The killer is revealed
‘ The job is done sir…just like you ordered.’ the caller spoke in a whisper.
‘ Just what I wanted. I will send the money to you in no time.’
The call immediately went dead making him laugh in mockery .
‘ The phase plan is accomplished.’
‘ You want me to believe she just escaped like that?’ he said, trying to control his anger as he turned to look at his son.
‘ I don’t know, father. Everything was going according to plan .’ he muttered.
‘ You know if anyone finds out about our plans, we would go to jail ?’
Axl looked away feeling dejected, how could Cathy have escaped. He was sure he used the right drugs and he added a few doses just so that she could stay asleep for a long time.
Whoever came to take Cathy knew about their plans because he could swear that Cathy didn’t move by herself.
Few days ago
‘ Father, what are these documents?’
‘ They are property papers which are our tickets into Chester’s Enterprise.’ His father had explained.
Even as his father had boasted of this plan being the best he doubted it.
It was their plan for Axl to be nicer and act like he had changed so that he could win back the trust of Cathy . After he was sure that Cathy believed he was no longer interested in the properties, he was to take the move of drugging her.
While she was in her sober state after taking the drug, he was to make her sign the papers unknowingly.
He had drugged her that night just like they planned but went off to get the papers from his office because he forgot it there.
When he got home that night, Cathy wasn’t at home even her Maid couldn’t account for her movements.
Present day
‘ So Father, what are we going to do?’ Axl asked, putting his face in his palm as he remained motionless for a while.
‘ Everything had already been taken care of, Axl’ he said quietly. ‘ I have taken care of it my own way.’
Axl removed his palms, staring at his father confused.
‘ You sound like you know all that happened that day.’
‘ There is nothing I don’t know about Axl.’ he smirked, making his son wonder if he had just been pretending to be angry with him.
‘ Tell me father, who is responsible for Cathy’s disappearance?’ he begged.
He didn’t answer straight up, instead he brought out files from an old cabinet before staring at him.
Meanwhile Axl was quite confused about the old cabinet and the way it contained dusty files. His father just moved into the house some weeks ago, so why was it dusty like it haven’t been cleaned for a decade?
‘ You remember your childhood girlfriend?’ he asked, removing him from his thoughts.
‘ Childhood? Er… You mean Nelly? Cathy’s cousin.’ he asked, gazing hard.
‘ Yes, Nelly Chester. The only brave lady in the Chester’s family.’ he praised in mockery.
‘ You’re sounding like she did something bad.’ He was really confused about his father’s change of outburst but he had to follow him slowly.
If there was anything Mr. Anderson hated, it was trying to force him to say things. He talked at his own pace.
‘ We all forgot about her existence, Your wife met with her yesterday.’ he spilled out.
Axl took it cool, he wasn’t expecting it though but wasn’t shocked.
‘ How did it happen father?’
He breathed as he explained how Cathy went to the newspaper company, he wouldn’t have known if not for the manager of the company who called him to inform him.
As soon as Cathy left, the manager called to inform she was there and she wanted the information of her cousin.
‘ That means someone must have informed her about her cousin’s existence. She still wants to find out the truth about her parents death?’
‘ I guess so, that’s the reason I sent someone to kill Nelly’s mum in the hospital?’
‘ You did what!’
He was shocked but he knew his father was capable of taking the life of anyone that gets in his way, so why was he shocked.
‘ Was it necessary father?’ he asked in a choked voice.
‘ I know Nelly very well, she’s innocent but very smart. I could swear she was going to take Cathy to the hospital.’ he explained.
It was then he remembered what happened the previous day, he was quite confused when Cathy mentioned Nelly’s name but everything was cleared up by his father’s explanation.
He thought of how Nelly would look like after those few years, would she be angry with him?
Mad was the right word, he dumped her a few days before their wedding. She could even kill him for doing so but one thing was left confusing.
Why was she helping Cathy? Was she planning on taking her revenge for what he did to her?
Left with no answers, He reminisce on the good moments he had with her.
They got to know each other through their parents, it was her uncle’s idea for them to get married and there was no objection at that time.
Nelly was calm and gentle, she wasn’t the talkative or the controlling freak like her cousin but she was quite dangerous to mess with. Maybe that was why she was the only one not affected by his dad’s plot.
He could remember the night he called her to tell her he didn’t want her. He remembered everything that happened that night like a video coverage.
‘ You can’t just call off our wedding Axl, tell me why you did this?’ she had begged but the he had no reason for while he was leaving her.
‘ Your father made you do this right? Why do you always allow your father to make decisions for you? ‘
He made no reply to that , she wasn’t wrong at all. It was his father’s decision not to get married to her but he never told her he was getting married to her cousin.
As he sat down watching his father dust the files, he wondered if all that Nelly said were all through.
Had he ever made a decision alone? Of course he had, he remembered vividly telling his dad about wanting to get divorced from Cathy but slowly that smile faded when he discovered his dad had also influence his decision about divorcing her.
He thought of Nelly and his heart ached, he just wanted to see her. Maybe to apologize for everything that happened even if he knew it was just a waste of time.
‘ Father?’ He called . ‘Any Idea where Nelly stays?’
‘ Don’t you remember? She lived all her life in the Chester’s mansion.’ he answered not bothering to ask why he wanted her address.
‘ The old Chester’s mansion ‘ was that place still existing? He thought.
He could remember how he used to go there to have lunch and dinner with Nelly’s mother, he maintained a strong bond with her and he felt pricked in his heart when he remembered she was dead.
How could his father take the life of a woman who had cared for him like a son? He felt he had done a bad thing.
Going to see her will be good, he thought , and it will also mean seeing Nelly too.
‘ Father, Cathy might wake up at any time. What if she gets us arrested?’ he asked blinking.
‘ Are you scared of going to jail? ‘ he returned with mockery.
‘ For now am not quite sure but we have to wait till the end of the day.’ he continued.
*************
‘ Am still thinking if I should tell Cathy about her missing sister…for Rhea’s sake ‘ the once cold hearted Dementrio said.
‘ That’s the only option, you won’t want her to find out this herself ‘ a voice replied.
It was deep and hoarse. It belonged to the masked guy. He is Dementrio’s most trusted bodyguard.
‘ Where are they now?’
‘ On a quest to find the orphanage where she grew up.’
‘ Orphanage?’ he bursted out in mockery. ‘ The orphanage was just an imagination.’
‘ She will find that out herself, I want you to meet someone.’ the mask man said, immediately he got out of the car without letting Demetrio protest.
The door opened allowing Dementrio to come out.
‘ Where are we going?’ he asked softly.
‘ Just that coffee shop , sir.’ he answered.
Dementrio didn’t protest but followed slowly.
Inside , he saw a man sipping slowly. Only his bullet eyes were enough to bring recognition.
He increased his pace and got close.
‘ I never thought I would see you again.’ he said, bringing his hand for a handshake.
The man was shocked but accepted it.
‘ You recognized me?’ he asked as he pulled out the other chair for him.
‘ I can never forget my Father’s right hand man.’ he rolled in laughter.
He was right, that was the name his father called him when he was alive. He was his father’s most trusted assassin.
‘ You make me remember your late father.’ he said with a dirty smirk.
He quickly signaled the waiter to bring a cup of coffee while the masked man sat at the next available chair.
A lot of the customers were surprised why he wore a mask but they had no right to protest or send him out .
The law said everyone was free to do whatever they want as long as it was legal and won’t hurt anyone.
