Chapter 57
She recounted the incident of her saving the daughter of Scott’s cousin, including the details of Olivia’s arrival in Horizon City and even Olivia’s visit.
Naomi’s expression remained calm as she spoke, reflecting her calm mental state. The past was behind her, and she would not dwell on it any longer. What she cherished was the present and the
future.
“Heh! Is that woman so insecure? She still comes to flaunt herself in front of you even when you’ve divorced him! Does Scott really care about such a woman?” Amelia sneered, showing just how contemptuous she was.
Naomi knew that Amelia was looking at people through a filter with a strong subjective consciousness. She smiled and said, “It doesn’t matter; it has nothing to do with me. I’ve ended things with him, and I no longer have any attachment to him. Whatever they say or do in front of me doesn’t affect me.”
Amelia clapped loudly, then looked at Naomi with great admiration.
The puzzled Naomi asked, “What’s going on?“.
Amelia gave Naomi a thumbs up, expressing deep admiration.
“I was worried that you might be hurt because of that scumbag, I was concerned you’d be devastated, deceive yourself, and be left with a big scar in your heart. It turns out you’re fine, though. You can even let go so easily. That’s truly amazing!”
Naomi was taken aback, then looked at Amelia’s exaggerated expression and could not help but
chuckle.
“And what was I supposed to do? Should I mourn every day over the past, appearing fragile and vulnerable?” Naomi shook her head. “I’m not that kind of person. I’m more practical.”
“Great! Exactly! That’s the spirit! Drive that couple crazy! Don’t act like you can’t live without them! If you want to live, you have to live brilliantly!”
Gone was Amelia’s concern and replaced with excitement. Not a trace of her anger remained. She began to curse the couple, the words pouring out like a torrent as if holding back any would suffocate
her.
Naomi felt helpless. She tried to stop Amelia several times to no avail, so she had to let Amelia vent.
“Phew! All right, I feel refreshed now. Alright, let’s talk about Charles now.” Saying this, Amelia pulled her chair closer, leaning in toward Naomi with a mischievous smile. “You see, Charles is interested in you.”
Naomi knew she would bring this up and prepared a response. She calmly replied, “Larles is a good
person, excellent in every aspect. However, I don’t have that kind of feeling for him at the moment.”
“No problem! Feelings can be cultivated. Take your time. Look at our parents‘ generation: Many married after just one meeting, and they’re still happily living their lives.”
Naomi nodded and said, “I know.
“Yeah, my previous marriage was a failure, but I still want to get married… Not now, though: I need tim “It was too short. She needed time to transition, especially with her slow–to–warm–up nature.
Amelia understood Naomi. She could easily distinguish truth from falsehood in her words. Naomi was sincere and had no reason to deceive her.
Amelia patted Naomi’s shoulder with a smile. “So, does this mean Charles has a chance?”
Seeing her smile, Naomi could not help but smile as well. Somewhat helplessly, she said, “Haven’t you figured it out already?”
As she mentioned earlier, she was practical. She was hot dreamy or blindly infatuated for the sake of love. She wanted a fulfilling marriage, a complete family, a child, and a simple life until old age.
Her relationship with Scott had no good ending, but she had no regrets as she had tried her best. Therefore, after the divorce, should she meet someone suitable and feel it was possible, she would give it a try.
Amelia’s words from last night made her think a lot. If Charles liked her, she might consider it.
