Chapter 1041
Chapter 1041
Chapter 1041 One Of His Family Members
“Alright, Daddy. It's none of your business now,” Dabao said coldly before hanging up the phone, leaving Nan Chen bewildered on the other end of the line.
Suppressing the smugness on her face, Ning Ran asked, “Have you finished your interrogation, you two grown-ups?”
“We're almost done, and the conclusion we've reached is that you and Daddy like each other,” Dabao replied.
Ning Ran remained silent.
While it wasn't entirely inaccurate, it sounded strange to hear it put that way.
Poker Face and I like each other but don't say it out loud. Isn't that something teenagers do? Even though we already have two children together, this talk of liking each other still sounds childish.
“According to some books, you should always be with the person you like. So it's great that you and Daddy are together now,” Dabao continued in a somewhat annoying manner.
“Do you have any other instructions? If not, I'll leave first.” Ning Ran stood up.
“Wait!” Dabao and Erbao exclaimed in unison.
They hadn't finished with their questions!
Ning Ran had no choice but to sit back down. “What else do you want to know?”
“Why do you refuse to marry Daddy?” they asked.
Just as Ning Ran had guessed, this was their main question.
After all their previous questions, this was the one thing they had been yearning to ask the most.
Ning Ran opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say anything, Dabao interjected, “Are you going to tell us that the adult world is complicated and we won't understand? Or are you going to say that we won't comprehend fully even if you tell us about it?”
Ning Ran's mouth hung even wider in surprise.
What am I supposed to do now that you've said everything I wanted to say?
You're just a kid. Is this really a good idea for you to interrogate your mother?
“All right, go on.” Ning Ran sighed helplessly.
“Mommy, you are not angry, are you? If you get angry at us, Daddy will surely laugh at you when he finds out!” Dabao continued.
Ning Ran was speechless.
Is this really the way a child speaks?
You are so capable, yet you still consider yourself a child?
“I'm not angry,” Ning Ran finally said. She didn't have to look in a mirror to know that she looked dejected right then.
“Mommy, I know you won't get angry because you love us very, very much!” Erbao chipped in adorably.
Ning Ran felt her anger subside upon seeing Erbao's heart-melting cuteness.
“Alright, I know what you're trying to convey. Stop asking. I'll tell you everything.” Ning Ran sighed helplessly.
Ning Ran watched as Dabao and Erbao exchanged glances again, clearly celebrating their victory.
How can they team up to bully their own mother?
“I know that your great-grandpa and great-grandma suddenly brought up the idea of me marrying Daddy, and I didn't agree to it immediately. There are indeed complex reasons behind my decision, and it's not that you kids won't understand. It's just that some things require you to reach a certain age to fully comprehend the situation,” Ning Ran said.
After pausing a while, she continued, “Understanding and comprehending are two different things, and there is nothing to be ashamed of if you don't understand this. Sometimes, I don't understand your behavior either because I'm getting older and can't truly grasp your perspective. You see, it's not a matter of who is superior between children and adults. It's about the difference in age. Things that concern children may not necessarily be understood by adults, and vice versa. Similarly, adult matters may not always be comprehensible to children either. Isn't that right?”
Ning Ran addressed them respectfully as if she were talking to two adults.
Although Erbao didn't fully grasp everything, she kept nodding because Ning Ran's words sounded pleasant instead of pressuring.
“I'm not saying that I don't want to marry Daddy. It's just that there are still some unresolved issues between us for now. As for when the problems will be resolved, it's not something that we can determine on our own either. The adult world is indeed much more complicated than yours. Sometimes even I can't fully comprehend what's going on. But what I can guarantee is that Daddy and I will try our best to make things work, and we will always love you. Are you both satisfied with my answer?”
Dabao and Erbao exchanged glances.
Erbao seemed rather confused because the depth of this conversation had surpassed her understanding.
Dabao, on the other hand, was not as confused. He could grasp the main points of what Ning Ran wanted to express.
“Alright, we got it,” Dabao finally said.
Ning Ran heaved a sigh of relief. Although she was mentally exhausted, the “inquest” was finally over.
“I have a request, but I don't know if I should say it or not,” Ning Ran began.
“Please tell us, Mommy,” they replied simultaneously.
“How about you two interrogate Daddy about this when he comes back?” Ning Ran suggested.
“We aren't interrogating you! We are just showing our concerns,” Dabao corrected.
“Then, will you also show him your concerns too?” Ning Ran asked.
“Sure!” Dabao and Erbao nodded together.
Ning Ran smirked. Wait till you get a taste of being questioned by children, Poker Face!
Meanwhile, having finished all her work at Nanshi Corporation, Lu Jingyuan stood up and stretched her numb neck, ready to leave work.
As she came out of the office, Nan Xing appeared before her with a bouquet of flowers.
It was a bouquet of orchids instead of roses.
“For you,” Nan Xing said as he handed the flowers over.
Lu Jingyuan didn't take them. “What are you up to now?”
“They're not for you. They're for my grandpa,” Nan Xing explained.
Lu Jingyuan was even more puzzled. “If they are for your grandpa, why are you giving them to me?”
“These flowers are not for you, but they are for you to take and then give to my grandpa,” Nan Xing clarified.
It sounded like a tongue-twister, but Lu Jingyuan was smart enough to understand what Nan Xing meant.
“You want me to bring these flowers to your grandpa? Why though?” she asked.
“My grandpa is in the hospital. You should come with me to visit him,” Nan Xing said.
“Your grandpa is sick? Is it serious?”
“The surgery was successful. He will be discharged in a couple of days.”
After Lu Jingyuan pondered for a moment, she asked, “If news of your grandpa's illness gets out, it will cause fluctuations in the stock price, won't it? Why are you telling me then?”
“Because you are one of us, and apart from family, no one in the company knows about my grandpa's illness,” Nan Xing said.
Lu Jingyuan finally understood what Nan Xing was up to.
He wanted to take her to his grandfather to show how important she was to him.
In other words, it was like telling his grandfather that she was someone special to him.
“If this news was made public, I should indeed visit as one of the executives of Nanshi Corporation. But since it hasn't been announced, I think it's not appropriate for me to go,” Lu Jingyuan declined.
Nan Xing looked disappointed.
Lu Jingyuan wasn't declining because she was heartless. Rather, she was genuinely in a difficult position.
If the Nan family hadn't made the news of Nan Zhengde's illness public, it was a confidential matter.
It made sense for the Nan family members to visit him, but as an outsider, it wasn't appropriate for her to go at this time.
If she couldn't go as an executive of Nanshi Corporation, it meant that she could only go in another identity.
But what identity should I go as? Nan Xing's girlfriend?
She hadn't even agreed to date him officially, not to mention that Nan Xing hadn't figured out what exactly their relationship was. How could she go as his girlfriend?
Moreover, what if his grandfather didn't want to see me?
“You, me, my brother, and my sister-in-law are all friends. Now that my grandfather is sick, you don't even want to visit him?” Nan Xing asked coldly.
“Actually, I should go and visit him, but your family hasn't made this matter public. What identity can I go as? Don't you understand that this is rather inappropriate?” Lu Jingyuan retorted.
“We can go together!” Nan Xing raised his voice too. “I already said you're one of us!”
“But I don't consider myself part of your family!”
After saying that, Lu Jingyuan thought that her words sounded a bit harsh.
However, she was speaking the truth. She really hadn't considered herself part of his family.
They hadn't even confirmed their relationship. How could she be considered as one of his family?
