Chapter 572
Chapter 572
Matthew had noticed Lucy long before, but when he saw the man sitting across from her, his expression turned cold.
Linus was well-spoken, and he was especially gentlemanly when speaking with Lucy.
However, Lucy did not notice Matthew's expression at all. As soon as she saw him, she happily waved at him.
"Matt, I was going to wait for you by the road, but since you told me to wait for you in the café and I just so happened to have a lot of stuff with me, I came here for convenience."
Lucy pointed at the sketchpad and the scattered items on the table. She had indeed brought quite a lot of things with her.
Matthew softened his tone a bit when speaking to Lucy, "Why didn't you ask the butler to send a car for you? How did you manage to bring all this stuff to the beach?"
Lucy looked at him playfully. "I told the butler before coming here. I've been overworking myself these days and needed to relax, so I brought my sketchpad here."
Matthew caressed her face, ignoring Linus, who was watching them from across the table. "Have you eaten anything today?"
Lucy shook her head, and immediately, Matthew was not pleased.
Lucy understood Matthew's character, so she quickly pleaded with him though her face still wore a smile. "I... I didn't have any time to eat." Matthew pulled Lucy into an embrace, and only then did Lucy notice how inappropriately intimate they were being in front of the person sitting opposite them. Lucy struggled, but Matthew refused to let go.
Unaware of Matthew's inner turmoil, Lucy did not realize that he wanted to declare to the man across from them that she belonged to him. Although it was their first time meeting and they had not spoken to each other before, Matthew was highly alert toward this man, sensing that he had ill intentions toward
Lucy.
"Matt..." Lucy discreetly pushed him away. Just as Matthew was about to get angry, she smiled and explained to him, "This is Linus Gusman. He rescued me twice today, and I was just thanking him.”
Matthew immediately tensed up. "What happened just now?"
Lucy said hesitantly, "Well... Just now... a man was trying to hit on me, and he was being disrespectful, so Linus helped me out of the situation.”
Matthew finally understood that the
man was named Linus, and he realized that he had misunderstood the situation. He had thought Linus was trying to approach Lucy, and he just so happened to show up in time. After Lucy's explanation, he realized that he was mistaken.
Matthew said, "Thank you for helping my wife get out of that situation."
After Lucy introduced Linus, he could finally chime in, “No problem. It was the right thing for me to do. Seeing a man disrespect a lady like that, I had to intervene.... But are you so busy with your work that you can't even find time to accompany your wife for an outing?"
The first part of Linus' response somewhat changed Matthew's view of him, but he was not happy with the latter part.
Yet, Linus was right. He left Matthew with no rebuttal, only guilt toward Lucy.
