Chapter 36
Chapter 36
The members of the Great Council were slowly leaving the room. Sariel stood up and silently observed
them leave. He was clenching his fists, his face revealing a faint smile, proof of his satisfaction. I kept
sitting in the uncomfortable, massive chair while my heart thundered. I felt like I had just dodged a
bullet. My hands were still shaking, even though I kept telling myself that it was all over.
Soon, Sariel, Mr. Gotha, and I were the only ones in the courtroom. I locked my eyes on Sariel until he
finally looked at me. He smirked and walked over to my seat.
"You used me." I glared at him while getting up.
"I didn't use you. Our reasons might have been different, but the goal was the same." He shrugged.
"Do you have any idea how terrified I was? You should have at least told me something about your
plan… And who is that Judge Calvet?!" I burst out.
"Dominique Calvet is my sister," he stated calmly.
"So you could have told me that she would fake that test! I was freaking out- "
"I didn't fake it." Dominique chuckled while entering the courtroom through the side door.
She changed her clothes; she was now wearing a sexy, fitted burgundy dress with a deep neckline.
She glided in her Louboutins straight towards me and curiously looked me up and down.
"I used my full strength to get into your mind, but it just didn't work." Her cold honesty brought chills
down my spine.
"B-because I'm human?" I asked nervously.
"Of course not!" She laughed. "It should have made your head explode, but I already figured that you
were somehow protected after hearing Sariel declare his "I don't care" statement." She winked at her
brother.
I became speechless. There was no doubt that they were family. She showed the same attitude I had
seen from her brother. She walked closer to say hello to Mr. Gotha while Sariel leaned against the
table, crossing his hands on his chest.
"We should have gone home. We need to celebrate this." He grinned at his sister and me.
It seemed like a heavy weight was being lifted off of his shoulders. Despite the fact that I had yet to
calm down after what had happened, I could imagine myself relieved as well. I did all I could to avenge
Carla and the others. I hoped that those responsible for their deaths would suffer the same kind of
agonizing pain right before dying.
"Let's get going already. I have Grand Cru's Pinot Noir in my car, the whole box of it." Dominique
giggled; she clearly was in the mood to celebrate.
"I guess you came prepared. Were you that convinced that we would win?" Sariel smirked at her.
"I trust my younger brother. I knew you wouldn't let me down. You even knew that Ms. Leber saw that
disgusting wolf at the banquet," she claimed proudly.
"I didn't." He smirked.
"What?!" Dominique and I called out simultaneously.
"I took a gamble and it worked." He put a cunning smile on his face.
"And what would happen if I didn't see him there?!" I asked, unable to understand his carefree attitude.
"Well, Leo would have tortured the wolf a little more, and he would have confessed. It would work either
way," he tossed nonchalantly, then started walking towards the door.
Mr. Gotha, Dominique and I followed him. Mr. Gotha sped up to match his pace with Sariel's, while I
stayed with Dominique two steps behind.
"You are quite irresistible, you know? I could munch you…" Dominique murmured while leaning over to
sniff my neck.
I stepped away from her, smiling awkwardly.
"Relax, I'm not going to bite you. I only wanted to say that you smell awfully good." She snorted, "I'm
not going to challenge the level of my brother's possessiveness. I don't have a death wish."
She made it sound like I really meant something to her brother, but I would bet it was merely about my
work that still needed to be finished. I sighed, shaking off all sorts of confusing thoughts about Sariel.
We walked out, and Dominique headed straight to the bloody-red Porsche parked at the side of the
council's headquarters. I stopped for a second and observed her, mesmerized by her overwhelming
confidence. She certainly looked majestic in every single movement.
"Lilith, you are coming with us." Sariel grabbed my arm and pulled me towards his black limousine.
I walked obediently towards his car while continuously processing what had happened at the court
session. My mind was so occupied by thoughts that I hardly noticed Mr. Gotha opening the door for me.
A few seconds later, the driver started the engine and we started heading back to the castle.
I stared at Sariel's face. I was positive that he was the one who made me enter my deepest hidden
memories of the night of the auction. Certainly, he couldn't unnoticed my eyes on him.
"Do you want to ask me a question, or are you going to keep staring at me?" he asked, wearing a sly
smirk on his face.
His words immediately made me flustered, but I figured that it might be the right time to voice my
concerns.
"When you told me to recall what had happened before the action… was it some kind of your super
abilities?" I inquired hesitantly.
He chuckled, "Yes and no. You did it yourself, but there was a little something from me that made it
possible."
"What little something?" I wish I knew what he was talking about.
"You don't need to know." He smirked.
I should have known he wouldn't tell me what I wanted.
I muttered, "I just thought that you hypnotized me…"
"What do you think I am, some kind of Dracula?" He burst out laughing.
"Well… how can I know what you can and cannot do? You are the first vampire I've met." I pouted.
"Ok, I admit it, I gave your mind a little push, but only because I sort of had access to it," he tossed.
I stared at him with a question mark painted all over my face. The more he said, the more confused I
was.
"Does it mean you can read my mind?!" I panicked at the very thought that he might have known the
lustful images of him my head produced.
He chuckled, seeing how flustered I had become, "No, I can't read your mind… but when it comes to
you, I don't have to." He leaned over my ear and whispered, "You are far too easy to read."
A wave of shivering ran through my entire body. It was time to state it clearly that he couldn't be
unaware that I found him extremely attractive and irresistible. Even if I could keep my poker face, the
rest of my body would prove otherwise. Sitting next to him on the back seat of his car made me
additionally sensitive to everything he was doing. The only thing I could do was to try changing the
subject.
"Do you have an ability like your sister has?" I asked.
"No, my sister is special. She is like a walking-talking lie detector. My powers lie elsewhere." He smiled
teasingly, slowly looking me up and down.
I swallowed. One lewd, one-track mind instantly imagined his sex abilities. I had already tasted his
touch on my skin a few times, and that was enough for my hormones to declare him a god.
Unknowingly, my eyes roamed down to his long fingers… Seriously, I wished I could slap myself. The
more time I spent with him, the more I wanted him to tear off my clothes and make me his in every
possible way.
I spent the rest of the way to the castle glued to the window, avoiding Sariel's gaze at all costs. When
the car stopped, I stormed out, relieved that I could breathe again. Of course, the second I felt more
comfortable, Sariel grabbed my wrist, pulling me closer to him.
"I'll give you twenty minutes to freshen up. Dress yourself and come to the dining room," he
commanded, the tone of his voice claiming to stand no disobedience.
"Yes," I replied before realizing any sound had come out of my mouth.
He let go of my wrist and walked towards the castle. I followed him, having a feeling that it would be an
evening I would remember for a very long time…
