyfully.

Her fingers brushed the surface of the painting when Yonas' deep voice came from behind her. "That's Yoselin's work."

Yasmine turned to see him looking at her, his eyes filled with deep emotion-an intensity that almost tugged at her heart. But in a flash, bis expression brightened, revealing a gentle charm. Curiosity piqued, she asked sofily, "Mr. Russell, is the girl in the painting Yoselin?"

Yonas nodded, a smile touching his lips. "She painted that when she was fourteen, before she got sick."

"What about the other girl?" Yasmine required, intrigued.
