One Day, I Woke Up A Werewolf

Chapter 42

Chapter 42

Hailey's POV

We were now gathered in an open field, Azuri tied to a tree with chains of silver. She was in pain,

stripped bare of any clothes. Her eyes were closed but her tears made their way out somehow, face

wet from I'm sure are tears of a broken heart.

In all of my anger, I felt pity for her. She did not choose to love this mate of mine. Her heart decided for

her and yes, they should not have fooled around with each other and created a bond that would

eventually only affect Azuri, while Jaxon gets away unscathed by love.

I shift back to my human body, the bones snapping back always seem to shock me every damn time...

The one thing I doubt I will ever get used to...

With that said, I was now one with my wolf.

Her feelings were mine and my feelings were hers... she agreed with me on feeling bad for the girl

chained up in front of us.

This was the result of a boy who could not keep it in his pants long enough to wait for his mate. He

rushed life and one thing I could not do is punish Azuri alone for this. Jaxon deserves just as much of

my wrath as Azuri.

Jaxon needs to pay for his actions, maybe some time alone, without Azuri, without me. Maybe then will

he grow into the man his pack needs, the man I will need to father our children.

"Jaxon, Azuri will be transferred to my pack. If she is as good of a warrior as you all say then I will use

her as my personal guard. She will in the future be the one to guard and protect any children we have.

So, she will not die today." I say and I hear Jaxon let out a breath that he was holding, waiting for his

friend's death.

"This is a matter that should be discussed by all alphas present." Jaxon's father says but Jaxon places

his hand on his dad's shoulder to quiet him.

"Don't make her change her mind. Zuri will live, that is all that matters." Jaxon says and my heart aches

at that nickname. He has not given me one yet, not one pet name.

Jaxon looks at me, he takes one step forward but quickly steps back.

"I know, I have not acted accordingly and for that, I apologize." He says to me, making Cayden chuckle.

"An apology will not cut it this time. You have failed to save yourself for me and I forgave you for that.

You continue to protect your friend even at the expense of my feelings, it's like I have to compete for

your affection which makes me question this mate bond. How real is it for you? How real is it for any

Mera in any pack or is it an excuse to take on a human mate because the Shera's cannot reproduce? I

question if you are being genuine... if you mean what you say because you go on to do the opposite.

Maybe she is the love of your life, who knows?" I say and he shakes his head no, enthusiastically.

"I only have feelings for you, Hailey," Jaxon says to me and we all hear Azuri let out a whimper.

"Do you really? Or is it something you tell yourself every day so you can keep yourself from going after

Azuri the way your body wants to?" I ask and the crowd starts to whisper among themselves.

"I am a virgin and you are not. How is it fair that I come to you in all my purity and you get to walk

around with a smug smile on your face, telling the world you found a mate?" I ask.

"Oh stop with the dramatics, he was a curious boy but has seen the error of his ways. Can we move on

from this already?" Jaxon's dad says to me and I smile.

"Oh, we are moving on. Your son will go home a single man. I choose to take some time away from

him, however long it takes me and he will not bother me. This is the time I need to figure my life out

after finding out I am a werewolf and not only that but one that will lead a pack one day. I also need to

allow the idea of being forced to mate with a man that was chosen for me by some unknown and

unseen force to grow on me, changing religions and a different god to pray to. I have big tasks to finish

and since your son has some growing up to do, I will put some distance between us until I feel like he is

good enough for me." I say.

"Hailey..." Jaxon says to me.

"I will not be the girl that just forgives a man any time he says he is sorry. Jaxon, you have seen

firsthand how my life was. My father was one mean-spirited man and there is no excuse for what he put

me through... because of that, I will never let a man treat me however he likes. Not from you or anyone

else. I don't think I was blessed with such a task to just blindly follow when I am the one that holds all

the power. I am to bring life into this world, I am the one that will carry out the prophecy, you are

nothing but the seed that needs to be planted. I am the soil, the water, and the sun... I deserve some

respect and because your little head cannot grasp the change of power, I will leave you here. Do as

you wish, fuck Azuri or the list of girls at your school... or help yourself by doing some self-

introspection... However you choose to spend your time will determine the outcome of our future. If you

stray, just once, I promise I will not be a forgiving woman. You will find out just how quickly I can move

on." I say and I nod my head at Cayden, who removes the chains from Azuri.

"Say goodbye to your ex, may this be the last time you will ever lay eyes on her or exchange words

with her. Make it count but also remember that my pack is watching and listening." I say and as I was

just about to walk away...

"Why not end it now?" Somebody from the crowd shouts.

"Choose someone from our pack. At least we will know you will always be respected." Another follows.

"I say take Cayden. He will always put you first through everything and we know because of his

position in the pack, he will put his life for yours and after some time, he will lay down his own life for

his children, just as he does every other day for his pack members." My father says and the pack

agrees with him.

I slowly turn to look at Cayden and he is looking back at me...
