Chapter 349 There Is A Way
Chapter 349 There Is A Way
The story made Joseph’s identity clear. Joseph’s parents were the only people who knew his real identity.
Rebekah was still speaking. She looked pale and sorrowful.
“I was reminded of the history whenever I saw Joseph all those years. I also felt guilty in the face of my brother, so I usually went outside and seldom stayed at home. That was why Joseph was not close to me. Of course, It was also the reason that I left him later.”
Rebekah didn’t want to ruin Henry’s life, so he was waiting for the right woman. She would divorce Henry whenever there was such a woman.
However, years passed, and there was still no right woman for Henry. He even never paid attention to women.
“He loved you.” Hayden couldn’t help warning, “Didn’t you find it?”
Henry wouldn’t hold the marriage for more than ten years even though he wanted to help his sister. There was no reason for his insistence except that he loved Rebekah.
“Definitely I found it.” Rebekah mocked herself.
“No one can hide love when they stay with their lover. He would drive me back from the station or airport whenever I got back to the city. All the meals he cooked were my favorite. Even Joseph tried to get close to me even though she was not familiar to me.”
“So why?” Hayden was confused.
“Because I hated myself, and looked down on myself. Henry was the most perfect man in this world. He was gentle, good-tempered, and had a good family. I was already a mother, so how could I be a
match for him.”
Rebekah sighed then, and looked regretful.
“I realized what I thought was wrong soon, but it was too late.”
“...”
The story was over, but Hayden was immersed in it. She didn’t ask anything. She just sat there and looked at the photos. In the last photo, Rebekah and Henry were standing on the mountain. She held his arm, and both of them smiled happily. Henry was looking at Rebekah, and his eyes were full of love.
There was the date on the corner of the photo. Hayden was stunned as she saw the date. It seemed that Henry died not so long after that day.
She began to know Rebekah’s meaning. It was really too late.
Rebekah touched the old photo, and continued.
“When we took this photo, he said to me that we should take Benjamin and our dad together to take a family photo, after Benjamin was born.”
However, fate made a trick.
After a long silence, Hayden was finally reminded of what Rebekah said before she told the story.
“You said it was Zed who made Mr. Beckham die?”
Rebekah clenched her fists when she heard this. The flame of anger flashed in her eyes.
“It was him. He divorced his wife and came to find me. I didn’t agree with him. To get rid of him, I went climbing the mountain. He followed me to the mountain. If Henry didn’t get there in time, I would have
died with that bastard. Then Zed ran away, and the brakes on Henry’s car failed when he went downhill. His car hit the parapet, but it still fell down from the mountain. The police said it was a made accident. I knew it must be Zed who made it.”
“Did you tell this to the police?”
“I did, but I have no evidence. Zed disappeared again at that time, so even the police didn’t find him.”
Hayden knew what had happened then.
Joseph had told this to her before. When Joseph was thirteen, he saw a man harass his mother at home. Then his mother went outside with that man. He followed then and heard some words like “pregnant”, “baby”, or something. Little Joseph didn’t know what they meant, but then through the police after his father died, he knew it.
Thirteen-year-old Joseph went to the hospital, and investigated the truth of his mother’s pregnancy. He was irritated. Then he drove his mother out of the family at his father’s funeral.
All the truths were clear now, but Hayden still didn’t know what she should ask.
She knew there was a reason for Rebekah to leave the family, but Rebekah’s sorrow was not enough to compare with Joseph’s misery of losing his mother as a kid.
Actually, Hayden was on Joseph’s side, and thought Joseph’s mother was wrong.
However, she still felt sorry for Rebekah. Rebekah lived so hard all these years. She entered the malicious world just after leaving the cozy family. She was cheated and gave the wrong birth to a baby. Then she finally found the right one years later, but it was too late. She was driven away from the family by her son, and lived alone with the other son outside. She had been mocked and disdained by people these years.
“So that bastard threatened you with Joseph’s identity, right?”
Rebekah nodded and then explained.
“I know you’re a kind girl, but I don’t want Joseph to know about the history. I didn’t get close to him when he was young. It was his father who raised him up, so he has strong feelings for his father. He will be miserable if he knows Henry is not his father. And my dad, I can’t let him know about this, since he is too old.”
“Why don’t you think of yourself?”
Hayden frowned, “And what about Benjamin? Do you make up your mind not to ask for their help even if we have no other way? Benjamin is you and Mr. Beckham’s son.”
It seemed that Benjamin was the only son of the Beckham family now.
However, in Rebekah and Henry’s minds, Joseph was also their son. They even never thought of those dirty fights to get the power between the two sons in such a big family.
“There will be ways.”
Rebekah said this, and then she was reminded of something. Her eyes turned bright, “There is a way.”
She hurriedly held Hayden’s hand, “Please help me to find Mr. Shell in Nanking Treasures And Antique. I want to give him something and ask him to evaluate its price.”
“Treasures And Antique in Nanking, the antique store?”
“Yes.” Rebekah strode to the closet by the bed, and opened the hidden drawer. She took an ebony box out and opened it.
There was a pair of jade bracelets inside.
“It’s from Joseph’s grandmother. I want to give each to both you and Benjamin’s wife in the future, but I can just give you one now. You take them and sell one of them tomorrow. It’s worth than ten million years ago, so it will be worth more than fifteen million now.”
Hayden looked at the jade bracelets and took them carefully.
“It’s a gift from Joseph’s grandmother. Are you really willing to sell it?”
“It’s the only way to rescue Benjamin. Mom will understand me.” Rebekah definitely was unwilling to sell it, but she had to do that.
She tried to persuade herself that the bracelets were meaningless, “It has stayed there for so many years. I may forget it if I’ve not been reminded of it today.”
