My Soul Got Stuck In Another Person’s Body!!

Chapter 14

Today began with a crappy note as usual. In fact, it’s been crappy since I lost the stone. I found myself thinking about it all day long. The boys I hired were always at my beck and call so I harassed them all the time because of the stone.

I had become obsessive these past days. Who wouldn’t be? If you were so close to achieving something great, something that gave you enthusiasm and suddenly you lost your zeal to achieve, won’t you obsess about getting it back?

I didn’t know how everything went wrong. Days went by and I started to realise that I had a very violent side to me.

I even possessed arms now. I had a gun!

Harley Dogman had a gun! If anyone had told me beforehand that it would come to this, I would have believed because I still wanted to be seen.

I wanted to be acknowledged.

I wanted to wipe the smirks off the faces of the people who’d looked down on me, especially my parents.

And I thought of using my inventions to achieve that. But now that I had lost the mysterious, magical, soul stone… I couldn’t invent no more.

No! I refused to give up on finding it. I was going to comb everywhere for it. Even if it meant killing—

“Boss” one of my boy’s called. I was so lost in thought I didn’t realize I was in the same room with two boys I’d hired.

“What is it?” I growled

“I found information on the stone” he said

I jolted upright on the sofa where I sat.

“What did you say?” I asked. I wanted to confirm because I didn’t expect it.

“I found information on the stone”

“Spit it out”

“Boss, we lost the stone after we got involved in an accident when we returned to you. I just got an information from someone that there was also another accident that took place on that spot”

“So what are you trying to say?” I asked

“I’m saying that the victims of the second accident could have taken the stone”

I didn’t reply. My brain was still processing the information.

“Who are the victims?” I asked

“I’m yet to find out, boss”

At that moment, I didn’t know what possessed me. I suddenly felt a rush of different emotions.

Hope? Doubt? Rage and frustration?

I grabbed the loaded gun that lay beside me and pointed it at him.

“Are you sure about this information? I’ll kill you if I find out that you’re fucking with me”

I watched as he trembled in fear and it gave me a little satisfaction.

“Yes, boss. I’m sure of it”

“Find out more about those victims and if they have anything to do with my stone. I’ve put my faith in you. I won’t spare you if you fail me” I said to him.

“Yes boss!”

“You can go now”

I slumped back on the sofa. I felt a bit less tense now. Maybe I could find the stone after all.

After a while, I heard a sound. It came from my gate. Someone just got in. Who was that? I wasn’t expecting anyone now.

I wasn’t really feeling alarmed about it because my door had a code attached to it. No one could get into my house from outside without pressing the code.

I stayed put on the sofa, expecting to hear a knock on the door but I didn’t.

Instead, I heard a sound from my door. The sound I usually heard when the door was being unlocked.

Wait. Who was that? No one knew the code to my house except my….

The door opened and my parents got in.

I released a relief sigh when I saw them. At least I wasn’t going to be a victim of burglary.

But what were they doing here? Had they come to lecture me again?

“We came to see you because we knew you wouldn’t come to see us” my dad said as he made his way to the sofa

At least they knew I wasn’t going to visit.

“How’s Dinah?” I asked. Dinah was my younger and only sister whom I hadn’t seen for ages. She lived with my parents.

“She’s doing fine, better than you are ” my mom snorted her reply

“What’s all these?” my dad asked, pointing to the table in front of us. It contained empty bottles of liquor and empty packs of snacks. That was how I  lived now. An empty, desolate life without my stone.

“Your house is in a mess” he complained

“And you’ve gone MIA for a while” said my mom

I didn’t have time for this. Their presence, complaints, lectures, I decided not to take it.

“I want you guys to leave now. I’m angry enough as it is” I said to them, curtly

“We just came and you want us to leave?” My dad barked

“What’s come over you, Harley. Your sister is doing well in a reasonable job and you’re here, wasting your youth at home, barely sober and inventing crap?”

The criticisms were playing over and over in my head again.

“Are you human or just a freak…?”

“You lack a social life…”

“I didn’t give birth to a child with a personality disorder. Are you going to prove me wrong…?”

“This is bullshit — your inventions are bullshit. Who does that nowadays? Get a life, Harley…”

“Will you estrange your self from us because we told you the harsh reality of life…?”

“Why can’t you be like Dinah… she has a —”

All my life, my parents badgered me with these.

Not anymore. I wasn’t going to let them.

Grabbing the loaded gun next to me I stood up and pointed it at them.

My mom gasped.

“What are you doing, Harley? Why do you keep a gun —” my dad’s voice became distorted due to shock.

I hated this. I hated them. I hated what they made me do.

I was so frustrated and pained.

“Have you for once asked me how I felt? What I wanted to do?” I asked as hot tears ran down my face

“All you did was criticize me–”

“Put the damn gun down, Harley” my mom yelled

I wasn’t going to. I was going to be the villain of my life story. An inventor who obsessed about a stone and killed his parents because they said things he didn’t want to hear.

“No” I inhaled  “I want to end these criticisms, I want to end the emotional pain I’m going through right now”

“So you’re just going to shoot us for the hell of it?” My dad barked.

So incorrigible!

“It seems you’re yet to know what you did to me. What you’ve been doing to me” I ground my teeth

“I thought I gave birth to a son, I didn’t know I gave birth to a thug.” My mom began ranting  “If I had known about the disgrace you’d turn out to be, then I would have killed you from birth. I wouldn’t have—”

I pulled the trigger, cutting off her disdainful speech. I watched as she froze, blood gushing from her chest. Her eyes widened for a second then she shut them.

I had just killed my mom!

“Harley!” My dad bellowed

“You–you shouldn’t have said that. If you hadn’t, then I wouldn’t have to –” I babbled

“All we did was love you, Harley…” My dad said, trembling. He shook my mum severally as he sobbed.

For a moment, I was going to have a change of heart. I just killed someone, you know, I was bound to feel remorseful.

But I didn’t. I wasn’t going to let my dad’s words sway me.

I felt vindictive.

“You probably should join your wife” I said and released another bullet without a second thought.

After my dad shut his eyes, I dropped the gun and took deep breaths. I refused myself to feel any emotions.

I called the boys I hired and they came after some time.

“Take their bodies and drop them at their house. I’ll send you the address. Make their deaths look like a burglary turned murder” I ordered them

“Yes boss” they chorused

I had killed my parents. The people I was going to kill were the people who had my stone.
