Chapter 176
Chapter 176
As Wilson drove the car, he said angrily, "You told me you were fine last night, but I knew he'd bully you. I'll have a proper talk with him next time."
Even though Emma's experience with Trevor last night wasn't a happy one, she didn't want to worry Wilson, so she said that she was alright.
She never thought that someone would take a video of Trevor cornering her and trying to kiss her, nor did she think that it would be exposed.
However, when she heard that Wilson would be having a proper talk with Trevor, Emma hastily said, "It's okay, I'll just ignore him in the future."
Emma feared that the talk between Wilson and Trevor would escalate into a fierce battle. They had to partner up in the future, so it wouldn't be good to make things awkward between them.
Wilson seemed to have guessed what she was thinking. "If worse comes to worst, we'll just break the contract. We don't need his investment, and we can find other investors on our own. If that doesn't work, I'll establish a film company for you, and you can be the boss."
Emma was dumbfounded. "Please don't do that."
First of all, Wilson had already signed a contract with Trevor, so if he withdrew due to personal reasons, his reputation would be tarnished.
Second of all, Wilson's talk about establishing a film company for her was something she couldn't agree to.
She had a personality that didn't fit the requirements of a boss, and she was also very clear about her own standing. She just wanted to write scripts in peace and earnestly weave the story of her dreams. She hadn't thought of anything other than that.
"There's no need to be afraid. We have the funds to establish our own company, but I've never liked doing these things all these years. Also, your Aunt Sullivan isn't in the best of health, so I couldn't spend my efforts elsewhere. I never thought of establishing my own company, but it's different now. I can raise you with everything I have." The more Wilson spoke, the more he found this plan plausible.
However, Emma rejected his suggestion with all her might. "I really can't do it. I'm not capable of controlling the big picture."
Wilson chuckled, the exasperation and pity in his tone evident. "Oh, how simple-hearted you are. You have no desires at all."
In a bustling age like this, it was rare for Emma to hold on to such simple wishes. Nowadays, everyone wanted to establish their own companies regardless of how capable they were of running them.
Like Crystal, many people thought it grand to have their own company, but they actually weren't good at it.
Emma didn't put on airs or feel too proud simply because she became Wilson's goddaughter, and he was very comforted to know that. He knew that he carried out fair judgment when it came to people.
There was still some time before they arrived at the hospital, so Emma hastily contacted Wesley while she was in the car.
No matter what, she was Wesley's girlfriend in name. Now that such news about her had spread all over the place, the first person she owed an apology to was Wesley.
As such, she apologized earnestly, "I'm sorry, President Zurich. I'm not being a good girlfriend for allowing something like that to happen between me and Trevor. I must've caused you a lot of trouble."
Wesley quickly replied, "'It's not your fault, so you don't have to apologize."
"If I hadn't met him, this wouldn't have happened," replied Emma sullenly.
Yesterday, Trevor said that he wanted to discuss something with her, and she should've declined then.
Wesley's tone was understanding as he said, "I know everything. He followed you to Kingsford. Also, we're just lovers in name. Even if you have someone you love, you don't have to apologize to me."
"I don't have anyone I love. I just want to focus on work right now," she answered.
Right now, Emma had no feelings about men, love, or marriage. She didn't want to get involved in any of those.
She wasn't sure what was going on; perhaps she had a lot of luck in love this year. She just wanted to focus on work after coming home, but Adam and Wesley both had feelings for her. Even more so, Trevor, who used to ignore her, was now head over heels for her.
She felt that she had some praying to do. She would pray for a decrease in love-related matters. After all, she couldn't handle the overwhelming influx of love.
No, she didn't just want a decrease in love. She wanted all of it gone.
She hoped that all of the romance in her life would disappear, and more blessings related to work would come her way.
Wesley continued, "Emma, I trust that you're not a half-hearted person. Even if you're just my girlfriend in name, you wouldn't seduce other men on purpose."
Of course, Wesley had seen the news and recognized Emma in the video. However, he wasn't upset at all. For one, Trevor had been shamefully slapped by Emma, and everyone was laughing at him for being so chicken.
Additionally, he was certain no matter how Emma felt about Trevor, she would ignore the man for the time being.
Emma was so touched that she didn't know what to say. She never thought that Wesley would understand her so well.
After finishing up her chat with Wesley, Emma arrived at the hospital. With a bouquet of flowers in hand, she followed Wilson to Nina's ward.
It was Emma's first time meeting Wilson's wife, and she was quite nervous about it.
At the side, Wilson comforted her in a gentle voice, "She's a nice person. You don't have to be so nervous."
Even though Wilson was calming Emma down, he was also praising his wife at the same time.
Emma thought that Nina must be an amazing person, which was why Wilson would hold her in such high regard and stick by her throughout the years.
When she went into the ward and saw Nina, Emma relaxed in an instant.
Nina looked gentle and reserved, and perhaps due to her constant illness, she looked slender and weak. She had the aura of a sickly beauty.
Emma stepped forward and presented the fresh flowers in her hand, whispering, "Hello, Aunt Sullivan. I'm Emma Yates."
As Nina gazed at Emma, her eyes instantly turned red.
She sent a meaningful gaze at Wilson, who was standing at the side. She accepted Emma's flowers, then hugged the lady as she sobbed, "I'm so happy… Really, I am…"
"Emma, welcome to the Young Family." With that, Nina let go of Emma, tears immediately streaming down her face.
Emma never expected Nina to be so emotional, and her eyes turned red as well.
Wilson hastily came over and comforted Nina in a gentle tone, "You just recovered, and the doctor said
you shouldn't get too emotional. I know how you feel."
Wilson then explained to Emma, "Your Aunt Sullivan is crying tears of joy. She's simply too happy."
Nina wiped her tears dry as she looked at Emma again while saying sheepishly, "I'm sorry, I must have shocked you."
Emma hastily replied, "No, I'm very happy as well."
Nina took Emma's hand and said, "You're such a good child. We're very lucky to have you as our daughter."
At the side, Wilson smiled as he said, "All right, let's continue the conversation at home."
The three left the hospital in the car, heading back to the house Emma had visited with Trevor last time.
Once they were home, Nina said that it was the perfect weather to sit in the yard, so Wilson fetched her a thick blanket and made some chamomile tea. Emma chatted with Nina in the yard, whereas Wilson went into the kitchen and began preparing lunch for the three of them.
Emma was so touched that she didn't know what to say. She never thought that Wesley would understand her so well.
