Lenora quickly tried to smooth things over, picking up some food with the serving fork for Gerald. "Grandpa, try these baked eggplants. I made it myself. You used to love it."

Allison chimed in. "Look, Nora even remembers what you like. I'm even getting a bit jealous."

"Nora is indeed a filial one." Gerald picked up his fork, nodding with a cheerful smile. "Unlike some heartless ones, who only seem to upset me. It's as if they won't stop until they've angered me to death." Zachary was speechless,

"Grandpa, please don't say that. I'm sure you'll live a long and healthy life," said Lenora.

Lenora's parents divorced when she was very young, and her custody was given to her father. To be precise, it was her mother who didn't want her. In all the years that followed, her mother never once came to see her. Her father was busy with work, so initially, she lived in the countryside with her grandparents. However, a few years later, after the passing of her grandparents one after the other, her father brought her to live with him. The year she turned sixteen, her father also passed away, leaving her utterly alone.

That was, until her grandparents took her in, providing her warmth and giving her another place to call home.

She didn't want to endure the pain of losing loved ones again.

As such, no one wished for her grandfather's good health and long life more than she did.

Throughout the meal, aside from Zachary, the other three were exceptionally harmonious.

Lenora was thinking of ways to entertain Gerald and Allison. They were chatting and smiling, looking like a real family.

The housekeeper nearby also said, "Ever since Ms. Wilkin arrived, Old Mr. Fuller's spirits have been much higher than before."

After dinner, Lenora played chess with Gerald for a while.

Lenora's chess skills, thanks to Gerald's guidance, improved at a rapid pace. Even Gerald himself dared not take it lightly and played chess with her seriously.

Gerald wanted to take back his move, causing Lenora to protest loudly. "Grandpa, no fair!

You're cheating!"

However, upon closer inspection, her eyes were full of amusement, and she was clearly indulging Gerald.

"No, I'm not. I merely haven't placed my piece yet." Gerald confidently picked up the white piece from the chessboard and placed it in a new spot.

"You're sure you want to place the piece here, Grandpa?" questioned Lenora.

Gerald glanced at Lenora, hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Yes."

Lenora immediately placed her black piece on the board. "Hahaha! Grandpa, you've lost!"

Gerald's eyes widened in surprise as he realized he had fallen for Lenora's cunning trick. He immediately took back the white piece he had just placed and even tossed Lenora's black piece back into the box. "No, no, this doesn't count. I made a mistake, I made a mistake."

On the side. Zachary watched the energetic Lenora, then glanced at the playful Gerald, grinning faintly.

In front of his friends, Gerald always maintained a stern demeanor. Only in front of Lenora would he behave like a child, willful and stubborn.

Suddenly, Lenora pointed at Zachary and said, "Grandpa, he's laughing at you."

Gerald glanced over, and the smile on Zachary's face froze instantly.

"You cheeky rascal. How dare you laugh at me. Hurry up and pour some water for me and Nora. All you know is to stand there like a fool." Zachary was speechless.

Zachary went to pour water for them, and behind him echoed a bold and pleasant laughter.

Zachary's face darkened.
