Chapter 9
Right after Daxton gave Aubrey his friend’s business card, the traffic police arrived.
Since Aubrey had run into Daxton while he was waiting at a stop light, naturally, Aubrey was the one in the wrong.
Aubrey told Daxton, “This car isn’t registered under my name because my mother-in-law is the one who loaned it to me. If we were to take the insurance route, it would have to go through the Cohens, and it would be quite a hassle for them. I’ll just pay for your repair fees myself.
“Mr. Miller, just let me know how much you spent on repairing the car. I’ll reimburse everything afterward.”
Randell was divorcing her, but his terms had been too infuriating and Aubrey refused to be the scapegoat while he got off scot-free. But now, she had accidentally crashed into Daxton’s car, and she doubted that Randell would want to help her with the car insurance.
Aubrey had no intention of asking Randell for help anyway. So, she would just foot the repair bill herself.
Daxton didn’t try to make things hard for her. He said, “I don’t mind as long as you compensate me for the repair bill.”
“Mr. Miller, um, in that case, could you please leave me your contact number? After you’ve repaired your car, you can just tell me how much you spent, and I’ll transfer the money to you.”
“Okay.”
Daxton and Aubrey then exchanged contact numbers.
The traffic police was soon done. Although both cars had been slightly damaged, they could still be driven in a safe condition. So, Daxton and Aubrey each got back into their respective cars and left the scene afterward.
…
Ten minutes later, Daxton arrived at Miller Group. He stopped his car at the 68-story-tall building entrance, and two dark-clothed bodyguards appeared before Daxton had even gotten out of the car.
“Mr. Daxton.”
The dark-clothed men were Daxton’s personal bodyguards. However, he didn’t like his bodyguards following him around, so he often left them behind at the company.
Daxton got down from his car and threw his car keys to one of the bodyguards. He said, “Go and get the car repaired. Someone ran into me on the way here.”
“Are you alright, Mr. Daxton?” the bodyguards asked in concern.
“I’m fine,” Daxton replied as he walked into the building.
His brand-new car had just been clipped in the butt. No big deal.
“Stop following me,” he added.
The bodyguards stopped in their tracks and watched as Daxton sauntered into the building.
“Mr. Miller, the chairman specifically asked you to see him at his office as soon as you came in today,” the receptionist told Daxton politely.
Daxton wasn’t currently holding any position in the company. However, Miller Group had long been under his control. Outsiders just didn’t know it. They all thought that the chairman, Francis Miller, was appointing his second son, Clayton Miller, to be the successor instead.
“What’s the matter with that old man? Why can’t he just leave me be?” Daxton muttered. He was cursing his own father under his breath.
The receptionist didn’t dare to reply to him at all.
Daxton didn’t wait for the receptionist to answer anyway. He just went over to the elevator and took it to the topmost floor of the building.
When the elevator doors opened, Francis’ secretary, Miranda Smith, was already waiting for him.
“The chairman is waiting for you in his office, Mr. Miller.”
Daxton strode toward the chairman’s office. He didn’t even bother knocking on the door before walking in.
Miranda only followed him to the door. She didn’t dare to enter the room with him. Daxton looked like he was someone other people could get along well with, but that couldn’t have been farther from the truth.
“What’s up, Dad? What do you want me to do this time? Do you know I got into an accident because I was rushing over to see you?”
As soon as he heard this, Francis stopped everything he was doing and immediately lifted his head to look at Daxton walking in. He asked anxiously, “Are you alright?”
“Don’t worry. I’m not the ghost of your dead son just yet.”
Daxton took a seat before Francis’ desk. Then, he pushed the chair all the way back and raised his legs, resting his feet on top of the work desk.
Francis grabbed a folder and swatted it at Daxton’s shoes while chiding, “Sit up properly, for goodness’ sake. What do you think you’re doing?”
Daxton was a brat, and Francis had a hard time disciplining him. Yet, Daxton was a business and entrepreneur genius, so it only made sense that Miller Group eventually went to him.
After Daxton got his feet swept off the desk, he sat up properly and pulled his chair a little closer. He raised his arm and took the folder from Francis, opened it up, and started reading. However, he very quickly threw the folder back at Francis.
“I do not agree with this proposal. Tell whoever did this to redo it.”
Francis was speechless.
He held on to his dignity as Daxton’s father and pulled out an envelope from his drawer. Then, he threw the envelope down before Daxton.
“Look at what you’ve done!”
