Chapter 19: The Raid of the Whispers. Sebastian's POV

Chapter 19: The Raid of the Whispers.

A mature Melissa's allure was irresistible.

I must confront his own heart. I had to admit, for me,

From what I'd heard and from what I knew firsthand, her nature was deeply genuine.. Because of this, I felt a stronger need to respect her, which was why I hadn't physically intimated with her.

What I hadn't expected was for her to drown her pain for me in a foolish attempt at drinking away her troubles.

The two of us could not afford to hurt each other again, so I was determined to resolve this.

Yet, I had never forgotten my duties-I had to care for my pack, to keep them safe from any enemies.

After receiving Elliott's letter, I surmised that those who attacked us had no affiliation with the Meadow Pack.

Neither Elliott nor Melissa would ever do such a thing. I instructed my men to investigate our current threats further, and during this period, I focused on staying close to Melissa.

Whether it was riding horses or training, every time I chatted with her, I gained more new ideas and insights.

And these moments helped deepen our bond, bringing us closer together.

That evening, as I held her in the garden, I felt an unexpected calm settle within me.

garden,

When I saw the jealousy in her eyes over Lydia, I realized the depth of her feelings for me.

Watching her, tipsy and ready to jump out a window, I had to admit I felt a jolt of panic.

Her two best friends, Phoebe and Kala, seemed ready to devour me alive, warning me not to hurt her again.

Only then did I realize-perhaps fate had been at work all along, quietly bringing us together.

Melissa, this beautiful woman/unaware of her allure, constantly tempted me.

Resisting her took an immense amount of willpower.

In truth, we faced a significant issue. My Beta-a ticking time bomb lurking close to Melissa's best friend.

Recently, his relationship with Kala had turned tense. To ensure he continued to work.

loyally for me, I discussed the matter seriously with Melissa, and she promised to speak to Kala to find out what had happened.

Now, as I looked at Martell, I got straight to the point..

"What's going on? You've been making too many mistakes lately."

Behind Martell's smile lay a deep resignation-a helplessness toward the present and uncertainty about the future. Even I couldn't ignore it..

"It's really no big deal," he admitted, "but Kala found out about one of my other lovers."

Hearing his confession, I couldn't help but pause, my breath catching for a moment.

"Didn't I tell you to stop fooling around with women? You promised you'd dismiss them."

Six months ago, I'd ordered him to put an end to this behavior. Yet here he was, still entangled with those women.

"I was ready to let go, but Lindsay refused to leave me," he added, attempting to explain despite my obvious disappointment. "Lindsay? That woman from the cursed lands, the rotting forest?"

In my memory, she caused more trouble than I had encountered in my entire life. combined.

People around Martell had perished one by one because of her, yet we'd never been able to prove it was her doing.

I'd even banished her from the northern territory, but somehow, she had managed to come back on her own.

"This time, she approached Kala herself... told her that we'd planned to get close to Luna to gather intel on her region and her former husband. With that knowledge, we'd be in a stronger position to take over her entire pack." Every word from my Beta felt like a silver needle piercing through me.

My head throbbed as if I had been struck by a wave of explosive pain.

I deeply regretted allowing Melissa to communicate about this matter.

Even though I believed in her judgment, it was best for her to remain uninvolved in anything that could jeopardize our relationship.

"Why did you let them meet? Isn't Lindsay living on the outskirts of the North?" I questioned Martell.

He fell silent, and I suspected that Kala had witnessed something she shouldn't have.

But I could not allow such individuals or circumstances to disrupt the peace in the North. 32.5%

"Alpha, rest assured, I won't let this matter escalate, he assured me, allowing me to breathe.

a little easier.

I had grown accustomed to the comfort of sharing a bed with Melissa.

Just having her quietly lying beside me brought a sense of ease.

By the time I finished washing up and climbed into bed, she had curled up against me like a soft, little wolf cub.

In that moment, I felt overwhelming happiness.

"Alpha! Our wasteland has come under attack from the east!"

My commander suddenly linked with my mind, urgently reporting the situation.

I bolted upright in bed, ready to spring into action.

"Was it a surprise attack? There are very few areas of wasteland in the North. If they were hit there, we need to dispatch at least two squads from the castle."

Her eyes reflected deep concern, as if fearing the approaching storm.

"Stay safe here. I'll be back," I reassured her, noticing her expression was tinged with frustration.

Perhaps due to her role as a Luna, she was exceptionally perceptive.

She seemed to grasp the things I hadn't even said.

The attackers were clad in black uniforms and were numerous in number.

They had dismantled the defenses along the border and sent their pack's warriors here.

"Is it the Alliance?"

I sensed the complex power of those troops; undoubtedly, soldiers from the east and south had joined forces.

Upon seeing me, their hatred burned like an uncontrollable fire, impossible to extinguish.

Such a beautiful night had been utterly ruined by these intruders!

Basily, clad in soft pajamas, maintained a nonchalant demeanor.

"Are they coming to plunder the wasteland too? When will they ever leave us alone?"

I swiftly grabbed the wolf lunging at me and, with a slight exertion of force, tore it in half.

In every battle, we emerged victorious without question. Many of the attackers, upon witnessing the carnage ahead, dared not to advance further.

To my surprise, they seemed to have adopted a new tactic. When Martell was brought back, his entire body was shrouded in strange black mist, with a cursed mark now on his abdomen.

"It seems our people have fallen victim to the 'Whispers. Beta took on a lot of the burden, which is why he ended up like this," a soldier explained just as the witch's voice echoed in

our ears.

My vision suddenly blurred; I hadn't expected that in this day and age, such attacks still existed.

Just as I felt utterly drained, a fierce black wolf charged at me.

Basily, caught off guard, became entangled with two tundra wolves.

Just as I steeled myself to fight back, a maned wolf appeared before me, sinking its teeth into the neck of the adversary and tearing through its muscles.

Alongside it were an Eurasian wolf and a plains wolf.

The-Eurasian wolf was savage and ruthless, guarding Martell closely, while the plains wolf merely stood there, dazed. Until the 'Whispers' echoed again, it joined in the howling.

I wasn't sure if it was just my imagination, but I felt significantly better in that instant. The markings of the Whispers on Martell began to fade gradually.

The number of attackers dwindled, and Melissa transformed back into her human form.

"I told you, I once was Luna. It's just that I'm not particularly skilled in combat," she said with a smile, leaning against me as if waiting for my command on how to deal with these prisoners.

In that moment, I realized why Elliott was reluctant to let her go; there were other men interested in Melissa, and their interest was not without reason!

Because of this, I wouldn't easily let go of such a captivating woman either.
